****ing hate this idea.

Players that don't run about lots = lazy
Players that do run about lots = putting a good shift in.

I don't often see Xavi sprinting everywhere.

Yet Xavi apparently ran more than anyone else on Saturday night, which is damn impressive. He covers so much ground to make himself available for the ball.

I never suggested that Berba should leave, nor did I suggest that Rooney Nani and Ronaldo destroyed teams. All I said was that from the perspective of a watching fan he APPEARS to be lacking in effort compared to his peers.

As I said, he is without doubt one of the best, if not the best first touch player in the league right now. He can pick a pass and play others in and occasionally he will pull something out of the trick bag to beat a defender when all looked lost and something comes out of it.

It's all about perception. Most people will watch the game and see Rooney running around trying to win back possession while Berbatov doesn't. That makes him APPEAR to care less. It's the very reason that Tevez endeared himself to the fans. He also has no pace but he APPEARED to give it everything while Berbatov doesn't APPEAR to.

Berbatov does and has often slow a breakaway down, it's not because he has little pace, he just likes to play others in and keep the ball. That's something that rarely happened before. I'm not saying either is better, ultimately keeping the ball is better than squandering a chance after you've pegged it 80 yards only to have to run back. But I've watched him do it too many times for anyone to claim that he doesn't give teams a chance to get more players back behind the ball more often than other players might. Again, I'm not saying its wrong. He keeps makes sure we keep possession instead of running wildly and hitting row Z.

Ultimately its all down to Ferguson. While the majority of the fans wanted Tevez to stay because he APPEARED to care more, Fergy let him go (ultimately I think the right decision despite his contributions to the team). This time I think less people will be annoyed if Berba goes. Right or wrong I just think its what the fans as a whole will think.

Bear in mind that Berbatov was at 19 goals and top of the charts on Feb 14th when the press reported him as saying
My ambition is always high, so I will try and scored another 20 goals until the end of the season,
. From then until the end of the season he was rarely picked ahead of Hernandez and so rarely scored. Fergy has shown no compunction in the past with dropping a player after having a cracking game so why not play Berbatov more often towards the end of the season? There has to be a reason. He must have seen something in Little Pea either in the games or in training which said to Fergy "he has to play instead of my record signing".

As I've said before, he is an incredible player with brilliant feet and technical ability. But he hasn't (and never has) played the way that "the fans" expected IE, lots of running about. I'm not saying they are right, and I'm not saying that he should. Quite why anyone expected him to play in that way baffles me, anyone could see his style appeared more lethargic when he was at Spurs. But that is what divides United fans on the subject of Berbatov. You couldn't find anyone saying he isn't a genius on the ball which should in itself endear him to United fans. Sadly for him it hasn't.

Seems Fulham had a bid of about £10.5m rejected for Daniel Osvaldo. Fulham definitely need a proper 'goal scorer', but not sure who else there is that is likely to join us, especially with our wage structure etc!

Gudjohnsen has left Stoke now too, apparently set to join us on a free transfer soon.

Had £500k rejected for Jordan Slew and are only prepared to go as high as £1m, according to some places. Don't know anything about him though :p

Also apparently in the chase for DJ Campbell for £1.25m too. Wouldn't be a bad signing for that price, he's a local lad too iirc.

Berbatov is not a great player.

I just simply cant be arsed repeating the same stuff over and over again, if he is great player his contract extension would have been wrapped up by now.
United do not let players they want to keep get this far down the line without kicking up a fuss about getting them signed back up again.
Our best football has been played with out him in the side, Fergie doesnt trust in must win games at all unless his hand is forced.

So you either agree with Fergie (who can apparently do no wrong)
Or you dont (in which case you are a raving loony who only wants United to fail, a so called fan who never watches the game, who are you to argue with the best british manager of all time etc etc etc).

pls stop posting

Fergie gets rid of people that he doesnt like, hes is still a great player

I'd argue that he didn't "run" there, he simply doesn't stop moving does he? Not many of the Barca players are "still" for very long.

It's why there so effect at controlling games, they're always moving and passing they so hard to mark as a result, the midfield don't "run" much, they just move and press space very well.

You just have a massive chip on your shoulder about Berbatov, even if he scored 50 goals in the League you would still find something to complain about so arguing with you is pointless.

I really, really cant be bothered to drag though why he isnt great.

We will see what Fergie thinks in the summer.

I know why you think he isn't great, but you also ignore all the positives.

As cheets said, Fergie doesn't really get rid of players based on how 'great' they are.

FA Cup semi final - just one of the many examples of why Berbatov ISNT a great player (on his day he can be incredible, without doubt - its just unfortunately that those days come around all too rarely for a team wanting to win Leagues and Finals every season)

Fergie has been known to be wrong on occasion, but I dont think anyone can really argue that he always tries to make the team the best he possibly can within the given circumstances

lol, he is no Walcott but to say he has no pace is ridiculous.

As for Berbatov, probably one of the best if not the best 'technical' striker that has been in the prem since Bergkamp. Can't see him going back to Spurs unless it is part of a Modric deal for utd. I can see him going abroad. Maybe Spain would appreciate his football more, somewhere like Athletico or Villareal maybe who look like they might need a new striker if Aguero and Rossi leave.

which one are you then? i'll just remind you of your ''we don't want modric'' comment a few pages back (when ferguson obviously does). and if you don't think berbatov is a great player, i'd like to know who you think is?

So Berba has one very good season for UTD and he is now amazing for you? First season and abit half of UTD fans ruled him out on here.

Whilst I dont rate Berba much either at all he does have certain good qualities i.e his technical ability, But he isnt the player who if out for few games and then comes back in does much he needs to be in constantly or he just fails even worse.

If he didnt have this very good season i doubt most UTD fans would care if he goes.

this very good season? you mean the one where he was often on the bench yet still became your top scorer? you may also recall that man utd is not the only premiership team he has played for so he's hardly unproved, i mean, manutd decided to stump up £20m+ more than spurs paid for him after only 2 seasons.

To backup what i said a while back in this thread:

Pretty much every (reliable) source i know both personally IRL, and those on RAWK who usually get stuff correct are saying we have agreed a fee for Joey Barton, personal terms yet to be agreed.

Could get interesting this..
