It hasn't really been picked up a lot in the mainstream media but things don't look too good at Newcastle.

Barton's been hinting at a lot of unrest behind the scenes for a while now and recently said on twitter that there will come a time when the players can tell the fans exactly what's going on without getting being fined by the club. Jose Enrique too spoke out against the club on twitter the other day, accusing the club of lying when they claimed he rejected a new deal. And now Kevin Nolan has given an interview in one of todays papers, accusing the club of forcing him out; he mentions how he shook hands on a new deal only to be offered something completely different to what was agreed.

mata rumours seem to hold some weight from the spurs camp. can't see him choosing us over arsenal though

Well the rumour is they are offering Valencia significantly more money, while Valencia have to accept an offer if its over the buy out clause and then its up to Mata where he goes, if Spurs offer say 5mil more and Mata wants to help out a debt ridden club he might "choose" to go with the bigger offer.

I put "choose" in air quotes because, it would no doubt end up with the club offering him part of the extra to persuade him. That still doesn't mean Mata would choose Spurs but, its possible. The real question is, if thats the case then would Arsenal at least have the chance to increase their offer to match Spurs, and if they did, would Wenger decide he didn't want to spend more(while throwing 20mil down the drain over a principle, for a player who has been one of our worst in preseason and useless for 8 months now).

Yes but theres a world of difference between a club choosing to cash in and get cheaper wage players and force players out(hardly new at any club) and treating the players actually badly day to day.

I also get the distinct impression that Barton thinks he's "above" Newcastle, as do maybe a couple other players, and think they are worth more than they are being offered.

Simple fact is Newcastle did pretty damn well last year, infact, excellently, especially without a striker for half the season. Yeah, they've got rid of players, they've bought others.

Its also worth pointing out that Carroll, Barton and Nolan tend to get themselves, errm, into trouble shall we say, and moving them on really isn't a terrible idea. Frankly how Barton can question anyone, ever, while he screwed over his clubs so badly by getting sent to jail. Of all the people I'll listen to, it won't be Barton and his jacked up opinion of his ex-convict self.

For all we know the "unrest" is simply the culture of going out and spit roasting girls, drinking Newcastle Brown Ale and beating the crap out of people is being stamped out, and they are getting rid of those types of players.

Who's been useless for 8 months?

He's barely scored or contributed since Xmas, iirc what, 8 of his 10 goals came before xmas in the first half of the season. How many times after Xmas was Nasri asked to step up when Cesc was out, only for us to be unable to create much.

Nasri had at best, 3 in form months where he was scoring, and even then, he wasn't playing well for the team, just inside the box.

how different is mata to modric, bale or lennon? doesn't make sense to me unless one of those 3 is pretty much sold as far as the board is concerned. could be levy dangling a carrot to chelsea in a 'look, i'm listening, i haven't walked away, infact i'm seeing what else is out there, £35m and modric can go' kind of appeal.

How does Nolan get himself into trouble?

From what I recall while Carroll was, on bail(?), and living with Nolan at the courts request, they had several massive 14 hour parties involving orgies. There was the whole thing of drugs being at the party but nothing about them taking any, and what kind of orgy would it be without at least some people on drugs :p

Meh, I don't really care about partying, or drinking, though he's supposed to be married, but considering Carroll's position, as really a friend and club captain, an all night boozing session, in the season to me suggests the kind of guy he is in all honesty.

I'm not saying he's a jail bird but, well, when you've got a guy in trouble with the courts, orgies, all night partying and loose women who take drugs, ignoring being club captain, is a really really bad idea, yet club captain Nolan didn't seem to think so.

He's seemingly available, and gets some goals, hence Harry's interested :p

Thing is for me, I have no issue if Harry thinks he's an upgrade to your wingers, and I think he is, then why not, sell Lennon, get someone better. From what I've seen he's mostly a left winger, but gets forward a lot and gets central a LOT. Don't forget that really Modric started off on the left and far more attacking then moved to a more supplying/central role. Great footballers can adapt and play ina bunch of places, average ones can't. Thats why Wilshire has looked better than Nasri in a Cesc style very attacking position and he's looked excellent as our defensive midfielder, hell, I don't think Nasri's brilliant but he wasn't bad as DM for a few games a couple seasons ago.

I wouldn't be too surprised if they wanted Mata to improve the team even if they kept Modric, but he could probably work out as a decent replacement.

Nolan is a excellent player, a good leader and always pops up for goals. I'm pleased that he's now at West Ham, him and Matt Taylor will do a good job for us.

Come on Fergie, get Sneijder. Sure, he may cost a few quid more than you'd like but he will be worth it. :(

I think it is the wage demands rather than the transfer fee that is the sticking point.

Diego wouldn't be a bad alternative and vastly cheaper, leaving some cash for January.

Fergie has since denied those comments that were published in the Daily Mail about giving him a take it or leave it offer, having said that though the author was the same man that broke the quotes from Fergie about Nasri going elsewhere 2 days before Fergie said the same in a press conference so who knows what's going on.

It's got to the point now where I'll be relatively happy just going into next season with Carrick, Anderson & Cleverley with the hope that Fletcher can regain his fitness and Giggs can carry on defying human evolution, I'm sure in 12 months time they'll be another flavour of the month anyway one that might not demand such high wages as well
