Didnt even know this was out yet!Super 8
Completely not what I expected, but it was still pretty awesome.
The 80's setting was beautiful and the comedic elements surprised me. To some extent though I felt the script seemed a little 'under-developed', another 20 or so minutes was needed to be honest.
Still, it was fun! And when I say fun I mean fun, I was expecting a dark twisty sci-fi-ish thriller majig, but it turned out 'fun'.
8/10
I'm still working through my Daily Star top ten to being a movie critic list - cheers for the tipoff ~>DG<~ - so I've just watched Seven Samurai. I split it over two nights as it's 3 hours long so a bit of a slog. It's good, but it's heavy going... picture quality isn't great, and the subtitles are a bit sporadic, so from time to time there's things being said without any indication of what it all means.
I'm sure there's a lot of value to be found in there, but it's hard work looking for it.
Still, entertaining enough.
Did you watch the Criterion Blu-ray or another version. Picture quality on the Criterion is superb for a film that age and it's got remastered subtitles as well. Personally think it's a fantastic movie.
Paul.
Very funny.
8/10
Not specifically last night but we've watched a few films over the past few nights:
1) Hanna: I really enjoyed and thought it was a brilliantly directed movie with an outstanding performance from Saoirse Ronan who is only 17 years old
No spoilers from me but I'd give it 8/10 and would hope to see this young lady in a few more good movies soon
2) The Silver Streak (1976): I admit I'd never heard of this one before but was assured by my OH it was good. Starred Gene Wilder and the late great Richard Pryor also starring Mr James Bond's Jaws - Richard Keil. I can only assume that the sands of time has erased the comedy aspect from this movie as it was an hour and a half of my life I'll never get back - 2/10
3) The Adjustment Bureau: with (insert Team America voice) Matt Damon and Emily Blunt. To be honest the only reason I continued to watch this far fetched romp all the way through was the sexy Mrs Blunt. Definitely not one I'd recommend, I can only assume Mr Damon is struggling for options after his Bourne trilogy - 4/10
And Finally:
4) Paul: which we both thought was brilliant. Lots of original funny parts, well acted out, good effects, lots of cameo effects (music, dialogue etc etc) too. Though I admit you'd have to be a real geek to get all of them (sadly I did) though I had to explain a few to my OH8/10
Still to watch is Paul Bettany' new movie Preist and the classic 1968 Ice Station Zebra![]()
