We've managed to find a taker (Besiktas) for Bebe!! Only on loan but it's a start although I suspect after 5 minutes on the training field they wont be planning on raising the funds to sign him

I was hoping he would go out on loan to some league 1 team in england so I could actually watch him play.

I really don't see a future for him at Man Utd. He has already blown it with his showings last season.

I wonder how much Utd are paying him (ie maybe he is free just to get him off the books - Im not sure the club have verified, through published accnts, how much he cost)

A season out of the limelight, and he may just fade away.......

I dont think Arsenal would be able to sign players of a similar quality of Fabregas and Nasri tbh and forgive me if I'm being incredibly naive but would they need to? Both Wilshire and Ramsey are ridiculously talented with bags of potential, sure the squad would need strengthening especially if the likes of Denilson and Bendtner are to leave us well but that can be done with the likes of Chamberlain etc

Like I said I may be being naive but I wouldn't be that concerned losing Fabregas, Nasri and Clichy knowing I had Wilshire, Ramsey & Gibbs ready to step in

Totally agree - quality is there thru and thru, but practically non-existant experience (ie until now there have been much more experienced players along side Wilshere and Ramsey - obviously there still will be with Gibbs - but without Fab especially, a team desperately needing on field leadership would look amazing all over the pitch but could well struggle in the tougher matches.

There is also the possibility that IF Nasri and or Fab go, a lot of other players might force their way out as well without some mega replacements

The success of Smalling and Hernandez has largely stopped a lot of questions about what the hell was going on with the Bebe signing!

It easily ranks as one of if not the most bizarre signings Fergie has made.

to be fair Smalling was actually signed in the previous window and loaned back to Fulham

I would agree about it being a bizarre signing though :)

What i mean is we signed 3 players with huge question marks about how they would fit in and getting 2 out of 3 hitting the ground running is awesome. Had the other 2 struggled im sure there would have been even more questions asked about what SAF was thinking.

As ive said before Bebe was the SAF equivalent of when you come in after a night out and log into you ebay account. When you wake up sober the next morning you wonder what the hell you've bought.......

BBC saying Charlie Adam to Liverpool is a done deal

I suspect i may be made to eat my words but i dont see the fuss TBH.

Liverpool will have spent around £60m and got Andy Carroll, Jordan Henderson and Charlie Adam.

I like Carroll and Henderson as players but if you gave Liverpool fans £60m last summer im sure these players wouldnt have made their top 100 wish list.

Sorry but there were never HUGE question marks over Smalling and Hernandez at all imo - Smalling was a reasonably known player, although I will agree it has been a rapid rise from obscurity, for the price paid - he was always going to be a reasonable bet.......he just happens to be a lot better than that so far.

Chicharito has confounded everyone with how quickly he has adapted to a new country, and a new league etc etc. However again for the small price paid, whether he would continue to struggle (if he had to start with) , is another matter entirely. Not only that he is a completely different striker to what we had, (apart from an unfit /aging Owen lol) so there was a hole in the squad that he naturally fitted into. Its not really like we paid £20m or something for an unknown, or even £30m for a well known player who had to make the same kind of move......

Bebe had never played top level football and for the fee thats considered to be correct, the question mark on the player was immense in comparison to the other two imo

(just my opinion of course )

Cabaye going to Newcastle done deal. 4.5

Very happy with this. One of the main driving forces in Lille for the past two season. Him and tiote should make Newcastle very good in the middle of the park.

Just need a winger and 2 striker now as well as other improvements!!

I can only see these players actually giving us good squad depth which in honesty we dont have other than 1 or 2 good reserve players. Henderson may come great still young and has potential.

Not sure with adam at all still, Ill back all the players we sign till i feel they haven't done enough which i cant judge yet anyway but we need some proven quality signings like Suarez was so i.e. Mata which were linked to.

The likelihood is that it signals the depature of Wickham. There's a lot of speculation that he'll end up at Liverpool although there's also talk that Sunderland have agreed a fee with you but that they're not confident of getting him.

If Wickham does go, I hope he actually gets a decent amount of game time. He supports Liverpool so in all likelihood he would probably go there if the opportunity arose.

I dont think we are really disagreeing tbh. If we were putting the signings in order then Bebe was by far the biggest risk however i do still think as a group of players joining the squad expectations werent particularly high.

Our record with middle of he road foreign strikers isnt great of late (Dong, Manucho, Diouf etc), had Hernandez played a handful of games and been off on loan to another English club in Jan it wouldnt have been a HUGE shock.

Smalling was a player who went from non-league to Fulham to us in a remarkably short period. If he had come to us and frozen or hit a brick wall it wouldnt have been a major shock either.

Im just delighted they turned out so well.

I have to say im very excited by the way the close season has began. If we can add Young, Jones and De Gea straight away along with Welbeck and Cleverley coming back that gives us a nice freshness.

Our midfield really is going to be interesting too.

I don't think Jones, Young and De Gea would be the end of it either. I still think we'll get either Modric or Nasri, though I think Modric is more likely as I can't see Arsenal selling Nasri to United. Adding central midfielders is a priority, as next season will probably be Giggs' last, and I still have my doubts over Anderson. Has there been any further news about Sunderland's triple bid? I'd be glad to see the back of Gibson!
