I mean for example what was the point of the Nasri 9:00pm thing?! At least an official source would check as to whether there'd be an announcement. Can you imagine Sky Sports' cameras rolling out to a closed door and then turning away because it was a hoax?

There was an announcement:confused:

£5million for Gael Clichy seems a little cheeky. I don't understand why we've gone so low with this bid. Last year of contract? Has he stated he wants to leave??

Why aren't these contracts sorted out 2 seasons before they end? That way we wouldn't have this whole situation of having to sell at rock bottom prices or risk losing them for nothing. :/

This club has learned nothing at all, look at when Flamini went for nothing. It's becoming a bit of a joke now.

I wonder if any newspaper would pay me to go sit outside Spurs training ground all day to wait and see if any "new" players turned up. I only live 5 minutes away so that'd be quite a convenient job for me.

Yep, he'll even send some pizza outside to them too.

and how many pages in this thread have NO relevance to transfers at all :D

(I know many people do it - just evidence of pot calling kettle black, ie just as annoying as a post thats based on bs)

To be fair though - its a bit of a catch 22

Berbatov hasnt really been a resounding hit for Utd, is now basically in his final year of his contract . Lets say we would get £10m for him - you certainly couldnt sign a player as good as him for the same money, but potentially one with more promise.......do you keep what you have or do you roll the dice (before the beginning of last season, I cant see Utd even considering extending his contract he was so woeful - at least at this point its more debatable even though he probably should have scored 5 - 10 more goals at least in different games).

I know Nasri was fantastic for 6 months or so of this season, but before that....was his sale worth as much as his contract (ie his performances werent that great really).

Also points to the way the club/ manager / board are thinking - leave x player til his final year to try and tempt other clubs to take a gamble for a reasonable price , until Dec of last season (after showing a few months of good quality) no one would touch him on a 3 or 4 year contract , yet Arsenal could have potentially lost out if that length of quality performances hadnt come about......with or without Cesc in the side.

I think even Utd are leaving most contracts now to 12 / 18 months from the end - even the big name players (all these "expected" wage hikes probably put the clubs off renewing too soon, with wages accounting for.....70% or thereabouts of cashflow in the EPL, Im pretty sure it was something like that last season)

Shut up Frank. That's funny!

And there's a difference between going off topic and posting bs.

He's in the last year of his contract. I'd be surprised if we got him that cheaply but best to start low and work your way up.

I wouldn't rule out the possibility of this being a ploy to force Newcastle's hand regarding Enrique. A lot of people seemed very certain that Enrique was our main target for the LB position and there's been a few reports stating that Newcastle are demanding big money. Maybe by bidding for Clichy Newcastle will lower their demands or risk losing him on a free next season (Enrique too only has 1 year of his contract left).

Seems a lot for a) a player of his ability and age b) a player in the last season of his contract.

IF Clichy is going to move to Liverpool, does he feel that a move there will be beneficial to his career and does he feel Liverpool have a better chance of winning things then at Arsenal?

How much did Liverpool bid for Enrique?

There was an announcement:confused:

The announcement was supposedly to be made following France's game with Poland, a game that Nasri was left out off completely

Mate the announcement was BS, as was the story that there was going to be an announcement in the first place

I'd imagine the fact that we paid upto £35m on Carroll may have played a part in Newcastle demanding silly money. I'm not sure we've made a formal offer - some places reported we made an opening offer of ~£4m but not sure how true that is.

And do I really need to answer the questions about why Clichy would join Liverpool? We're the biggest club in the world, ask Joe Cole!

:p

To be honest, the opening offer is probably just a bit *too* low, but 15 million is a stupid price.

I'd say, that about half way would be about "fair" for him, maybe 6/7 million at a push.

I full understand Newcastle wanting more, but asking for 15 million is daft, especially if the player would favor the move.
