What will come of all the hacking ?

That's what I was saying earlier in the thread about disagreeing with LulzSec just throwing passwords and account logins out into the wild. Too many kids are following them because of the "Anonymous is leigun" **** and jumping on this stuff and taking peoples accounts without any consideration of anonymity. There's a lot of kids that'll probably be picked up because they were opportunist, wanted in on the action and because it's behind a computer screen don't consider the consequences.

Well yeah, but everything they do where they appear to be jerks and start releasing data like that is just their "chan" side coming through.

Lets be honest Lulzsec is just a "chan" group, they'd never admit it but it wouldn't surprise me if they had access to 808chan's resources or even an offset of 808chan

haha, I told you that the census was insecure and I was saying for ages that the nhs was insecure as well. But no don't worry the government has your data in a secure server.

I think these escapades are hilarious.

They released all those emails and passwords, it was easy to log in to peoples email accounts and facebook. I think it is good that they release the info. Like they said, if they don't release the info, it will just sit on the black docs market where it will be traded for whatever like the rest of the docs that is not released. So if they release it forces people to be more secure and it brings the docs in to the light.

AS for releasing the whole census db, I don't mind i didn't sign up :D

/Stupid

What could you even do with all that data? Identity fraud?

/Stupid

If they had census data they could pretty much do anything in your name, but I doubt Lulzsec even if they had it would confirm they had or share any of it, as that information is too valuable on the blackmarket or in content

Guantanamo Bay would be the perfect place for these people.
Why?

congratulations you win the daftest post of the thread award

they are not hilarious, they are not doing it for a laugh..if this was for a laugh they wouldnt release people personal information

its all well and good exposing security flaws but to then give that info away to people who will use it for their own profit is not helping their cause..it then becomes a criminal act and effects peoples lives when this info is used against them

I doubt they actually have the entire census DB. LulzSec seem to be so amateurish they will just say stuff in the hope that people believe them.

It annoys me that this attack on SOCA will probably be presented to the laymen much worse than it is. Of course SOCA werent kitted out to handle a DDoS on their public site? Why would they spend public money on that? Of course though, people will say 'even world renowned intelligence agencies (SOCA, CIA etc) are getting hacked!'

Bunch of idiots TBH....SQL injection didn't work? Bring out the botnets!

Well ofc they haven't got the entire census, they would not have anywhere near enough storage space to take a significant amount

lol wut?

I am somewhat reminded of an incident a few months ago, when a hacker broke into the New Media mini-site of my university, and posted a tirade on the front page about how a university should better defend itself, and how he could have done this that and t'other with all of the 'sensitive' information he could have stolen had he not been such a spiffing gent.

In actuality, the site he hacked is nothing more than an online noticeboard and timetable, and only stores some basic learning materials. All of which is freely open to Joe Public anyway.

They're completely hilarious! Whats funnier than getting on the case of people who take themselves, and their online lives, so seriously?

Are you talking about the government or Lulzsec? All aboard the lulzboat i say.

Depends. If they've seedboxes for warez sharing, they could have a very significant amount of space and bandwidth.

unless they have recently upgraded or the "group" that stole the census is different, Lulzsec could only still 60,000+ accounts from sony but they announced they had compromised over a million, and then further announced they could only steal 60,000 because they didn't have the storage to do it all, but like I said earlier I very much doubt Lulzsec is just a "group".

Why not is not a reason. I could say why not throw you in?
