Armed Forces Day

I think theres quite a few of us on these forums who serve/served, however I can only think of about 8 at this time.

Castiel was it the Marines you were in? How long were you in for?

First toast to all the individuals that have lost their lives so we can keep ours.
Second toast is in congratulations to a job well done and keep up the amazing and hard work they all do.

Will toast to the first. My second would be to their safe return to their family and loved ones. Whatever my pesonal feelings about the armed forces, you couldn't expect anyone to decently do less.

*Toast*

Nothing special going on at my workplace today, just another ordinary day.

Thinking of my great uncle Aiden, who flew out over europe manning the tail gun of a Lancaster and never came back.

I only recently found out that over 50,000 RAF Bomber Command airmen lost their lives in WWII.

Truly humbling.

Thankyou too. I wish the services were more appreciated in this country.

Many bomber command squadrons were destroyed, statistically, around 10 times over by the end of the war. It was one of the most dangerous occupations of the war on all sides, possibly only second to the German U Boat service.

Aye, people don't appreciate just how many people lost their lives in WW2, all the talk is about WW1.

You think so? I would have said it was the other way around. I see/hear lots about WWII, but barely anything for WWI.

Currently reading a book about WWI. So many men thrown away.

I was referring mainly to the lives lost and how WW1 takes precedence, people do not usually equate the same kind of tragic loss of life to WW2 as they do WW1.
