And ill just throw this out there to whoever mentioned a cole and dwight yorke. what happened when we were losing a cl final? Throw on plan c teddy sheringham. no he wasn't 6ft 5 but he was talklr than the others and offered a different problem to the opposition.

important saying that we don't have the same Ariel threat that we need to change the game when we are losing/playing a better team.

He's a better right winger than both SWP and Milner TBH.

Yes, but wingers are to Mancini as didgeridoos are to hamsters - utterly useless.

The guardian (quite reliable)
That reminds me, how did Bale's £30m move to Inter go this summer, anyway?

If journalists only wrote true, definite stories about football, there would be virtually nothing to read in the sports pages.

The first lot of players we bought eg under Hughes i will admit fit into the mercenaries category because we had no recent previous success nor ever been near the top 4 and so with our new wealth joined us over other clubs.

However now, the players we are signing now can see that we are going places. We qualified for the Champions League comfortably and even took 3rd from Arsenal. We also won the FA Cup.
There is also continued investment into the club so the players can see that this is not just a flash in the pan team. ADUG actually want to build a team and club that can compete for a long time.

tl;dr The players we are signing now aren't mercenaries and rather want to be part of something possibly history making.

When a team is chasing a game with minutes to go - particularly if its a one-off game like a CL final then its natural to throw everything forward as quickly as possible and in a desperate fashion. Thats does not reflect your footballing ideal or your normal tactic - its simply an attempt to rescues a specific stuation. You dont do it week in week out.

Berbatov plays quite deep and at times will slow the play down on the deck - not always ideal in that situation.

We may not have the tallest team but did Rooney not score something like 8 consecutive headers the season before last? Did Hernandez not score a header that no one could figure out how he actually did it against stoke last season and a potentially title winning header against Everton?

Also while i agree with what you said yesterday about us not being as imposing as previous years i wouldnt say it was a heading deficiency that cost us. How many silly defensive mistakes cost us? Not conceding against Fulham and Everton from late winning positions would have seen us even further clear - there were other examples of daft leads given away too. That is surely more of an issue that a percieved lack of tall forwards.

Speaking from past experience it is hard to attract the very top players to Manchester. Even with United at their peak players would rather be in London or other more glamourous European cities.

If Tevez hates Manchester why did he go to City?

Sergio Augero at Atletico Madrid has a genuine deserive to play from Manchester City ahead of the other clubs that were linked with him?

Both moved to be the highest paid players at the time.

Theres nothing wrong with that on one level and all footballers (and people in general) will move jobs for more cash but when you put a whole pile of players together with that same motivation it has the potential to lead to problems i think.

I dont know.

Well Aguero only had the other offer of Juventus who are no where near the top level in Serie A never mind in Europe atm. The wages there where reported to be bigger also but playing in the Prem/Champions league is more important. I am sure that big wages will make a difference but i think that players are now joining for the right reasons.

You also get to join one of the biggest clubs ever in world football up there with AC Milan, Barca and Real Madrid with a massive history. What have Man city done in the last 50 years compared to Utd?

Thats the point at Utd you're joining a massively long list of great players who achieved massive things, at City you get the chance to START that list with your name, and essentially live forever in history.

Who are some of the guys at Utd who won titles that no one even remembers or cares about, will the same be said of the first team to win the prem for City, no.

If you join UTd now you aren't going to be a all time great, you won't even be a Giggs, or Beckham, Keane, VDS, Bartez, Cole/yorke.

If guys come in and are the best player in a City winning team, you get the chance to be a legend like a George Best, etc, etc.

All things being equal(and ignoring the fact that I'm an Arsenal fan) I'd choose to join City and win their first title, than win Utd's 763rd. 1st is special, whatever number the next title Utd get is, just another title.

The money to buy those players will always be the legacy left not the players themselves.

In 100 years fans will not look back on the hero that is Nigel De Jong as being a City legend in the same way as they look back on the players from previous eras regardless of what is won.

These players are nothing more than a comodity to the club and fans, they are all largely interchangeable.

Fans will look back on a period in history when an enormous amount of cash was thrown at the club in order to achieve a set goal.

At that is exactly how I look at united as an Everton fan.

They wanted a player, say Dwight Yorke, Saha, Carrick, Rooney, Hargreaves etc they unsettled him with paper talk and threw money at it.

Lets be under no illusion that united have done the same but it doesn't seem so bad because the amount of years they have been doing it. In time once City have a stable base they will make fewer signings.

United have bought their way to the title many times. It's not like they aren't right up there for money spent. Although now they are suddenly a bit bitter that this scenario happens because city have more money.

It's not like united have continued to bring through world class young players since that period of time they keep banging on about. No instead other clubs bring them on and you throw money at the problem area.

Video going round of Fergie really ripping into Bob Cass, he was the one that published the 'take it or leave it' quotes from Fergie regarding Sneijder....

Ah what the he'll I'll link it here, you can't really hear the expletives :p

yes you can :p

Well said, A lot of united fans seem to forget their own teams heritage and truly how much they spent and where ;)

We take players and make them better. Its not often we "thrown money" at a quick fix. Players are brought in, made better and either sold on for (hopefully a profit) like Ronaldo or we (again hopefully) get a long period of service from them like Vidic, Evra, Rio. There are a few stumbles along the way of course but its a completely different approach. I dont think we tend to buy a number of £25m players in the summer then do it again and again and again every 6 months/year.

A tired old bully who thinks he can use the popularity and demand for united to control the press. A complete ****. Once he goes no one will be able to get away with the way he talks to people any longer.

I wouldn't be so sure, they think of Tevez as a City legend after only 2 years at the club, a large percentage of that being filled with constant whining and bitching ;)

We take players and make them better. .

You really don't. You take very good players and put them alongside other very good players. Still the best game I've seen rooney play for england was against turkey when he was an everton player.

He has barely improved for united he is just playing with far better players. Is he really playing better in Europe all these years on from his champions league debut?

 wow how have you come up with that tangent from that video? :/
