I doubt many of us can but he does fix something we need, Okay i think all LFC fans me included would rather have Mata if its true he was even up for grabs.
I still think we are limited to who we can attract due to Europe anyway it be nice to say were liverpool were still big come to us whilst we are still a big club with no Europe top players wont always come they might sometimes i.e. Suarez but cant see that being the case every time
Donwing was 1st choice and it isn't a case of Downing or Mata.
Our priority was to sign a wide player that would give us natural width and would supply the crosses that Carroll will thrive off. Mata's a great player but he doesn't do that, Downing may not be as good as Mata but he does what we need.
There's room for a Mata type player too but it's less of a priority but hopefully we're still interested in bringing him in.
Do it for Messi/Aquero then may aswell im sure we can spam to 223 pages for them two players easily on RAWK.
On a related note twitter(yes i know its twitter) posts saying Downing handed in a request to force the move through.
I might be in the minority, but I'm happy with Downing. Good player, proven in the Prem, can supply crosses and scores the odd goal as well, able to play creatively in the centre or wide. I'll take that.

Anyway, general consensus is the fee is 'in the region of' £20m. Lets hope it's in the low end of that region.

Liverpool have revealed that they have had a £20million bid accepted by Aston Villa for Stewart Downing.
We're going to have a squad with plenty of options for once and if the likes of Cole, Jovanovic, Poulsen, Ngog, Aquilani and/or Meireles leave, I wouldn't be surprised to see another forward and winger brought in too.
