United won't be signing a Midfielder and I don't expect Gibson will be sold this season either.

We have some youngsters that are coming up that are rated very highly and I can see Fergie holding out until then and using Cleverly in the meantime to fill a spot.

While this is very true its surprising that pogba especially (as ravel morrison is reported to be in even more off pitch problems) wasn't included in tour squad

I would also feel a lot better about cm options if Fletch was recovering from this virus and fully fit

I don't think Pogba nor Morrison are in the plans for this season to feature enough to be taking them on the tour, the tour he has most likely been using to see how Carrick / Cleverly / Ando etc work together as that's going to be the players featuring most of this season.

Pogba or Morrison might head out on loan also which would be good for them.

I think it was decided that they would get enough game time playing in reserve games pre season, although obviously this would mean they wouldn't get to be playing with potential team mates.

I can't see Fergie willing to send Morrison out on loan though with his problems, more likely to want to keep a watchful eye over him

To be of acceptable quality though as a youth player to break into a top 4 midfield wouldn't you have to be of wilshire/mchechren standard though? Correct me if im wrong but we haven't had a young midfielder that good since 1994? I don't see ravel or cleverly being anywhere near the quality of those two...

Diarra looking to leave Madrid after failing to report in for training.

honestly i have no idea what position midfielder fergie wants but i think its fair to say we need a defensive one and attacking one too. so for him to come out in the press and say we aren't signing any more players and that he can't find the one he wants - well ill tell you i could find 10 better than fletcher and cleverly. and most would be less than 35 millions too...

It's ok, once Fletcher is fully fit it will be like having a new signing...

I'll be very disappointed in Ferguson if we go yet another season without addressing central midfield.

I dont think that fergie is saying that he cant find anyone better than what he has, he just wants the best and at the moment no one is selling world class midfielders.

He could buy a couple of £20m midfielders that wouldnt improve us that much as then be stuck with them for a number of years before funds are available again.

Nasri will be out of contract at the end of the season so it will be interesting to see what happens there

I know what you're saying but there are better central midfielders out there that can be signed who are better than Fletcher, Carrick, Anderson and Gibson. Anderson has been disappointing since his debut season, he showed promise but now I don't know what his role is exactly, he's the only one of the bunch who will run forwards with the ball, Gibson is far too inconsistent but possesses a decent shot if he can keep his head and learn when to shoot, Carrick has great passing when he wants to show it but these days it's side passes or back to defenders, Fletcher has a great engine but that's it. If you could combine all these attributes you'd have one good central midfielder.

Thats really the problem - we dont have two players that cover all the attributes required for a central midfield.

However i dont think signing Sneijder will solve all the issues either. As ive said before we would then require a super-duper defensive midfielder to play alongside him.

I would like to see the midfield strengthened but i dont want signings for the sake of signings either. There are many other things to consider other than how people thing a player will fit in on the pitch.

Gibson should just be sold, I can't believe we could contemplate going into another season with him in the team, paying him MONEY.

I'd rather we just gave him to a league 2 team for a happy meal or something, we'd save money and he'd be at his level.

This. We could have probably quite easily spunked 20m on Henderson or 10m on Adam but given Fergie pretty much confirmed our interest in Nasri and his comment that the types of players we are after aren't available to us (Sneijder) the two that went to Liverpool are quite a class below those two so what's the point in signing players that aren't better than what we already have?

Our transfer dealings are by no means done and dusted IMO, I think Fergie's just playing things down due to Inter being a pain to deal with.

I don't think that's the case, I think Sneijder could quite easily play in a two with Carrick or Fletcher. Carrick sits deep anyway and Fletcher buzzes about doing his defensive work.

When they were in their prime Keane wasn't a out and out defensive midfielder to compensate for Scholes' constant bursts into the box he was a box to box player like Fletch is now.

The only question mark about Sneijder is can he operate in a midfield 2 or does he need to be playing in the Rooney position? Given his ability though Sneijder would quite comfortably add to our midfield even if not played in his best position

All this negativity after we just spunked near 20 mill on a player who was in the last year of his contract. i really really hope he does the business otherwise it was a pointless transfer we are fine for wingers but less fine for cm's...sometimes i just don't see the logic. but then they say the lord moves in mysterious ways...

How? He'll go to Man City for £200k p/w and a 10m signing on bonus, football is hardly interesting any more.

I quite hope Nasri has a crap season and City/Utd just aren't interested anymore, then we throw him a lifeline on 30k a week. Arsenal seem to be hoping that he'll simply sign a few days after the transfer window is shut hoping that he'll realise he could get injured and City aren't interested, while he can take a 115k a week deal now.

Why we aren't taking the 20ish mil we could probably get and running I don't know. Attitude problems, doesn't want to be at Arsenal, begging him to stay is exactly what will make us look like a small club, not cashing in on a over inflated valuation of him.

Begging Pires, Henry, Cesc, RVP to stay, one thing, begging Nasri, or Hleb, or Rosicky to stay really just shows the level of player we are now desparate to keep. Hell the longer we keep him rather than just asking City for 20mil for him, the longer he'll play crap and people will start to really question how good he was last year, he's been woefully ineffective in preseason with Arsenal worse every single time we've swapped from Wilshire to Nasri running our central midfield, even with a significantly stronger squad on the pitch with Nasri than Wilshire.
