well if that Obertan rumour is true - at least Utd got their money back on a flop (I seem to remember him costing between £2 - £3m a couple of seasons ago) - maybe with a club not chasing for the title and with less media attention he can get a few games in and build up some experience......

Would still prefer Gibson to have gone first though (looks like we are stuck with him, with no one apart from Sunderland really showing any interest in him)

They are two seperate issues TBH.

Obertan needs to be removed from consideration for the first team after playing well in the reserves.

If we play well enough Gibson will be nothing more than a potential Regain advert in Ireland.

Forgot to mention. After the game this afternoon Roy Evans commented that 'he's been reliably informed by the club whilst out in Norway earlier' that there's still 2 or so deals yet to be completed for LFC.

Guessing LB and CB.

The press has always quoted him as saying he idolises Drogba, so I imagine he wants to go and play with/learn from him.

It's quite refreshing to see a player actually want to play for a club:

http://www.sporza.be/cm/sporza/videozone/MG_sportnieuws/MG_voetbal/1.1082868

Roughly translated as:

"The only day that my parents at home will see me cry, will be when I play here".

and

"It would be a dream come true when I play here, I can make it."

and

"Over here I want to play, and I will make it happen, you'll see."

It is frustrating but there's nothing we can do. If Wenger trusts our defence then they need to start repaying that faith, I have no confidence in Gibbs as our first choice left back and I think Wenger is being incredibly naive if he thinks that we can get by with Traore and Gibbs. The idea of Vermaelen playing left back is ridiculous, I would be looking at putting him there in an absolute emergency but ideally we should have replaced Clichy immediately. He'd easily be better than Gibbs but considering he's our best central defender it's an absolute joke to even mention it.

This season is gonna be make or break.

Yeah it certainly isn't looking good at the moment. We will be kicking off soon and the Fab and Nasri situation isn't being dealt with and we aren't anywhere nearer to signing anyone. Looks like another year down the pan if we start with our current squad minus Fab and Nasri.

On the plus, RVP scored again. If only we could rely on him starting every game.

Hopefully we will have a VERY busy transfer week next week. Even if we did it would have been nice for any new signings to get a few practice games in before kick off.

People seem to act like we always win as long as RVP plays, we lost more with him playing than without, he's an outstanding player, but he can't lead the line, nor lead the team.

Chamakh is good enough, Bendtner and Vela could be excellent, the way for Arsenal to improve, is to play 2 strikers rather than 1, not one of our strikers doesn't play better in a front two.

I wouldn't be surprised if we lose, Bendtner, Eboue, Nasri, Cesc next week, and frankly thats what should be a starting striker, starting right back, starting playmaker and a decent winger. To "improve" from that, we need to buy 4 separate players frankly.

What we should be doing is keeping all of those but Nasri, selling Diaby, Song, Denilson(I really hope we aren't paying ANY of his wages at all), Sagna, Traore, Squillaci, and bringing in 3-4 players, young, cheap, with potential to be very good, if they aren't GET RID of them rather than keep them for 6-7 years and try another batch.

Some ITK has got us down for Palacios Monday 9 Million fee 3 year deal.

Also meeting Bendtner some time next week, i dont see his ego allowing himself to play for us. Would be a really good player for us if we could pull that off but i suspect not.

The Gunners are expected to complete the signing of Southampton's teenage sensation Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in a £12m deal this week and remain in contention to sign defenders Chris Samba and Gary Cahill.
Full story: Daily Mirror

How many times have we seen these stories this summer. Better than nothing but not very good if we are losing who we think we are to gain them.

Yay, Theo mark 2, just what the club needs, well done Wenger. You've move from signing unknowns at 16-17 for next to nothing who turn out great, to signing English well known players at 16-17, for hyper inflated fee's, who turn out crap....... wooo.

Seriously, Young/Downing at 20mil are a flat out bargain compared to a possible 12 mil for someone who has never played a prem league game in his life.

Obertan to Newcastle apparently being completed Monday/Tuesday. We need a right winger and he seems quite good, certainly good enough for us! :p

Now just a striker and a LB if Enrique leaves, if him and Barton stay I will be quite confident of a top 10 finish. If they both leave and aren't replaced.... :(

Inter Milan coach Gian Piero Gasperini has confirmed the future of Wesley Sneijder should be decided next week.

The Dutch international playmaker has been heavily linked with a £35million move to Manchester United as they look to find a replacement for the retired Paul Scholes.

Red Devils chief executive David Gill had earlier stoked the fires of a potential deal by claiming United are looking to sign one more 'world-class' player ahead of the deadline.

The player himself and United boss Sir Alex Ferguson are more coy over a potential transfer, with Ferguson vehemently denying last week that a take-it-or-leave-it offer had been made to the 27-year-old.

Sneijder opened the scoring for the Serie A outfit in their 2-1 Italian Super Cup defeat to city rivals AC Milan in Beijing on Saturday and after the game Gasperini confirmed he would soon be holding discussions about the future of the former Ajax and Real Madrid player.

"As for the rumour of Sneijder leaving, we will talk about it next week," said the 53-year-old.

It has also been speculated that Manchester City are attempting to hijack United's move with a £30million-plus offer.

The question is, why do you want him, he hasn't played more than 25 games in the league in 3 seasons, he's scored 10 league goals, in the past 3 seasons, not each season, together, 4, 4 and 2, assists, 5, 6 and 2 over the same years.

He's not ultra prolific, he doesn't get that many assists, he's on a HUGE wage. He's on the kind of wage that Xavi, or Messi get, who bring you hugely more goals and assists. One of the most over rated players around, injury prone as it is, doesn't play a whole lot, and is only getting older.

Was prolific in his Ajax days(who isn't in Holland), but also get almost no assists back then. He's pretty much a ball hogger, takes loads of freekicks and rarely scores, is often lazy and has a nasty tackling/fouling/dirty streak in him.

meh, over 3 seasons you're basically looking at a 3-4 goal a season, 4-5 assists a season, 180k a week(after tax), 25 league game playing player....... 30mil + and the equivilent of 300-350k a week, madness. Messi, Ronaldo, Xavi, Eto'o, but a guy who doesn't score much, doesn't get many assists and hogs the ball a lot.

He had one excellent year in the Champs league, 11 games, 3 goals, 6 assists, and won the thing, he's had one other stand out year in the UCL with Ajax, with 4 goals in 5 games, and one outstanding 18 goal/31 game season for Ajax in the league, aside from that, a whole lot of nothing particularly impressive.

agree.

Good player but still living off the back of the last world cup. Modric would be a better signing or even giving Cleverly a good try out over him. You want a holding midfielder much more than a sneijder.

Waste of money ala Veron.

On another note no idea when Chelsea are after another striker with their strikeforce. Especially when they really lack creativity in midfield to supply their strikers.
