And there's no indication that he will force the issue now.

Barca were offering ~£30m for Fabregas last summer, Arsenal would have been mad to sell him for that. He may not have played as well as previous seasons but he still had a better season that 9 out of 10 midfielders and Arsenal can still get far more than £30m for him.

In what world were they wrong not to sell him?

In the world where his value is only what a club is willing to pay for him.

He only wants to go to Barca.

They are NOT desperate to sign the third wheel.

This is NOT a Ronaldo or Beckham situation where the media coverage pays any club expenses. Barca dont NEED this deal.

What he does have though is brilliant ball retention and the ability to dictate from midfield, those two aspects of which are completely lacking from any of the current Man Utd midfielders

Basically if we add Modric to our midfield the rest of the league wouldn't stand a chance IMO

I like him as a player but that is a stretch IMO. Where does he play?

That only applies if Arsenal want or need to sell him. They don't need or want to sell him.

When a club doesn't want or need to sell a player, they set the valuation. If Barca don't pay the asking price for Fabregas, he stays. How have Arsenal lost out?

Going by your theory, Barca may as well offer £1. Arsenal would be foolish to reject it as Barca are the only club he'll leave for.

When he makes it clear he wants to go though?

He has stayed for at least two years more than the initial Barca enquiry. Arsenal have won nothing.

How do you keep him now?

If he says "Enough, I want to go home to Barca now, i gave you two extra years", it doesnt matter if Arsenal value him at £100m

Fabregas still has what, 4 years left on his contract still? It's not like he's going to go for nothing any time soon so it's nonsense to say that he's worth 'less' this year - he's worth exactly what Arsenal will sell him for after all, it's irrelevant what Barca will or will not pay - plus he's the kind of player that is the difference between regularly making the Champs League and scrabbling around with the nearlys like Spurs.

The same way they kept him last season.

It's clear that he would like to move to Barca but providing he doesn't throw his toys out of the pram, which is very unlikely, Arsenal's position is very solid due to the fact he's got a long term contract.

If it was as simple as you say then why don't Barca offer £1?

Arsenal only have a decision to make once Barca offer a fair price and even then, it's not a given that they should sell him either.

i think fabregas would only leave if arsenal failed to get cl football. next season will be extremely tough to get into the top 4 and arsenal may easily find themselves in the mix with liverpool and spurs.
be interesting to see how city fair in the chase for top 4 too as it could quite easily fall apart for them, same for spurs who could find themselves stamping no better than 6th.

Given City are away after each of their UCL games I'd say they'll be playing catch up for much of the season to make top 4 again

I would see Modric sold if it meant we got Falcao in.

If instead, and I'm 80% certain this will now happen, we sell Modric and 'replace' him with Scott Parker, my wrists will form new lakes in the area.

Our transfer window to consist of:

Friedel
Upson
Parker

Would be just typical Redknapp. :p

i hope so but their strength in depth could see them through. i reckon (and hope) it could split at the seams for them and mancini is replaced by the start of 2012
