Seeing as it's revealed that House Lannister alone has 60,000 men, the Dothraki horde of 40,000 seems pretty weak? :S

The Dorthraki horde are horse archers or something, not to mention with the very possible upcoming civil war in the seven kingdoms and by the time the Dorthraki attack all the armies in the seven kingdoms could be much smaller.

House Lannister has 60,000 men, practicing all the time, fully paid up fighty people? or does it have lots of "honour guards" and the like, as I believe was explained not too long ago, numerical superiority, does not equate an easy win, especially against a much better trained foe. Not to mention, Each house has their own army, there is not one standing army, this would prove fatal in a confrontation, as the stark army wont listen to lannister commanders etc. The Dothraki Horde, all follow one leader, fanatically, and that, is dangerous, put them on horseback, and you make them faster, and more dangerous.

Well since the world of GOT is based on a medevial British system, those "60,000" men would include many common folk in freeholds and lands around Casterly Rock (Lannister HQ). I think.

Of 60k soldiers, not all of which are Lannister it also their vassals and subsidiaries too, you are looking at around 10k if that of professional soldiers and knights. The rest are levies called from the fields, shops or whatever given a spear and a tabard and told to go die.

The Dothraki are probably based on the Mongols, where they are all mounted and use unconventional tactics, and don't engage the enemy like more traditional armies.

The Mongols would attack one wing and then retreat, then turn and attack again when the enemy were out of formation etc. Plus they have the mobility to rape and pillage and avoid any large army until it was to their advantage. Picking off the supply trains when on the move.

The Dothraki/Mongols would also be trained warriors/archers from birth making them much better than the militia in Lannisters army (for example)

Hasn't this already been explained in the TV series? The Dothraki all fight as cavalry with curved swords, which is fine for making mince meat out of infantry but they won't be able to pierce the armour of the knights on horseback. But - there aren't enough knights to match the Dothraki force. The main disadvantage for the Dothraki is that they have no siege warfare capability so the Seven Kingdoms' forces would be perfectly safe in their castles. Ser Jorah Mormount said something along the lines that King Robert might be stupid enough to meet the Dothraki on an open field, but the people advising him are cleverer than that, implying that the Dothraki are a threat to the Seven Kingdoms albeit a manageable one.

To be fair to King Robert though, and the reason he was so keen to kill Daenyrys to remove the Dothraki threat, how long would the Seven Kingdoms remain intact while the people in towns and villages were being killed, enslaved and raped by the Dothraki while the Lords and Ladies remained safe in their castles?

Littlefinger seems to be enjoying himself too much...

The thing is, how on earth does Littlefinger think he can get out of that situation? He's clearly not going to kill Ned Stark, so what is he going to gain? His house guard along with the city guard would easily overpower the Lannisters forces currently, and Ned would go and have a go in the throne for a bit?

He's playing the long game his intention isn't to fight his enemies but to "**** them" my theory is he's putting the lannisters into power so they're distracted from his stealthy shennanigans!

But what if Ned's little lady is all windowed and frightened and alone in the world? Won't she rely on her little friend from her childhood? ;)

the same thing that Bronn did when he chose to be Tyrion's champion in his trial by combat.

The favour and fortune that the lannisters can offer. Tywin has already said that he hopes for his family to build a legacy that will last a 1000 years.

If little finger can help them achieve that by keeping ned stark and his meddling ways away from the court, he will no doubt be rewarded.

But what if Ned's little lady is all windowed and frightened and alone in the world? Won't she rely on her little friend from her childhood? ;)

especially if the truth of what just happened in the court were to be kept secret. After all, if the truth was known, people would be asking why Ned Stark wanted to keep Joffrey off the throne. The lannisters will no doubt be seeking to pretend none of the last event of the episode ever happened. That king robert died of an unfortunate accident, and his first son and rightful heir quickly succeeded the throne and was crowned king. In order to keep the north in check, and crucially their bannermen, he will wed Sansa Stark and made her his queen.

Is there only 3 episodes left now?

yup 3 more episodes to go. Then onto the second series which covers the second book in the series. There are 5 books currently, with 7 planned. The 6th is due out soon.

Watched Mondays episode yesterday evening thanks to SkyPlus. Really enjoying the show at the moment. I haven't read the books and can't decide if I should go out and buy them.

One minor gripe I have with the show is that everything seems to be moving at a very quick pace, as though things are being hurried along. I don't know if things are the same in the book, does anyone else think so?

It has pretty much. They are well regarded warriors who pose a serious threat to the seven kingdoms. BUt its not simply a case of the Dothraki have 40,000 men and the Armys of the Seven Kingdoms have 60,000 or whatever. Will be interesting to see how this pans out. I've read the first book so know whats going to happen in this series, but refrained from reading too far ahead to see if the dothraki arrive and what happens when they do.

things do move very fast. I've kept all my episodes on my Sky + box and gone back and watched them again a second time. You notice stuff you missed the first round, recognize characters you didn't think you knew etc..

Watch them again and you'll get a better understanding. Side effect of having to cram so much of the book into 8/9 hours.

Watching this I have no idea what is coming next. I was surprised to see such a pivotal person as the King bumped off so early which has left me with the feeling that anyone could be bumped off at any point.

Sean Bean is the lead in this series. In a written for TV show they wouldn't dream of bumping him off. In this, I don't know if he will survive his current predicament.
