I'd argue the quality of the under 21's was better than the likes of Uzbekistan or Lithuania in a meaningless friendly

Hernandez was 6 millin and was brought in to add pace to a slow attack. If it didnt work out no biggy.

When you spend 20 million on a keeper and only have 1 keeper on the pitch at one moment in time, the situation is entirely different.

playing a total of 57 games for your club isnt ex[erienced even if it is for his age. We didnt have to buy a 21 year old keeper...

Okay how about a world xup.tournament where the amazibg robert green can go from hero to zero?

Hang on...

Firstly no Robert Green was never amazing, he showed before the world cup he was capable of mistakes so rubbish comparison

Secondly so any young player that hasn't played in a world cup is unproven?

Give it up mate you're just embarrassing yourself now

Hang on, you say that someone who has never played in a international match, let alone a world cup, nor the champions league and has less than 60 first team appearances is a proven player?

It is not I who should be embarrassed sorry Tom, i think you need to re read what you wrote.

De Gea is gonna be 'trained' @ man utd until such a time that Real or Barca need a new keeper and then he will say "he wants to go home" and one of the above two will get a top notch keeper...

other news...

Wesley staying @ Inter on all accounts, and Stoke sign woodgate

No you're right, group think goes a long way in here and its clearly not the popular option to agree with me. And whatever the case, that point still doesnt answer my point.

Ill grant you the dictionary definition of the word proven: 'established beyond doubt'

Now, the fact that there is doubt because he has never played at the highest level automatically invalidates the option of him being proven. But clearly, this could go round in circles if you think that an U21 championship is like appearing at the world cup proper.

Yes, ill reel myself in a little - He hasnt been sat around in the reserve team doing diddly squad. He has established himself as a top prospect, but he hasnt established himself as a top keeper - yet.

my point is, we dont need a top prospect keeper, we just need a top keeper. TO mess about with such an expensive infidel is a bit like playing with fire, especially after the fiasco we have had since losing schmikes.

De Gea is fine, it's a little bit of a gamble but he's played extensively in the Europa League and in one of the best leagues in Europe against the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid.

He's not hugely experienced but to imply he isn't experienced is just silly.

I think (and very much hope) he'll do fine, then we have a GK sorted for the next 15 years or so, hopefully.

he won't go to Real so we don't need to worry about them, Barca..... Meh maybe maybe not

Just looking through our keepers after Schmeichel and had completely forgotten about Roy Carrol... what a low point that was for the club... *shudders*

People claiming on RAWK and another liverpool forum and some guy who people say he gets stuff right for Villa most of the time thinks we have agreed a fee of 19.75M for Downing, Whilst i call ******** to it cause that's very specific and why not just state 20M and if fee was agreed surely like Adam we would announce it bah.

Arsenal just go buy Downing please like tomorrow so we can end this :(

I've said it half a dozens times already over the past couple of years but De Gea is the real deal, he looks to be the complete package to me, a very strong character even as a teenager and I would be astounded if he doesn't establish himself as one of, if not the best keeper in Britain, it would take a serious injury or Reyes syndrome to prevent that happening. He's already an improvement on VDS IMO and was the player top of my wishlist for Arsenal.

As for him not having any caps that's because Spain have an embarrassment of riches, even the likes of Reina who is highly regarded by most English supporters doesn't get many games for them.
