Carrick for all his faults has been the best midfielder united has this year, the overall weakness of the players around him in some of the more physical games has left him being over run at times, particularly against City in the FA cup and against Barcelona, but thats not his fault.
Modric would have done no better and cost us 30 odd million for the privilege.

i disagree. modric would have done better and has carrick really been your best midfield player? quite a statement considering.

bottom line is, i don't want modric to go and you don't want him. i just hope ferguson feels the same.

What do you guys think of the rumours that Nani might leave as well (here)? To me he shows a fair bit of promise and the sort of player we should be holding on to, not selling.

Also a bit gutting that Barca are going to snap up Rossi, I was hoping he'd eventually end up back at United.

I couldn't really look past this -

Sir Alex Ferguson plans Manchester United overhaul to catch Barcelona

Jack Rodwell and Ashley Young among transfer targets

:(

Really primarily need a Keanesque type player, such as Essien etc.

Rodwell being touted as the most likely to fill that spot - but can he really do the job?

You mean the Modric who completely vanished in both games against Real Madrid?
THAT Modric?

Yeah because when it really mattered he turned up didnt he?
Not.

The same Modric who in three seasons against United has failed to have any impact what so ever against the Midfielders he is supposed to be so much better than?

His 12 goals in 118 apps in a free scoring Spurs side isnt exactly inspiring either.

Spurs can keep him, we already have a player who can keep the side ticking over just fine, what united need is power, speed and a direct goal threat either in direct assists or actual goal return in the middle of the park.
He is almost entirely the opposite of what United need, being neither strong, good in the tackle, or a player that turns up in the big matches, or a player with a good goal return, or a player that sets up any goals.

I agree with all of this.

The question is, would Rodwell really have made a difference against that Barca side? If not, we should be looking elsewhere.

The only way you can say that is by buying the barca players ;)

As an Everton fan I'm quite happy if teams keep giving us 15-20 million for our above average players. He's a decent player, still young but I still don't know whether he's an AMF, CMF, DMF or CB. He needs more time to grow into a role, but for stupid money I'm happy to let him go.

I say this every year but quite why Manu never bought Cahill to replace an ageing Scholes puzzles me. He's better than him for atleast the last 3 or 4 years. More energy to get up and down the field and a battler. Can fill in just about anywhere and chips in with goals.

Arteta too should have gone as well but he's had a poor season this year through one thing or another.

Can a seperate Manchester United sub-forum be created?

For whatever reason OCUK attracts a lot of people living in Manchester to these forums.

In other news I am pleased Norwich have signed Vaughan. Good young talent with a point to prove.

I think what he means is that Man Utd are very high profile, have a lot of fans. As such they generate more interest and can warrant their own threads because there are often more people posting about them and their opinion on them. You can search for other man Utd threads to see that they often go on for longer than many other threads.

Plus UTD are expected to sign a few new players making speculation, hype and news more plentiful this summer...

I don't dislike Manchester United... it just seems that other chat gets lost and all people want to talk about is Man Utd.

It would be nice to have a United Sub-sub forum as then the rest of us can see the wood from the trees.

Probably because they have just won their 19th title and got to the Champions League final. They are the talk of the season so far and have stated they want to invest in the summer...hence why there is so much discussion. Just swap United for any other team and the same conversations would have happened.
