BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

Hello all,

Can you guys please tell me what the pings are like with the unlimited package and do you get throttled at certain times? FTTC has arrived in my area an i'm thinking about joining the rest of the cool kids and signing up. did the speed test on bt and says i can get around 35mb/7.5mb.

Currently with BE and after 3 years of great service downloading at 2.1mb/s all of a sudden now ive lost nearly 8mb/s downloading at 1.18mb/s they've been monitoring my line but that is all they are seem to be doing about it. fancy a change.

cheers

I moved from Be to ADSL24 FTTC, best thing i've done. Been very good so far. I had a little issue when it first went live when my off peak usage was still being added to my peak usage, but they fixed it and reset my usage half way though the month as a sign of good faith. Been spot on ever since. I sync at 40/10 and its not dropped once. No shaping, throttling, congestion etc here.

Pings are great for me, Just ran this now...

Code:
C:\Users\xXxXx>ping www.bbc.co.uk

Pinging www.bbc.net.uk [212.58.244.67] with 32 bytes of data:

That's some serious connection you got there dude! :)

Whats the usage allowance? I use Usenet a lot so 100GB would be too less for me.

How far are you from your exchange? I am about 500m but the line goes around a few areas beforehand.

Just did a check are they are available for me

Thanks. If your interested search my posts in this thread, i posted some speed tests etc. Also regarding pings i sit around 20-25ms in a full Black ops server. :)

30Gb peak which is 8am - midnight, Off peak is midnight to 8am and all weekend and is of course unlimited.

I'm only about 150 metre's from the Cab, thats what counts not the distance from the exchange. which is more like 2.5 miles (as the crow files anyway) :)

Check this out...

I'm on ADSL24's fibre 30 Pro package.

My estimate was 35/7, i sync at full speed. Do you know where your cab is?

cp88: I'm in Bucks just outside London. :)

A lot of people say don't touch an ISP that has traffic shaping like BT but who else do you go with that offers the download allowance and speed for the money?

I want to up grade my Zen ADSL to fibre and for a 100Gb allowance will cost me £45.60 a month, £90 for activation and then a fibre router on top of that to purchase. How on earth is that value for money? At fibre speeds, what use is 100Gb and the price you pay for that pathetic amount?

So can anyone suggest an ISP that offers better than BT Infinity?

I dont see the problem with traffic shaping aslong as its done properly, I have had no problems with BT so far, tho I don't torrent..

My pings stay the same 24/7 and I thank traffic shaping for that.

Don't BT have over 5 million subs? Shaping is needed. Infinity is a AWESOME upgrade from any ADSL product.

The battlefield bad company issues (before anyone mentions it) is a routing problem IMO.

When I was on BeThere at peak times pings would rise 2-3ms which is nothing, but still.

If you wanted to torrent on BT, you could use mullvad VPN for 5 euro's a month, they allow torrenting :)

Yeah me too, I did love Be* tho :(

Anyone under 600 meters from cabinet should get full 40/10 easy. (I am less than 100 meters, looking forward to 80mbit upgrade)

yup be* was 100% awesome, now it doesnt meet my demands anymore. Also I'm predicted to get 33.3Mb from BT.

Cabinets cant be in the exchange, crosstalk ect.

I hear people that are really close to the exchange wont be able to get vDSL atm.

We'll see what happens, If BE can fix my line I'll stay with them for a while if not then I'll Inquire about FTTC.

I use ExpatShield btw Angerer as a VPN

Thanks man, yeah been looking into getting myself an account for NFL this year, if they can come to an agreement over this labour dispute :p
