Cavani certainly looked quality last year but the reason no one came in for him was because that is the first time he has ever scored that many and so is a bit of a risk at the price Napoli would have wanted.
If he does it again then i am sure everyone will be in for him.

he was playing in an extremely poor side before, he now has a lot better players around him, so he has flourished, will certainly be interesting if he keeps scoring.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is to approach Lille for their 20-year-old Belgian attacking midfielder Eden Hazard.

The family and representatives of Arsenal target Juan Mata are in London to discuss the midfielder's £15m move from Valencia that could open the door for fellow Spain international Cesc Fabregas to be finally be sold to Barcelona.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are to be offered Real Madrid forward Karim Benzema for £25m as the Spanish club prepare a move for Manchester City forward Carlos Tevez.

Not the most believeable sources but still nice to be linked with good players.

Those three plus Samba. I think we stand a chance of winning. Lots.

Hell, get those four players and both Cesc and Samir can leave and the deals will be self financing nearly.

I think all of those would be pretty good signings for Arsenal, not sure how much truth is in them though.

Arsenal preparing to splash some cash due to the imminent departure of Cesc / Nasri?

Still need a left back and a goalkeeper though :p

Wojecech and Fabianski are great. Kos and the Verminator can cover at left back when Gibbs is injured. Link us with Jan Vertonghen and I will have a Tombstone/Honda style splurge.

I think the young Pole you had in goal at points last season looked pretty good, but besides him you need either a good solid back up or a new number one, the Polish kid is young and could be one for the future but can't help but think you need someone with a bit of experience to help that back four.

Also, while I don't doubt they could cover quite well at left back, if it were me I'd much rather have a natural left back that could stay fit, Gibbs can't do that and he's never convinced me going forward. I have no idea who you'd bring in mind, just saying :p

Also; would Wenger really bring in those two wider players? He doesn't play with much natural width (besides fullbacks) so would he not be looking for a replacement for in the middle?

Both keepers are Polish :p

As to left backs I would like a decent defensive left back to allow the left sided player a bit more freedom rather than having to cover. Leighton Baines has been top of my wishlist but meh.

Even if we lose Cesc and Samir we still have five central players in Wilshire, Ramsey, Diaby, Song and Arshavin.

I think while he's over rated Wilshire is your best centre midfielder of that lot :p

Ramsey looks good even after his leg injury, and Arshavin blows hot and cold (bloody good when he's on form though but always thought of him as a much more attacking midfielder) can't say I think too much of Song nor Diaby but there you go :p

Meh, the younger Polish keeper looks pretty handy (was he the guy that broke both his hands or something?) still think given the problems Arsenal had last season in defence they could do with an experienced keeper, with the younger Pole being back up, or have him first choice and bring in a slightly more solid back up. At times Fabbyanski was left looked wanting. Almunia has to go though.

Sheffield Wednesday update

Signed Julian Bennett on a free transfer

Brings our total in to three so far; Bennett, Prutton and Jones.

Also got Batth on loan again from Wolves :)

We've still got half a squad to replace and I'd like some strikers.

The Mata rumour is apparently gaining some legs.

Yeah that would be a good signing. If we signed him I would walk Nasri down to Man City and knock on the door and leave him there with an bill for £15m

Personally I don't think we need a goalie. Would be nice to have an experienced goalie as backup but I think we have three promising young goalies.

If we picked up someone like Samba or Cahill as well I think we would be in a much stronger position.

As far as LB Jenkinson plays there as well so we have cover.

Jenkinson and Gibbs? We're trying to win the PL, Gibbs is a joke defensively and clueless going forward and Jenkinson has done next to nothing to prove that he is good enough for the PL, at least not yet.

I'd rather get a proper LB in than a CB.

Not saying it is ideal but is it much worse than other teams. Both are young players who have had less than a season playing at the top consistently.

How has Gibbs done preseason so far?

Rubbish, gets caught up field on almost every single attack, mistakes, nothing to stand out going forwards. He's really never looked great at left back, he started off on the wing and seems to have been pushed back more because he wasn't a great winger than just because we needed another LB.

Gibbs/Sagna have been truly awful in preseason, Kos/Djourou/Squillaci pretty awful, Vermaelen has been epic. Jenkinson has looked surprisingly solid at right back, we've looked significantly worse defensively when he's gone off for Sagna, can tackle, more pace than you'd expect, quite strong, early impressions are good.

The idea of buying Benzema is laughable, he's on probably north of 130k a week, having done next to nothing to prove it, he seems to be starting with the "strong" side that Real are starting with in preseason and he's scoring. LIkewise Arsenal have RVP, Theo, Gervinho, Vela, Chamakh already, RVP starts, why would we get a guy in on massive wages to be backup to RVP, when we have about 6 people waiting to play the one position.

He's actually getting back to his best but, we can't afford him, don't have a position available for him, you don't spend 25mil and 130-150k a week on a guy who will sit on the bench.

Arsenals shocking injury record now seems to be affecting their targets! Apparently the boy Chamberlain at Southampton left their game on crutches last night.

That is impressive. Surprised wenger hasn't had any injuries lol

What happened to that deal? I thought we actually signed him at one point.

Yes i meant fernando cavenaghi of river plate.

Cavani is overhyped in ny view i don't see anything to make me think 50 or 70 million. Out of the lot id still go for lavezzi and hamsik. But you'll see that come champ league this season.
