****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

WP7 is a fantastic OS.

If they released a Galaxy S II with it, I'd probably get one.

It's horrible, our work IT guy has a WP7 phone and it just had no breadth to it at all. There was like two screens, the live tiles and the application menu - that was it until you get into the applications.

The gMaps application just looked woeful, didn't have many features and looked dated.

In your opinion, I think it's very good and so do many other people, the majority infact.

Please accept my apologies for such a basic question, but I am assuming that I can follow the guide on XDA to debrand my o2 supplied S2, but instead of using the old firmware that they link to in their thread can I just go and use the most recent generic firmware?(GT-I9100_XEU_I9100XWKF3_I9100XXKE7_I9100XEUKD1.TAR)

aww dude - no you just didnt! - minus respect points for you dude :p

I've only got a HTC Mozart (work phone) because its the lesser of two evils (either that or a TP2 with WM6.5)

WP7 is crap for enterprise use (see my notes in the mango thread) and just too basic for consumer use - Other than the tiles (which even them are boring) the underlying interface is pants! it reminds me of the iphone - i.e. restrictive -not very customisable - HAVE to use Zune to sync with - I hate being tied into the manufacturers software (well in this case MS Zune!)

I don't care about respect points, from a neutral perspective WP7 is very slick and has a lot of decent features when you get used to it. It isn't everyone's cup of tea but then neither is Android.

I say the same thing about iOS (because it's true, as much as many people don't like it).

I think the Omnia 7, for example, is a cracking phone.

Other than Xbox Live - Theres absolutely NOTHING appealing about WP7. Even I admit that ios is good for what it is - I'm no android fanboy but theres a reason why suppliers the UK over are refusing to develop apps for WP7.

Anyways - Each to their own, back on topic - Just upgraded to KF3 - I'm assuming no root yet, pls post if there is a method, thanks

KF3 finally installed - phone needed a reboot to get kies to work. Not much different, still the same android version but hopefully wi-fi sharing battery drain is fixed, will find out tomorrow!

Hi, I am on Rooted and KE7, So my question is why do i need KF3 ? and how do i use it from Kies v2.01 ? I get this version of firmware can not be updated in Kies ?

PDA: KE7/ Phone : KE4 / CSC:KD1 (CPW)

Looks like we can use the CLK-KF3 root from chainfire :)

@@nam - just use the version available to flash via odin on xda

We can make a new thread about this if you want :p

WP7 has a lot of money behind it and will get where it needs to go, it will probably have 'official' app support from things like banks even before Android does at the rate things are going.

It has been launched in a heavily saturated phone market and it was never going to be a huge hit overnight, hell, it's still lacking a lot of features but they are all being implemented via updates at a fair pace.

I know it doesn't do anything entirely new but it has a few advantages over Android and then is basically neck and neck with iOS but behind on apps, I like Zune more than iTunes, too.

This may seem obvious to most, but it had me stumped for a while....for anyone having issues getting Kies to connect - you have to have Touchwiz running or it will not connect to the phone. I could not work out why it stopped working then realised that it was because I was running Launcher Pro, so just switched back using homeswitcher and I was able to update my firmware without any trouble.

Hi, just wondering if anyone can suggest a good place for a deal on this phone.

I'm currently with TMobile, my phone (G1) was up for an upgrade after its 18 month contract not the april just gone, but the april before. Tmobile wanted £160 to upgrade the phone on my current contract. Emailed them and asked if they could do it for free as I've been with them for so long and the reply I get is "well, what we'll do is pretend you are new to tmobile and give you the new customer deal" which is:

A new 24 months contract
900 minutes
500 text messages
A free of charge flexible booster (choice of unlimited text messages, unlimited calls to T-Mobile numbers or unlimited calls to landline numbers)
Unlimited internet
The Samsung Galaxy S II free of charge
£35.75 inc VAT monthly plan charge

Now, its what I pay already similar package with free internet and texts (free flexible booster) rarely use over 100 mins a month. I'm a bit peeved that basically, the 30+ months I've been with them this is the best they can do.

Can anyone suggest anywhere else to try?

I want to keep my phone fairly standard for the moment, it currently has firmware KE1 on it. Kies is saying "This version of the device cannot be updated.". Is there any way around this or do I need to use Odin? I don't think i have a preproduction unit or anything so I'm surprised Kies won't update it.

EDIT: I just did a google search for the error message and there are loads of threads so I'll probably find out in a sec. ;)

EDIT2: Yeah it's because I have a branded handset, and I do need to use Odin.

Wi fi sharing bug is fixed, the process only starts up if you activate the portable hotspot and shuts down when you turn it off

I updated to the latest firmware with KIES... then I tried to root my phone, did the ODIN but then went to use the Super tool and it can't seem to root my phone?

Anyone routed with the new firmware?
