No I can see them shooting someone, then the mob quietly disperses. Arms themselves and then continues rampaging killing any police they find. Good solution

It's a great idea to recall parliament, I mean they can all pile in and get paid to sleep and talk out their arses for a few hours.

No it's about protecting the police and ensuring that people respect the police. Clearly these thugs don't respect the police or fear confronting them. You don't charge a police officer if you think he is going to shoot you.

All the Water-Canons will do is push the kids away from vacant shops and into residential areas! I don't think large gangs of hyped up rascals running through residential areas is a good move for public safety!!

You can do the same but you're putting officers at risk and it's also a lot slower. Water cannons are used for quick, high-impact dispersal and can stop a running mob in its tracks - something thats hard to replicate with a line of officers.

It also has a huge psychological impact on would-be rioters if they know they could be facing water cannons not just some bobby with a nightstick.
