Could be a 'shop.

The entire points of the weapons and teargas is instil fear. Standing there with sticks and shields while the mob keep throwing missiles does nothing. Teargas will clear the mob and scatter, in an instant. Logistical nightmare regarding emergency services? as opposed to all those fires that stretches the fire and ambulance services? People affected by teargas would be capable of making their way to hospitals with no need for ambulance.

As for water cannon, a fire Engine would do pretty much the same thing anyway.

Yes, they need more numbers, but a million policeman just standing there won't do anything if they don't actually DO something.

And I really do hope you get over my style of photography, honestly, it makes zero sense. 1 - I don't see you post photos in the forum. 2 - if you are indeed a keen photographer, we respect of each other's work despite the disagreement, not hold a grudge (which is how you come across when you bring it up like this out of nowhere). But from what i've seen you don't even understand why I do what i do, sometimes under technical constraints that causes me to shoot at that aperture. Anyway, lets drop the pictures thing, it is way off topic.

You seem to be ignoring the fact that the escalation of 'weapons' would antagonise the protesters. It may force them home and that will be the end of it or it may strengthen their resolve and make this thing a whole lot worse. It's a gamble that we shouldn't rush to make. There are people far far more qualified than you and I that need to make these decisions. I'm trying to point out that it's a dangerous road to go down and it's not as simple as tossing a few cannisters and/or shooting a few people with rubber bullets.

We can't use fire engines. It's not safe. Unfortunately even in a riot we need to ensure reasonable force. A purpose made water cannon delivers its payload quite differently to a fire engine hose. A shame, but true. Again, it would need to be controlled by someone trained for such a use. We'd have to bring them in from NI or from another country. And whilst that isn't *that* much of an issue on the face of it, it's wrong to think it could quickly be deployed.

Like I said, I had no idea why you'd think I disliked you. I thought you may have felt I was insulting your work (which is usually amazing - just the food I dislike. Personal taste and all that!) with my comments and took it to heart. That doesn't seem to be the case and I can assure you that I have no negative view of you.
You just happen to be the first person to properly respond to my constant requests for a discussion on why we should use water cannon/tear gas/blah blah.
