My word, firstly he got basic basic passes hopelessly wrong, secondly, everyone who wants to praise Gervinho is jumping all over his two goals as proof he'll be great already.
Its as simple as this, I really don't care how good a striker he is, why, because he'll be played on the wing if he's played, infact, Ryo has looked by FAR our best winger in preseason, and the biggest impact Gervinho is likely to have is stopping Ryo getting games, yay.
Chamakh played more on the wing than upfront since xmas, and thats barely any playing time as it is, Vela can't get a game, but when he does, its normally on the wing, Theo can't get a game upfront, Eduardo couldn't get a game upfront, Bendtner, etc, etc.
RVP is our starting striker, full stop, Gervinho might get games on the wing, therefore I care about how good he is on the wing. HE was passing at the level that made Denilson look competant.
I've also specifically said more than once, just not again in that post, that its one game, that 30 mins isn't much and probably shows he's not match fit, however the sheer ineptitude of his passing was worrying, match fit or not basic passing should still be pretty accurate.
If we were going to paly 4-4-2, if RVP might play wide and him upfront, 2 goals, great, but just as I wouldn't have wanted Traore to start at left back had he got two goals while being rubbish in defence, Gervinho will need to be a quality winger, to play on the wing, full stop, theres no other argument there.
I also posted in response to someone who said Gervinho showed a lot to his game, two good but easy finishes shows ONE PART of his game, the other parts were bad, it was only 30 mins of bad passing, but thats all I can judge him on. I notice no one cared to have a go at bigbeard for stating how great Gervinho was based on 30 mins.
Seriously, can anyone honestly say they think Gervinho will start more than a handful of games upfront ahead of RVP, if not, and he'll start mostly on the wing, if at all, is how he plays on the wing not more important? Would the UTd fans play Berbatov on the wing because he was top scorer last year, what about Torres, or Carroll, or, etc, etc, etc. I didn't say his goals were bad, I didn't say he would be a bad striker, I'm simply saying he was brought to be a WINGER at Arsenal, in 30 minutes he didn't show anything as a winger, thats not a good sign, its not a terrible sign, its pretty much nothing at the moment.
I seem to recall the exact same situation last year with Chamakh, with clueless idiots saying, free player, wooo, and me saying, 4 mil player to sit on the bench, where has he been for 6 months, except draining money out of the club? A very decent player, not quite good enough, but it doesn't matter, he doesn't ruddy play, had we bought in a WINGER on 4mil a year, that player might have started all 38 games and made a massive difference, or had we spent 4mil a year on a DM he might have started all year and made a difference, buying another player for a position we have so completely thoroughly covered, who won't play, isn't encouraging in any way at all.
