Whilst I prefer and rate Aquilani higher than Meireles, Meireles was more than okay considering he played in positions he didn't like most if the time, also he there were stats after many matches where he made the most tackles in some matches(mind you I doubt it was many but he isn't the pussy he is labelled), I think he got that label after Rafael jumping two footed at him.

Aqualani scored 2 quality goals for us iirc, Pompey and that class one vs athleti. And was top assisted from January that year (when he basically started getting games) so he didn't really need to score when he was p holing the strings like he's doing in pre season.

I'd rather keep both this year and loan out shelvey, poulsen to retire and keep both and maybe shift raul on next year. Isn't he on cheap wages anyways?

Whilst i agree with most of that im still not convinced on him dont get me wrong Raul got us so great goals we needed, Regarding Shelvey i dont think he needs loaning just play him in the FA/Carling Cup, Every time we loan some one it goes bad.

Raul is on cheap but if i re-call right was inserted into his contract if met conditions could ask for more or something which started rumors that he is off.

On 31 May 2011, Paris Saint-Germain announced that Qatar Investment Authority bought a controlling 70% stake in the club from, now minority, shareholder Colony Capital, who retained 29% of the capital club.[17] Butler Capital Partners maintained their 1% share of the club while Association PSG held one share.[18]

Qatar poeple with lots of oil and monies by the sounds of it!

Meireles had some very good performances but there were just as many games where he was non-existent. I've mentioned before that I think both him and Maxi are players that when the team is playing well they're great but when we're not, the game can pass them by.

Even if we got rid of Poulsen and loaned out Shelvey, there's still not enough room to keep both Meireles and Aquilani. While I think Aquilani's a better player and I'd rather keep him than Meireles, the fact that Meireles can do a job on the right is an advantage for him; opportunities for either of them to play centrally will be limited with Gerrard, Lucas and Adam likely to be ahead of them in the CM pecking order and Suarez nailed on to play off the front. Anyway, it's very likely that Aquilani's going one way or another so this is all a bit pointless.

Regardless of whether Aquilani goes, if a decent offer comes in for Meireles I wouldn't be surprised if he's sold too. As above, he's not going to get many games as a CM or off the front and while he can do a job on the right, we'd be better of using the £10-15m that we'd get for him to sign a more natural wide player.

And as for Meireles wages/contract; firstly I very much doubt he's earning much less than £50k per week now and as far as I know there was nothing written into his contract regarding a pay increase. Purslow is reported to have verbally promised him that his contract would be reviewed at the end of the season.
