You're wasting your time and wearing out your keyboard pointlessly. Sadly, the people who understand already agree with you and the rest will never change the way they think about it. Force fixes problems, yo.

You're probably right. I'm trying to show people how the use of force isn't an appropriate tactic at this time. People seem to think that a few coppers rushing a large, baying and angry mob and using tear gas will help. Though they haven't explained how or why it will help nor do they appreciate the risks associated with it.
It's a shame, I was hoping people on here would be more willing to see the bigger picture.

Yeah, I posted about that earlier, how good it was with that baton to his face. Just recorded it on my phone in front of the TV but missed the smackdown part. If I can manage to record it whenever they run it again, which might not be for another couple of hours, I'll put it on youtube.

I must have link!

I would have liked to have heard him say

"LOL, screw this, I'm getting the hell out of here" as a rope ladder dangled from a helicopter came into view and he disappears off into the distance cackling madly.

i wanted him to say "50000 police and they'll be using bullets"

it would be very likely that no-one would come out tonight to loot

So now there will be 16000 Policemen standing and letting idiots throw bricks at them?
Where's the deterrent? Different policy is needed, not just more numbers.

Appropriate police tactics are dependent on the numbers they can focus on the situation. 20 police trying to start a fight with a 100 looters is just going to end badly for everyone involved - the best they can do is stop the situation from escalating - but put 50 police in the same situation and they can control the situation and make arrests.

^This.

****** hell. Give the man a chance. What is wrong with all you people who let deep-seated hatreds of a political faction get in the way of any sort of reason. He said after the rioting is over they're going to come down hard on them. Why not see what they have in store before mouthing off?

Experience. It isn't a dig at a political party, all Lib-Lab-Con are soft on crime, always have been. Most people convicted of taking part in these riots will get soft sentences which don't punish or deter.

Surely they can only sentance them to what the law allows, which will no doubt be quite small sentances.

Violent disorder allows you to sentence for up to 5 years in prison, and they could charge pretty much everyone they arrest for this with that offence.

In relation to recent unrest in the capital, the prime-minister has raised the security level from "Miffed" to "Peeved." If things continue, security levels may be raised yet again to "Irritated" or even "A Bit Cross".

The UK has not been "A Bit Cross" since the blitz in 1940 when tea supplies all but ran out.

The rioters have been re-categorized from "Tiresome" to a "Bloody Nuisance". The last time the British issued a "Bloody Nuisance" warning level was during the great fire of 1666.

There was a soldier on the radio who done 9 tours in NI saying about water cannon and plastic bullets, basically said they didn't Molly coddle Irish hoods why should they molly coddle English hoods, and the met should have those tools there for use.

Yes but what are most of them likely to get in reality. A slap on the wrist fine or a few weeks in prison at most.

I really hope I'm wrong.
