The latest from our pursuit of Henderson + others from the Times:

They're reporting that N'gog is likely to be used as a makeweight as part of the deal with Sunderland wanting £13m + N'gog, with Liverpool offering £11m + N'gog. One way or another, it looks like that deal's going to go ahead. They're also reporting that once the Henderson deal is tied up, we'll look to do deals for Adam, Downing and Wickham.

With Henderson's versatility, I'd have thought we wouldn't then need to sign another CM in Adam; clearly Dalglish rates him very highly though. With Suarez and Carroll, Wickham makes perfect sense; it's difficult to have 3 high profile strikers so signing the best youngster available to us is the next best thing. And Downing; as I've said before, there's certainly better wingers than him but imo, he's the exact type of wide player we need. We don't need another wide player that looks to cut inside and link with the midfielders - we've got plenty of those already - we need somebody that's going to give us width and will provide the service for Carroll.

Henderson + Adam would be quite interesting signings to me, and the reason I say that is Gerrard.

You see, by the end of this season , we were performing so well with no Gerrard that for the first time in a long while I was sitting and thinking where does Gerrard fit back into this team, and I had to say that I couldn't really see him in it at the time. With Henderson and particularly Adam , I would even more be thinking to myself where does Gerrard fit in. Are we perhaps witnessing the change of Gerrard from automatic name on the team sheet to more of a squad player I wonder?

Udinese now denying all knowledge of any deal with Barca for Sanchez, cant say I'm surprised as this time last year they were definitely signing Mata and that turned out to be completely unfounded as well

That and we all know who Barca will spend all their money on this summer ;)

I think I mentioned earlier in the thread that I can see Henderson being the natural successor to Gerrard but Gerrard's still going to be the first name on the team sheet for another couple of years.

We certainly played better at the back end of last season while Gerrard was injured but I suspect the change of manager was the main reason for that ;)

Regarding Henderson's position next season (if we sign him); there's some talk that he's being lined up to play on the right and similarly when Meireles played there, it's made me think back to Dalglish's Barnes/Beardo/Aldridge side. You're (a lot) older than me so should remember, but iinm we used to play with Ray Houghton tucked in on the right hand side and then Barnes providing the width on the left. I can see Meireles/Henderson competing for that Houghton role.

That would make the Adam move more understandable too: Gerrard, Lucas, Adam & Spearing as your 4 CM's and then Meireles and Henderson as your right hand side players, with Kuyt being used more as a striker.

edit: as I finished typing, SSN are reporting that we've agreed a deal with Sunderland and Henderson will have his medical tomorrow. No mention of a fee or whether N'gog is included in the deal and being SSN, it could easily be wrong anyway.

Liverpool have agreed terms with Sunderland for England international Jordan Henderson. (SSN)

I haven't seen that much of him but I feel 'natural successor to Gerrard' is a bit strong!

You say the transfer window threads are full of crap, but then every now and then someone will go and ***** thirty-five million pounds on an average striker and it makes the whole thing worthwhile.

Natural successor in terms of the style of play/position. Huge ask for him to match the ability.

More from Sky on the deal: Deal is 'valued' at £20m, including N'gog which is what the Times reported although the clubs were still haggling over N'gog's value (£7-9m). If we get him even for £13m + N'gog, it wouldn't be a bad deal for us imo.

I'm happy with that deal, the ngog aspect means we've got Henderson for a price which I am happier with than if it had been pure cash.

So, anyone expect to see Holloway on SSN soon saying "if that deeeer Henderson boy is worth all tat dosh, then my Charlie is worth at least duuuble tat deeeer value!"

"We are not selling Luka, we are not selling Gareth and we are not selling Sandro."

Good stuff. :)

When did Sandro become in demand anyway? On the back of a few good performances (which possibly stand out because the better players, ie: Most your team) hadn't been performing for a while?

Whilst I fully expect both Modric and Bale to still be at Spurs next season you do have to take what Arry said with a large pinch of salt because in the same interview he said he was happy with Crouch, Defoe & Pavlyuchenko and that Robbie Keane could come back to Spurs next season and be the answer to their striker problems :p

As believable as him saying he was staying overnight at the training ground because you had training the next day, and you definitely weren't bidding for anybody, on the last day of the January window ;)
