Is he? Fair enough Lescott it is. Still dodgy :p

I cant believe they didn't give Boateng a chance after his injury, he was great at the WC. Richards, albeit dodgy could fill in against crap sides, Boyata is decent enough and I suppose Savic is the age of P Jones so he may well start a bit.

Wow, it's like all top football clubs! (Except Arsenal )

I'd say they have the strongest squad in the league, especially if you take into account the seemingly imminent signing of Aguero. It's easy to label them mercenaries, but if they represent mercenaries, it's hardly a bad trait! (Look at the effort Yaya Toure puts in, for example... he's been ridiculously influential, and no one's been able to question his motives since they've seen his performances.)

Only it isnt. Its a short term mentality.

MOST successful teams are build over a long period. For all the money Mourinho spent at Chelsea, when they won the league the relied heavily on the already established players in the team to see them through. Many players came and went with huge fees and little impact. Years later and its still the Lampards and Terrys who are the mainstay of the team.

A top team isnt just about having all the best players - a fact City havent quick sussed out yet so they bid for the players with the biggest names and over pay to make sure they get them. Yaya Toure has had a great season but he freely admitted he turned them down a number of times until the offer became so huge he had to say yes. That works when the player has the work ethic to still put a shift in a care about his performance but its by no means a given that he will.

A dressing room full of player all of whom signed just for the money and all of whom have huge egos because of said money does not naturally translate into success and a stable environment breed further success.

When he's rubbish this season it will be patently obvious :D

It's not opportunity he was lacking, it was ability. He needs to be a completely new player to have the impact needed this coming season. Maybe he will, but it's unlikely.

Nat, im clinging on to memories of fabregas in the old skyrocket and that no look pass, plus his goal blitz at the end of last season. he has the ability ti run more than 10 yards forward with the ball which gives him a USP compared to our other honkies.

Just one amendment. Silva will be playing more centrally, Balotelli will start every game he can because he's basically Mancini's son and despite the outbursts has played some outstanding games for us. Unclear on Savic but he's looked tidy in pre-season. I expect Lescott to command that position for the time being. The above is probably our most attacking first 11 though (With Yaya Toure playing as the attacking midfielder he has for pretty much the entire season :p)

For someone who was at Maine road for almost every game in the second division (and a good portion of the away days!), seeing a team sheet like that compared to what we had back then is truly outstanding.

I hope so then maybe I'll see what exactly the hype is all about

Looks like City could announce it later on today. The Community Shield is going to be an awesome match! :D

does it really count? reminding me of playing championship manger when you cheat and give yourself 1billion.... most of those players are purely there to grab as much cash as they can. they are not joining for any other reason and they don't give two hoots about the badge or the club

least with the Chelsea the money has somewhat slowed down or at least budgeted all be it they have cash there if need be.

It has?

In the last 12 months they've spent £100m+ on players and £20m+ changing managers, with little to no money coming in. Who knows how much more they're going to spend this summer and like the previous 12 months, they're not likely to bring much money back in through sales.

lol @ Balotelli starting every game he can

Was in reference to his injury record rather than his disciplinary one (I presume that was the joke?).

Yeah, because every player at every club plays for the badge  Give over. It's not how it works, and it's not something isolated to City. Not even remotely close. Not too close with your Chelsea comment either, and at least we're taking some of that money and putting it into the community as well as properly building for the future. As far as the benchmark for billionaires taking over football clubs goes, I'd say we were way beyond trying to live up to what Chelsea do, looks like the other way around to me.

Azza: Very doubtful Aguero will be playing in the community shield. He's just finished the Copa America, I think he'll be taking a much needed holiday.

Pastore will be leaving within hours Palermo's president has said!

to who? surely not city? are they buying every young Argentinian in order to keep tevez happy?

they seem to be getting better players, but have no chance in getting rid of the ones already on the payroll who simply aren't good enough.

How will these wages stack up when the new financial fair play rules go live? Surely they have to be inline with revenues?

£400,000 a week for Yaya and Sergio. Crazy money.

they are actually worth it to city, its all the other players, Bellamy, Balotelli, Adebayor, Milner, Bridge, SWP, RSC, Barry, etc that are the worrying ones.

I would rather pay yaya £250K a week than be paying 10 bench warmers a combined £1 million per week.

No its not, neither situation is good. City make little compared to the other clubs in the top 4 and yet pay way more in wages.

You need to reduce the wage bill massively or you need to start winning everything as well as increasing your fan base massively.

Selling your deadwood would still leave you with a wage bill that is too high.

neither situation is good, but 1 is definitely a lot better than the other.

paying your top player or one of them, who is a regular starter £250K a week is a lot better than paying 10 of your regular bench warmers / reserve players £1 million a week.

at least that 1 player on £250K is responsible for getting them into the top 4 and champions league, which in return brings in more money and respect, the 10 guys on the bench do nothing for the club except bring it down.

Yaya is worth the £250K a week, it's the bench warmers on £100K a week that arent worth it. Long term that £250K a week isnt viable, but city want to be the best, it's okay for now. In future it will come down, but for now they need to get rid of all the bench warmers.

paying your top players high wages is fine, but paying your dead wood high wages is definitely not.
