Right folks!

I'm not "into" weight loss or fitness on the same level you guys are, so please bare that in mind.

I'm 6"6 and built like a tank, but its more podge then anything else. I want to lose weight, but I'm not 100% sure of the best way.

(Also, before you ask, no pictures of me semi nude or details of how much I weigh as I'm very self conscious)

I've slashed my calorie intake massively, I'm eating about 600-800 a day now, I'm doing about 2 hours of exercise a day as well, Well I have one day off a week where I don't exercise and have a take away.

Am I doing this right? I've basically started having toast (brown bread or white home made) / fruit on a morning. A sandwhich for lunch (normally from Tesco) and then either a sandwhich or something fairly light in the evening, so say, beans on toast or chicken boob and veg / rice. I'm a dab hand in the kitchen so food doesn't get boring or anything like that.

I've been running and using my exercise bike for about 30 mins a day and then will do press ups (I can still do quite a few quite easily) and press ups, not many, normally until I can't do anymore, and I've started using one of these wobbling machines (my mum / sister use them so they purchased one)

Am I going about this the right way? I don't want to look like FF as I don't have the motivation :p but I do have the motivation to lose my podge.

Christ, I apologize for the novel.

I actually went to the doctors a while back, and she said give my height and the fact I'm clearly a very "big" guy (her words) my weight "wasn't too bad", but I should get a bit fitter and lose a bit.

I also play football once or twice a week, which ruins me haha

No it's not the right way, not convetional anyway.
Given your exercise level having such a low kcal diet is bad for you unless prescribed and managed by doctors / health experts.

Don't be shy about your weight, there's a few hefty blokes in here. I'm 130kg / 21st and under 6 foot. ^TANK^ was a tank. Other people are as heavy if not heavier than me :)

There is also some great success stories of weight loss both here and in GD.

I'm no expert but even for a much smaller person that is a very very low amount of calories to be eating per day. Your meals also seem to be centered around basic carbohydrates, namely all that bread.

As I said I'm no expert and maybe the other fellas here will be able to confirm whether I'm correct, but I'd expect you to lose a lot of muscle mass and have very low energy levels.

I'd eat more, cut out the simple carbs (bread) and start including a lot more protein & veg. On top of this I would be hitting the gym with a proper resistance routine, as that will help your weight loss while maintaining your muscle mass so you don't waste away!

You're going about it in a way that will get you results, but you will not be able to keep it up for long.
I'm going to base this advice on the assumption that you're a similar build to my house mate who's your height and around 23st, the amount of kcals his body would use just lying doing nothing at all would be just under 3000kcals with 3.5k needed to maintain that weight while doing no real exercise.
So say you need 3500kcals just to maintain your weight running with such a severe deficit will cause your body to enter starvation mode where it will try and hang onto fat, also the rebound you will get if your will power slips which it eventually will would be large.
Ideally you would want to aim for around 2500kcals a day this will allow slow steady and sustainable loss of fat, also try and cut out bread based foods and replace them with something like oats, brown rice, brown pasta, cous cous something like that and pair it up with some lean protein and plenty of veg and water.
In fact thinking bout it with the amount of exercise you are doing you could probably quite happily loose 2-3lbs a week even taking in 3000kcals a day which is a good bit of food.

To give you some idea of my weight loss I can loose fat on approx 2000kcals a day mainly from protein and fats with plenty of veg along with 3 weights sessions a week and I'm 5'7 and just over 90kg so a fair bit smaller than you.

I'm about 130-35kg at 6"6 and I've a very broad / big build anyway, I think that's the easiest way to put it :)

I'll try and cut bread out, I've given up all snack foods but I'll try and raise my calorie intake to about 2000 then?

I'll try and do more exercise, I'll try and cycle / run more but I've no intention of hitting a gym as I'm far to self conscious to even consider it. I've friends that go, but I'd rather just try and eat healthy, so more rice and veg and less sammiches.

Cheers for the information guys, I kind of just guessed moving more and eating less would work.

In a way it will, but you can't go hell for leather as it will be counter productive and you won't be able to keep it up for long without feeling really ****.

Don't concentrate too much on weight, don't weigh yourself everyday etc.

Set yourself some sensible short and long term goals and start achieving them.

Lastly, keep this thread updated with your progress, even if it's no progress as we can be quite helpful with motivation :D

Definitely bring it up like I said at your size with the length of exercise you're doing each day you would probably still lose weight taking in 3000kcals so don't be too harsh on yourself at least not in the beginning as it makes it very easy to get demoralised.

I'll try and do more exercise and raise it up to 2000kg! At least I can treat myself to fish and chips tonight :)

Cheers guys, was kind of worried about the type of replies I'd get but thanks for being helpful and constructive :)

I'll attempt to keep this up to date as well :)

You're eating a dangerously low amount of calories considering your energy expenditure.

Height and weight and a bodyfat reading will allow for a BMR caluculation and a more accurate calorie allowance.

Edit: read above. Best of luck.

Trust me take a pic of yourself, its the single greatest motivational item going, worked for me, now I look at my body to what it was and think never again and it makes me put in 110%.

Dont be shy about going to the gym, I went and had a belly and just ignore the muscle boys, you are there for the same reason as them if not more.

Get outside now and get into a routine, its hard at first but summer is here and once winter hits thats the big test at keep the weight off and being active, when its dark cold and wet at 5pm, its easier to sack the gym off or the run.

Food wise just eat what people have said, you are eating way to little I am eating way more than you and losing weight, lager is the biggest problem with me.

You will not function on crazy low calories, you need to ADJUST your lifstyle to loose and most importantly KEEP off the pounds.

Cut out junk, fit into your lifestyle exercise and CLEAN HEATHY food.

People who crash diet and panic loose weight will be doing the same thing next year and the year after.

Loosing weight and keeping it off is a lifestyle mate. Change your habits, good rest and decent quality food will see the change.

Good luck and well done for making the first steps :)

Also brother from another mother, if I can do it, you can!

:D

Cheers Cheets might drop you an email about a routine actually.

I'm not going to the gym, but I may start jogging for longer and having a regular route I've kind of just been running where I think looks nice :p

Actually, I live only a couple of minutes (if that) away from the Great Central Way, that runs through Leicester and I like walking down there, so yeah, might start running down there for X and then come back a slightly different way.

Cheets will have you cycling for everything.

If you want to get better at running there is a great sticky on it at top of thread :)

I'll have a read, I'm dead so I doubt I'll do much tonight. I'll go for a jog tomorrow though.

I have pretty big legs as it is because of football / biking when I was younger.

Ok

It took me a while to get back into running, I would run a mile then back home, too me a few week to do it without stopping, now its a piece of ****, not a massive fan of it but its the cheapest option if you own a pair of comfortable trainers.

Cheets will have you cycling for everything.

I'm just far too self conscious to go to a gym :(

I've got friends that go, so when I get fitter and shed a bit I might consider it.
