Of course it's a huge ask for Cleverly. Everything you are hearing about him from the interviews with ex pro's is that he has the maturity and conviction and desire to become a very good pro. Personally, I would play him with Fletcher as our two deep lying midfielders.

Maturity, conviction and desire can only get you so far though Loki. If you're going to make it at the very highest level then surely those things are a prerequisite and need to be coupled with a shed load of ability?

I have no doubt he'll make a very good career for himself but will he make it at Utd? The difference between being a very good pro and being first team player at Utd (and alternative to somebody like Sneijder) is huge.

I'd be very surprised if in 2 years Cleverley is holding down a regular first team spot at Utd.

Arsenal are set to complete £12m signing of midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain from Southampton.

The Gunners have pushed on with their pursuit of Bolton's Gary Cahill after Thomas Vermaelen was injured in Saturday's 2-1 friendly defeat by Benfica.

More talk about Chamberlain again. Would prefer the signing of Cahill though out of those two.

Still even if those came in, we have the possibility of Fab, Nasri, Bendtner and Eboue all leaving. And with Clichy and Denilson already gone our squad has taken a serious hit of players.

Yeah I know but the thing is he has ability. Look at it another way with our bretheren from the other side of the city at middleEastlands. Ballotelli, all the ability in the world but apparently no desire, conviction or discipline.

I am not disagreeing with your point and time will tell if he is genuinely good enough

Look at it another way. Cleverley is 21. Wilshire is 19. Is cleverley better than wilshire, if not then he is already behind the curve unless we are willing to accept second best in our midfield just because someone is from bradfords youth setup?

Maybe he isnt behind the curve. he could be better than Wilshire but my head says he just isnt.

but Wilshere is ridiculously good for 19, he is genuinely one of the best CMs in the prem already, comparing him solely to that is a tad harsh.

Yes and are you saying that we should or shouldn't try to.have the best midfielders in the country if we want to be the best team in the country? This attitude of oh he might not be the best but it doesn't matter, we'll just rely on van der saar or rooney won't cut it forever.

Arsenal have a habit of bringing through players stupidly early and them looking amazing for their age. Manu bring then through later and they end up just as good if not better.

Not saying Cleverley wil be better than Wilshire, though he could be, but don't take it against him because he is coming through later. SAF is always more cautious bringing through youth and gets them incrementally more experience rather than just tossing them in. In Cleverleys case I think it will work and he will go on to good things.

He could drive upto Carrington for a medical when he is here midweek for england vs holland , could even car pool with wazza and save abit of petrol money

I'm not as worried about Sniejder now as I think we can win things without him BUT I'd still very much like him as none of our midfielders are what you would call 'world class'. Cleverley could be, but we can't know that just yet.

Especially as he's up for leaving we might get him a bit cheaper etc. :p

That van der kraan guy on talk sport said sniejder has no problem taking a pay cut and he wants to play for united, not sure how good of sauce he is . Seems like inter want to sell but are trying to make out like they don't need to sell to get a inflated price and united want him but are trying to make out like they dont want him to see if inter lower their valuation to try sell him. I can see something happening befor the window closes probably a last day deal like berbatov , and surely a name like sniejder will sell loads merchandise and make allot of £ for the club

+1 (even though the CL is still beyond winning imo with the team Utd currently have) -s
