Kuyt dropped entirely from the first 11 then?

I'm actually not sure we will even have a first 11 as such, I think there will be quite a lot of rotation, I can envisage 3 or 4 players changing almost weekly.

If we play 4-3-3 then he'll be on the bench if everybody is fit more often than not.

Agree, there won't be a first 11 though. There's so many systems we could play and so many variations of players we can play too; there will be plenty of games for everybody. Of our midfield and attack, it's only Lucas and Suarez that I'd imagine will more or less every game when fit.

Luis Suarez tells you to **** off :p

And don't pin all this on the King. Comolli spent (relatively) big money on british players during his time at Spurs too.

And just like with Adam and his set-play stats; Downing's created more goalscoring chances from open play than any player in the Premier League over the last 3 seasons (via OptaJoe :p), which I'm sure Comolli likes.

It would be great if Opta actually said what made a goal scoring chance, because apparently Kevin Davies created the highest number of goal scoring chances the season before.......... so it might mean smeg all.

I really hate Opta, and any stats site that makes it more difficult(or impossible) than it should be to actually find the definitions for things like key passes, complete passes, failed passes, fouls vs missed tackles, etc, etc, etc.

I believe it's the final pass before an attempt on goal; in other words it's the same as an assist but includes all attempts on goal, not just the attempts that go in. Davies probably got the most because a very high % of Bolton's play goes through him.

Even those that see Hargreaves as a defensive player he was always more box to box for us proved by the fact he played right wing in the Champions League final so I disagree; a midfield with Sneijder, Carrick, Fletcher, Anderson & Giggs gives us more than enough options next season and then next summer should Giggs retire we bring in Nasri on a free to replace him

However you charachterize OH's play (and I agree he was box -to - box) he was still a hard tackler and was fast enough to get back to help out if required.

With Sneijder actually naturally playing more forward than nearly anyone in Utd's CM slots for a number of years (given that even Giggs has been cm /box to box) - and anyway its not like Giggs is likely to play more than 1 in 3 games anyway. Fletcher (who's health still has to be questioned) is the only really hard tackler Utd have.

For an all too limited time OH wasnt to be messed with in this regard (same for Keane over a longer period, and Viera for Ansenal) - they may be CM's but they were also well drilled defensively and when a player was tacked by one of these players, they stayed tackled. Which really cant be said of anyone (maybe in a few games last season Park did this, but even so he has never done it consistantly)

If SAF doesnt think Nasri is coming to Utd (and imo he was talking about ever, not just this summer) - not entirely sure why you are convinced otherwise , and also not sure why Utd would go for Nasri once Sneijder was signed anyway.

Jesus, getting really angry now, Wenger thinks its actively a great idea to force Nasri to stay, and let him walk on a free.

Seriously, getting 20mil + now is, according to Wenger, worse than forcing him to stay and getting absolutely nothing for him next year.

So instead of 20mil, we'll pay him another 2.5mil, then not get a fee, seriously, this is how to make Arsenal seem like a big club? We can sell him for a truly ridiculous fee now and get someone cheaper AND better and for a position we actually need, instead we'll keep an average player, lose him on a free, and have no money to buy a quality replacement.

Yay, we're making a statement about how good we are, yay, thats going to work wonders.

Wenger does seem to be going a bit senile, 20mil would buy you a decent replacement on probably lower wages.

Why keep an unhappy player who probably won't try very hard instead of selling him for a decent price, way to make a point

Any we our first 11 though has not always been our problem because it has always been able to compete with any team. Our biggest problem has always been the bench and a thin sco. It was like get SG and Torres Injured then no more wins.

But for once we are struggling to find a 1st 11 because there are to many good players around which means competition. Thinking of a bench with Kuryt, Aquillani Mirles, etc is good news to me.

Its honestly one of the most ridiculous things yet in a long line of ridiculous things.

Bendter got less games in the league last year than Rosicky, yet scored and assisted more, with both being essentially wingers(though neither actually prefering that role). Rosicky 950minutes or so, 1 assist, Bendtner, 500 minutes 2 goals, 2 assists. Bendtner is younger, not as injury prone and on a lower wage, while being more effective. So rather than sell Sicknote 2-3 years ago, we're getting rid of the better player, who has another decade left to play, who only wants to leave because we refuse to play him.

We're refusing to make a ridiculous fee on Nasri, to make some retarded point, even though after next Summer we'll still be down a player, just, with 20mil less in our pockets.

Ok, if the fee for Nasri was being rumoured at 5mil, or 3mil, meh, thats not exactly a huge difference, but 20mil, plus his wages for the year, we can essentially be 22.5mil better off by selling him now.

I'm even wound up about the Gervinho thing, everyone else was pushing transfers through early, Arsenal screwed about and now he's not with the squad training at the moment when had we just got it done a week earlier, he'd be out getting to know the team, training and getting games under his belt with the team.

Wenger just makes life harder for the team for no reason. Sorry but how can we keep Rosicky, asides from the injury issues, we still barely played him last year, he was almost completely ineffective when we did, and he's on a pretty big wage.

He really sometimes appear weird. Yes Nasri is decent but in his current situation there is no need for keeping him or worrying where he goes. I don't think he would make Man U or man C any more dangerous to Arsenal than they currently are.

So whats Liverpools starting line up for next season?

___________Reina
Johnson__Carragher__Agger__J.Enrique?
____Henderson_Gerrard_Meireles
Suarez___________________Downing
___________Carroll

Looks decent, but I still believe Spurs have a better team and thats not taking into account that Man United, Chelsea, City and Arsenal are favorites for the top 4.

Wont matter if Spurs continue their awesome form infront of goal ..

Whilst I'm not particularly down on downing (excuse the pun) what exactly are you basing him being a good player on? One good season at Villa?

I remember as a teen Downing was the next big thing, being linked with everyone then it all kinda stagnated at Boro and although he's only been at Villa 18 months (is it) it's last season that's been his best to date.

He's made a smart move moving from Villa now tbh not much loyalty shown to them but with no Young the expectancy would have been through the roof for Downing to be the main creative player at Villa next season so maybe to keep progressing it's a good move to move to Liverpool where they'll be less pressure on him to do everything.

I agree Villa look ****ed next season, given his previous I reckon this time next year Bent will be wanting to move on, that's if he's not already regretting going there in the first place.

How can you possibly say we look ****ed when we have yet to use the funds we have acquired? Make that comment when the window slams shut at the end of August and we've not signed anyone.

The pair we've sold clearly had their heads turned following a poor season for the Villa and their increased involvement with England, but I for one am not distraught about the sales, and in particular was quite keen to see Young move on as he became an arrogant, selfish player.

Randy's always backed his manager, and he will back McLeish - we will make signings and we will move on.

At times he over-backed Martin O'Neill (who still moaned) to make some very questionable signings (Reo-Coker £8m, Curtis Davies £10m, Cuellar £8m) and although people will benchmark Villa against the three years he was in command, the EPL is a different beast now - Man City, Spurs and Liverpool have all improved and acquired deeper pockets, and hence we have to accept they've gone significantly beyond us in the hunt for the top four.

Mail suggested this morning that Villa were looked at Vargas from Fiorentina as a replacement for Downing...isn't that a step up?

Seen a few names linked with Villa. Varges, Parker, Hutton, N'Zogbia.

No bids yet though.

what do people think about wesley to UTD? seems to be lots of gossip and conflicting reports

I don't think he'd step down TBH.

It's all speculation at the moment but if the reports about Gill being in Milan to negotiate are true then it could be quite likely.

I hope so at least, we'd be second only to Barcelona (perhaps level with Real Madrid) if we got him IMO, provided he worked out well of course.
