****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

IMO if you're sensible and are careful with your phone, it's mostly pointless anyway (same goes for cases). I've had my HD2 for almost 2 years and there's not a single scratch on it... plus the SGII uses Gorilla glass which will make it even less prone to scratches/cracks etc.. :o

If youd been keeping up to date on the SGS II form the start you would know that isnt true... the screen has been getting scratches from just being in pockets, and has been reported multiple times on both this forum and on XDA. A screen protector is a necessity with this phone if you care about leaving it in top condition. A case is just common sense also.

makes no difference to me how good the screen is with scratches I will always use a screen protector, I know in 6 months time for example this screen is as perfect as it was on day one.

When selling phones that's the first thing I get asked on eBay is there any marks on the screen and I sold 6 phones on there.

I get messages after they have received them saying what good condition the phone is in its just nit worth the risk with an expensive phone.

im not a fan at all of screen protectors, i hate the feel and look of even the best ones, *for me* all that time and money goes into making those screen for us to stick a cheap bit of plastic over the top :D

anyway that is just my view, however i don't want scratches either, so i use the sena leather slip and never stick it in a pocket without it.

i didnt like the idea of a screen protector, but i put one on to try and i have to say its perfectly fine

doesnt really effect the picture of the sensation of touch so all good for me

I do kind of agree, but 3 hours to try and install one, and even then unsuccessful (oh and the levels of anger would have meant the phone was gonna suffer more than a few scratches after that amount of time :P) - it's still not on the phone, cos of all the dust underneath, think i'm going to try and find a decent belt pouch instead to look after it! Need one that will work with the genuine samsung case though...

Go steam up your shower/bath room, like totally steamy. Close everything, let the steam settle, the quickly work on getting the protector applied. The steam will catch all the dust and settle it on surfaces, making it much easier.

Hrm might be worth a try, do I buy another screen protector must have spent 50 quid on different ones so far?

Awesome thanks! Actually I was meant to ask this before, All the purchases I've made show in my email address & shopping area of my Google account But if I visit the market from a PC it says this "There are no Android phones associated with this account. Please sign in with a different account."

It is the same email account  Any idea why it is doing this?

Anyone have any idea?

I've tried changing my account to @gmail.com from googlemail.com, Setting up mobile devices within the account, Setting up Google authenticator, Removing mobile number from account & re-adding.

Still no go on the Market :/

Google support is pretty turd too.

Yeah that is what I meant by Google support being turd. Tried those still doesn't work haha.

In fact Google support might not be turd. I think I have my @Sky.com account attached to the phone. But all my receipts & downloads go through my @gmail.com account. If I log in with my @sky.com account though it redirects to my @gmail.com account heh.

I guess I'm pretty screwed & pretty damn confused.

ok, this solves the problem:

weird and a shame becuase i much prefer the other calendar though im sure ill get used to this one.

Change the view from default block colours for appointments to text descriptions.

Much more functional, and more like how Outlook looks.

Accidentally put this in the accessory thread, thought I would share my experience of the phone coming from a HTC user. Unfortunately, deep down, I'm pretty disapointed by my £479 purchase and whilst I keep telling myself to put up with the terrible UI.

I'm not really sure how I feel about this phone after owning it for a couple of days; I'm torn between sending it back and getting the HTC Sensation.

The screen whilst very vivid and bright isn't all that great because there are very distinct grain/lines to images on the screen.

The lock screen really is just awful, it looks awful and the ergonomics of it is even worse. The amount of times I've had to try and unlock the device multiple times because you really have to drag the whole lock screen picture to the edge of the screen and either my finger has slipped or I haven't quite held it close enough to the edge.

I've bought Widget locker, but this is just a work around and has flaws such as any button will unlock the device due to using root mode, which is a must to get around the 5 second pause bug.

The email client is actually better than I expected, you CAN set out of office messages but I absolutely hate the black background and white text. It just looks unpolished and nowhere near as professional and crisp as HTC Sense.

I'm using GO Launcher, GO SMS and GO Dialler and I think these are brilliant applications, functional and look great. The issue is, once you call someone you end up at the horrible Samsung caller screen that's a gradient between red and black...

Gradients just remind me of amateur web designers when they've downloaded their first copy of Photoshop from a warez site.

The hardware is exceptional, picture quality is brilliant but I'm not a massive gamer and I only really enjoy casual games like Cut The Rope and Angry Birds which I believe the HTC Sensation is more than capable of handling.

I also have some sort of issue with image quality, I know Facebook pictures are usually compressed until you open them in full view but even icons and screenshots on the Android Market look very blotchy. I think this could be down to APN settings though, I've not changed tariff or SIM as I bought the handset outright. Maybe the phone has set me up on a different APN that O2 are using to save people hammering their mobile net by compressing content? Who knows.

I don't know, I'm torn, I've told myself to ignore the cosmetic issues with the UI but it just doesn't feel like a polished device to me.

Unfortunately MUIU isn't really available in useable form for this phone, as that UI is much better and consistent...

If you read back & check out the sensation thread, this is exactly what I have just gone though, I missed the return period of 7 days so I purchased the Sensation Sim-Free & the Galaxy is getting sold.

I am very pleased I decided to change, even though the sensation is not as quick and the camera isn't as good bla bla bla, I don't care overall user experience is in another league and day to day its just a nicer phone to use and get things done on. ;)

you mean the colour banding? i must admit its pretty obvious if you are looking for it. most of the time i dont notice it though, not on photos or video and not on many apps that i can think of

I'm not sure i understand this 'bug'. the 5 second pause bug only applies i think if you press home/lock/home quickly. All i can tell you is i dont encouter this big and only the home and lock buttons wake my sgs2 up. No hardware buttons unlock my phone

there is plenty of free alternatives out there and some very good paid software. I'm not sure if that counts as a reason to send the phone back however? seems like a minor details when its something so easy to change

For its drawbacks, i still prefer launcher pro as it's smoother on my phone, but i do use Go SMS and dialer. As for the caller screen, yeah i dont like it either. Again though, that's really pushing it as a reason to send it back? i'm not bothered as the phone is unsurprisingly not in front of me when im calling somebody - i just dont care enough to look for an alternative

Gradients just remind me of amateur web designers when they've downloaded their first copy of Photoshop from a warez site.

as above really, not interested in the colour of a screen i never look at.

yes that is probably your apn settings. unless you fix them you'll probably have the same problem with the sensation as its nothing to do with the phone

I don't know, I'm torn, I've told myself to ignore the cosmetic issues with the UI but it just doesn't feel like a polished device to me.

They seem like very small problems (and not all down to the phone) to warrant switching to the sensation. I think think you're going to gain much but if you like a phone that's more polished but slightly behind specs-wise then maybe the sensation is for you. I wouldnt though, i bought an android phone to tinker. I knew there would be some changes that i'd make (and in fact ive changed the rom {lite-ning rom}, the contact app, lock screen, messenging apps, the launcher...just about everything, and i wouldnt change it at all

Unfortunately MUIU isn't really available in useable form for this phone, as that UI is much better and consistent...

I'm in the same boat guys! - It's just not a polished finish! Think I'm beginning to regret not waiting for the sensation now......

Customised it with Go launcher (sense calendar don't work btw), rooted it, used titanium to get rid of the social crud etc - but I still feel cheated!

Can't say I game on it - email client is now gone after getting rid of social hub, and tbh I'm thinking its a bit too wide (even though I have big hands) - for one handed operation......

When it comes to the two phones, you either choose the one with poorer hardware or poorer software.

I know which is easier to fix when it comes to Android.

Its the ergonomics of the SGSII I'm personally finding hard to get to grips with - its huuuge - too wide to hold comfortably, and the screen makes me feel like I've started using a display designed for someone with a sight problem!! - i.e Huge! but not high res.......

i think some of you are to fussy, i have not come across something that i cant change.

the lock screen is naff... so i changed it to a pattern.

i hate all the bloatware so i removed it.

other apps i just replaced with free or paid ones on the market
