****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

All the people saying good things about Lite'ning Rom makes me want to try it, but I remembered I seem to have a dodgy Kernel version, BOKF3. :(

Ok this is really annoying me now, my SG2 doesn't connect to any wifi network properly.

Is there anything to fix this or what? Surely it should connect without any problem, even my old Nokia 5800 didn't have a single problem with connecting to wifi networks

Also the GPS doesn't seem to work properly either..using the navigation app that was already on there and google maps, it doesn't connect to the GPS and if it does the location is about a mile off.

Quite frustrating considering this is supposed to be the best phone on the market right now!

Help please!

Lol Cheers Wicksta, read so many threads about rooting I miss the obvious text :)

The phrase can't see the wood for the trees comes to mind :)

Haha yeah they are sometimes *too* descriptive.

I am on VilliamROM, seems to work really well - although my Email client seems to be running down the battery quickly using Exchange activesync, I've just upgraded the ROM from 2.1 to 2.3 though so I'll see if it's any better. I seem to remember seeing other people having the same problem on some ROMs and it being fixed so hopefully that will do it. Apart from that, no worries.

Sounds broken! What problems is it having? No IP address? Bad signal? I've had no problems with either SGS2s and quite a few WLANs at home at at work. Stock ROM? Which one?

It gets the IP address and the signal is "good". I've tried connecting to the router so many times today and it just doesn't connect to the internet.

I'm using the stock ROM (haven't updated or installed anything else).

After all that effort I went through to get that ROM on there and then you revert to standard :(

Just didn't like the feel of the ROM tbh, it felt very sluggish - Games weren't as smooth and they were choppy with quite a few pauses, was very annoying.

I do certainly appreciate the assistance though!

Cheers

Also, is there a way to get a list of all the apps I've downloaded and installed on the phone? And if possible is there a way to backup all these apps incase something happened to my phone. I cannot remember all the apps I've got!

android market > my apps :) the market will remember the apps you've paid for, but not everything you've installed. dont know about backing the apps up as its not something I've ever bothered with. I know titanium backup works but you need root for that. Somebody else will be able to help :)

With the Lite'ning ROM I didn't even have to mess about with the Kernel at all... Their is only one MD5 file and it puts on the Kernel it's self.

All working fine with Lite'ning ROM, everything seems OK. I didn't clear cache/wipe data in recovery mode though, should I do so and re-install the ROM? Will it matter?

If everything is working then nope :)

Anyone else dislike the feel of the home button? It just doesn't feel right now me. :p

Hmm, does anyone elses home button click loudly when you press it? Just seen an old post in this thread with a guy asking the same thing and everyone else said there's didnt make a clicking noise.

My contract (Nokia E72) is up next week - thinking about what to replace it with. 9058 posts in here! Are you guys insane?! Or more to the point, what's so special about the GS2?

Seems a bit pricey as I don't really want to spend more than £25 a month for 18 months with a free phone. That's not going to get me a GS2 is it? What's the best Android that budget would get me?

Read some professional reviews to get 90% of the info you need, saves up retyping the same stuff to everyone who comes in and asks the exact same question. :)

For the rest, it's very moddable and is just an incredibly competent all-round smartphone.
