Too used to Carragher's plodding pace?

Wonder who would win in a race between Carragher and Corluka actually.

Been through this already, keep up.

Carragher has made 371 appearances since the 00/01 season for Liverpool.

King has made 243 appearances in the same time frame for Tottenham.

King has played over 25 league games five times in those seasons, Carragher has only played under 25 league games once in that same time frame.

You have no ground to stand on if you're going to damn Gerrard for "struggling for fitness" but then pick King over Carragher.

Please, go back and read again. I then went on to say I would STILL choose a Dawson and Gallas partnership over Carragher/Agger/Skrtel.

Even so, the difference that having King in the side would, in my opinion, still make me choose him over Carragher in defence. I do not, have not, and probably never will rate Carragher.

Gerrard has struggled over the past few seasons, and due to that fact, I would pick the current Tottenham midfield over him.

How would King make a difference? I suppose you could give his spot on the bench to a youngster.

I don't rate Carragher either, but he's experienced at the highest club level (having won a champions league) and is consistently fit and has been for the majority of his career? I personally don't understand why you'd pick a half fit cripple who's not achieved anything near as much as mr consistent and fit and experienced.

Spur's have a good side, I think they've under achieved last season and now risk losing their best player.

Spurs Without Ledley King Premier League 2004-05 to 2010-11
Played: 128
Won: 45
Drawn: 40
Lost: 43
Record: 50.78%
Goals Conceded: 166
Goals Conceded per Game: 1.3
Points Won: 175
Average Points Won per Game: 1.37

The difference in having Ledley King in the team adds about an extra 14 points and saves around 18 goals conceded over an entire season.

I've nicked the above from a Spurs forum. Consider that King is also usually saved for matches against the better teams. The difference in results when he is in the team is incredible.

Awesome. Still wouldn't pick him over Carragher. The man's done it all and has been fit and consistent all his career.

King is a good player, don't get me wrong and clearly has a big effect on Tottenham, but I'd say Carragher probably has a similar effect on L'pool, only difference is he's not missing as much as King and has achieved far more within the game then King.

I must be going mad.

Here goes.

I agree mostly with Jano. On paper Spurs have a much stronger starting XI than Liverpool. The keeper situation is without doubt in Liverpool's favour. The defence goes to Spurs. I'd say the midfield does too. He's wrong about the strikeforce though, Liverpool's (especially with Downing to give Carroll more goals) is the stronger by a long shot.

Oh, and Carragher is a big part of the problems Liverpool have had recently. Mainly being poo, but partly being old too. He's now slower than Hyypia :D

I think it includes league and cup, so something like 60 games a season, as I said, I nicked it, so didn't do the calculations. All I know is he makes a massive difference to us when he plays, just a shame he is knackered all the time and cant play, as I think he is probably the most talented defender to come out of England since the days of Bobby Moore.

5 years ago I probably would have taken Carragher over our current central defenders, but not now. Though I do have a liking for Agger when he decides to score a screamer from 30 yards ;)
