So what you are actually saying is..

Chelsea have a new manager, its yet to be seen whether Villa Boas will be good or bad, lets not forget that Mourinho was an unproven PL manager too. So either way they are at the least the same as before, not really backwards.

Arsenal as yet havent lost either of the two players, they may do, they may not, so again as yet they havent gone backwards they are at least the same.

City may lost Tevez, city may gain Aguero. Again, neither has yet happened so at the least they are the same, if tevez stays and aguero comes they will have improved, so again, not really backwards.

Liverpool ended the second half of the season well last year, in the summer they havent lost any major players and have gained additional players, so at the least they are the same + new players, again hardly backwards.

Just not sure how given what you are saying you reach the conclusion that most of the competition has gone backwards. Even Fergie himself says that all of those are challengers this year, but then what would he know about football eh :D

We can compare anything to what the managers say. Obviously SAF knows more than me. However i dont recall a season where he has ever said the competition were crap. Not a great tactic really.

I dont see anything about Chelsea, City or Asenal that would really make me go "wow, watch them go" this season.

It COULD happen of course, but going on what we can see its not an issue.

Neither do I, but then thats not the point I was making, the point I was making was that you didnt say that, you said they had done the opposite, which was go backwards. Although I dont think any of them have vastly improved (including Utd) to the "wow, watch them go" standard, I also dont think any of them have gone backwards (including Utd). Just because they havent reached watch them go, doesnt mean they have gone backwards (including Utd).

Fair point. The "going backwards" was more about the fact that Arsenal have 2 top players wanting to leave and City have their main man wanting to leave. Chelsea have a total unknown quantity managing then instead of the proven track record of CA.

My point was that they are fighting to maintain the status quo. I see i probably didnt put is over very well.

Barca strengthening doesnt affect us "scraping the league"

Winning the league is a great achievement. How the hell can you criticise a team that you think can win the league?

When this era of success is over fans like you will be in for one hell of a shock. Some of us remember Big Fat Ron and QPR players scoring hat-tricks against us.

I didn't say Barca strengthening would affect us winning the League  but even the most die hard United Fan would say we were extremely lucky last season, and if the other teams around us i.e Chelsea, Arsenal, City etc improve then it will be difficult with the squad we currently have.

I've linked to my views, if you can't be bothered reading then there's not much more I can say!

Read this and this properly, rather than raging away, not listening to what anyone's saying :|.

The world where no one's left, whilst Gervinho has come in and Vermaelen's back from injury .

I read both at the time.

No need to be so rude. Especially when your links are so poor. I responded. If you dont agree then that is your perogative. It doesnt make you right.

The point ive been making is that they havent improved at all.

Fair enough, its definitely been an interesting summer, I dont think any of the "big" teams has improved hugely. Some have made a few signings, some have kept a few players which might have left, but none have stood out and really made me think thats the team to beat this season. I think this could be a brilliant season ahead of us, I think its going to be real scrappy with quite a number fighting it out at the top. Should be good :)

Totally agree. By the time the transfer window "slams" (copyright Jim White SSN) shut i can see a few big moves.

There is nothing that worries me though and i stand by that.

Well De Gea was a pretty big name.

Pretty big but not as big as the name he was replacing.

i see so much doom and gloom. Have faith, i hear carrick has another gear to go...hopefully he can get out of reverse and slot right into first.

Odd to think a few pages ago that i said we weren't really strengthening and got slated but at least 2-3 people have now mentioned this in the last 2 pages huh?

Nah it just confirms your position as the worst possible type of fan.

Tbh Utd still have plenty to choose from:

Nani, Valencia, Young, Giggs, Carrick, Park, Fletcher, Anderson, (Rooney) gives you tons of combinations that would work just fine, CM is a touch light perhaps when playing a 4-4-2 but any form of 4-5-1 or 4-3-3 can help smooth that out with the personnel Utd have.

What a realist who isn't completely over awed by our signing this season compares to our short comings from last. i want to see us do.better but obviously this will be difficult if we haven't really improved our personnel...

Well Clichy has left, Bendtner looks to be on his way out, okay he's been replaced by Gervinho but he's currently unproven in the Premiership and Almunia looks to be on his way also leaving 2 very inexperienced goal keepers

Also dare I need mention the very likely fact that at least one of Fabregas and Nasri will be leaving, only the most optimistic Arsenal supporter would look past that point.

I'd say we are better off and expect us to be better this coming season than last.

The spine of the team was pretty much injured for most of last season and Vermaelen and RvP will hopefully stay fit. Wilshere somehow looks even better than last year and it wouldn't at all suprise me if Fab stays. Gervinho also looks to have a lot about him.

So far we've lost a cronically error prone defender and signed someone with some pedigree albeit in a weaker league. Arsene has also stated that we are looking for another defender.

So far for me I'm happy. That could all change of course over the coming weeks but I can't see how we are any weaker at all at the moment.

Is Gibbs Arsenal's first choice LB?

Good luck relying on RvP to stay fit, he's your answer to Darren Anderton.

Palermo's vice president has said it is "very likely" that pastore will join chelsea. :D

Now all we need to do is buy a decent winger.

I wouldnt be bothered if United didnt sign a midfielder this summer providing we see some of the younger players given a chance.
If he doesnt sign anyone and ticks with the same 4 under achievers as last year then he should be sent to the loony bin.

take out the wide players and that list suddenly looks a lot worse, especially when you consider that Fletcher is ill again and probably wont be fit before Oct / Nov at best (and without having any pre-season will be behind the curve for some time after that as well)

SAF has confirmed that Rooney will only be used as a striker again and not as a mid-fielder (if it was ever a real option)

Anderson was coming on well at the end of last season but needs to prove consistancy early on this season to really cement a place imo

Which leaves Giggs and Carrick as central options (with Giggs really only capable of playing every other game or 1 in 3 really) - looks like Cleverley will play a lot (and need to grow /improve fast this season
