I never suggested that Berba should leave, nor did I suggest that Rooney Nani and Ronaldo destroyed teams. All I said was that from the perspective of a watching fan he APPEARS to be lacking in effort compared to his peers.
As I said, he is without doubt one of the best, if not the best first touch player in the league right now. He can pick a pass and play others in and occasionally he will pull something out of the trick bag to beat a defender when all looked lost and something comes out of it.
It's all about perception. Most people will watch the game and see Rooney running around trying to win back possession while Berbatov doesn't. That makes him APPEAR to care less. It's the very reason that Tevez endeared himself to the fans. He also has no pace but he APPEARED to give it everything while Berbatov doesn't APPEAR to.
Berbatov does and has often slow a breakaway down, it's not because he has little pace, he just likes to play others in and keep the ball. That's something that rarely happened before. I'm not saying either is better, ultimately keeping the ball is better than squandering a chance after you've pegged it 80 yards only to have to run back. But I've watched him do it too many times for anyone to claim that he doesn't give teams a chance to get more players back behind the ball more often than other players might. Again, I'm not saying its wrong. He keeps makes sure we keep possession instead of running wildly and hitting row Z.
Ultimately its all down to Ferguson. While the majority of the fans wanted Tevez to stay because he APPEARED to care more, Fergy let him go (ultimately I think the right decision despite his contributions to the team). This time I think less people will be annoyed if Berba goes. Right or wrong I just think its what the fans as a whole will think.
Bear in mind that Berbatov was at 19 goals and top of the charts on Feb 14th when the press reported him as saying
My ambition is always high, so I will try and scored another 20 goals until the end of the season,
. From then until the end of the season he was rarely picked ahead of Hernandez and so rarely scored. Fergy has shown no compunction in the past with dropping a player after having a cracking game so why not play Berbatov more often towards the end of the season? There has to be a reason. He must have seen something in Little Pea either in the games or in training which said to Fergy "he has to play instead of my record signing".
As I've said before, he is an incredible player with brilliant feet and technical ability. But he hasn't (and never has) played the way that "the fans" expected IE, lots of running about. I'm not saying they are right, and I'm not saying that he should. Quite why anyone expected him to play in that way baffles me, anyone could see his style appeared more lethargic when he was at Spurs. But that is what divides United fans on the subject of Berbatov. You couldn't find anyone saying he isn't a genius on the ball which should in itself endear him to United fans. Sadly for him it hasn't.
