****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

Hmm, not sure how much it's worth putting on a custom ROM. I definitely want to OC it (with OCUV kernals), remove bloat ware (all the social crap) and root it.

Tbh, my idle time as shown in my screenshots is awesome, but when using the phone with any kind of decent usage amount, it goes down pretty quick, just a few hours. Others say they get great battery life with different firmware or different ROMs or a combination, but I've no idea if that means they get better battery life in usage or idle, or if their definition of great battery life is the same as I'm already getting, ie, maybe they were getting worse than me when they were on stock. Personally, I reckon I wouldn't see much difference if I changed anything. Unless someone can confirm that they use a particular ROM or firmware and when using their phone all day long with wifi, iplayer, games and surfing they end up with hardly any battery loss. Then I might be convinced to bother updating.

I've come to expect that if I use my phone a lot during the day that it's normal to charge it the same night, that's ok with me. The phone as it is now satisifies me in every way, everything works. I'm not bothered about customising it anymore, the novelty is over, and I enjoy the phone as it is. It's not broke so why fix it. :p

Strange, are you on a custom ROM?:(.

I'm on a standard ROM (KE7). I goto Settings > Motion, and turn it on, then goto "Tilt" and disable it, then come back out and disable motion as well. The Gallery still responds to tilts though

Not too fussed as it is probably just a bug. I need to upgrade to a newer ROM but haven't got round to it yet.

Use quickpic :)

Not an ideal solution, but its by far the best and fastest gallery app :)
I will when it bugs me enough. I rarely use the gallery application so it is not the end of the world, just a slight annoyance.

OK, following on from my battery usage issue above, I'm currently running LeoMar75 2.4 so thought I'd flash Litening 5 which I had been using until a few days ago. However, when I plugged my phone into USB, W7 tells me USB device is not recognised.

I uninstalled Kies and the Samsung driver, rebooted, downloaded the latest Kies. The software installed fine but I get a driver cannot be installed error at the end of the installation and the same USB device is not recognised error when plugging the phone in.

Anyone come across this before? The fact the error occurs as soon as Kies installs but before I've plugged my phone in suggests this is a Windows issue rather than the phone. The last time I plugged in using USB was last Saturday and it worked fine then.

Any ideas?

Anyone notice on their home button their seems to be a rectangle film covering it? Is it possible to pull this off or something because mine has a few marks and something that looks like an arched scratch on it.

You could peel it off but it'd start clicking..........

I had huge changes in battery life when running custom ROM's and kernals on my Desire, so I was hoping for more of the same here.

I peeled mine off no problem, assumed it was akin to the film that is on the screen

OK, think I've worked out the battery stat issue above. I think my phone's USB port is borked. Flashed VillainRom and after restarting my phone started vibrating randomly, couldn't work out why until I looked at the status bar. The battery icon was doing the charging animation even though it wasn't plugged in.

I turned the phone off, but I couldn't turn it back on as the large battery charging icon was showing, so again it still thought there was something plugged into the USB port. Basically I have to turn the phone upside down for it to not think there is something in the USB port. The phone was also getting very hot even when it was turned off and not plugged in.

I'll be phoning 3 in the morning but guess it will need to go back. My issue now is how do I get the 3 branded ROM onto my phone as my PC won't recognise the phone when I plug it in to the PC. Is there a way to flash it using CWM rather than ODIN?

ouch £36 a month! :D

Just looking at the 3mobile network and they are doing the galaxy S II for £35 a month 24month contract and unlimited internet.

Still though £35 a month is wowzaaa too much for me :p

They also do a 1gig internet option for £30 a month.

I'am probably looking for somewhere in the £25 a month margin.

I just wish somewhere would do a deal where you get lots of internet usage with low calls/texts because I really don't text and call a whole lot.

what do you mean ouch? he's only going to be paying £437 in total. If you went for £25 over 24 months you'd be paying £600!

best deal i've seen is at mobiles.co.uk. SGS2 on TalkMobile (Voda), £30 p/m, 400 mins, 1gb data, u/l texts, handset price £119. Total inc. £30 quidco = £449...

so Kreeeeeee's dial-a-phone deal with the now expired £70 quidco is pretty good!

Running VilainROM 2.4.2 now, I was actually on version 2.1 so quite a bit out of date running the KG1 modem and kernel.

This is KG6 and I also updated to the KG6 modem. The stock kernel on this VR version uses Ninphetamine kernel so if you were on CWM then you will lose the CWM app (although recovery will remain) so you can enter recovery via vol up+power+home at boot or you can restore the CWM app from the Titanium backup you DID create beforehand ;-)

ROM is running good though. Will monitor battery usage on KG6 and drop back to KG3 if battery is worse.

Also KG6 ROMs have 44.1KHz audio in the camcorder by default and slight performance improvements so no need to use a modded camera apk anymore. The audio is still mono but the quality is much better than previous stock based ROMs.

OK, I've spoken to Three and I need to return my phone so I need to get the Three firmware back on there. As my post above explains, my USB is broken so I can't use ODIN to do this. So does anyone know how I can restore using CWM?

Another idea I had was whether it would be possible to flash a nandroid backup of a fresh Three firmware install? If I could get hold of a backup, would this work?

Stop press, I've managed to get Odin to recognise my phone. So, now I need to flash the original Three firmware. I've looked over at XDA but don't seem to be able to find the package. Anyone know where I can find it?

Thanks

i tried using this 3g uk firmware but turns out its not uk version its from sweden/netherlands but my three phone has the carphone warehouse rom as stock

You sure you downloaded the right one? :p

I'm not saying you're wrong, because I havn't actually tried them, but the Swedish version is a different size to the UK one, the kernels however are the same :).

this is one reason why i don't flash custom firmware/roms, because if anything goes wrong with the phone and if the phone had a custom firmware/roms to start with, it maybe difficult to find it to flash back to it.

Bingo, works out at a great price if I include resale value in 12 months time and it lets me upgrade much sooner.

That other deal for £12 more for 100 more minutes and 500MB more data would have been nice though, shame I didn't spot it.

Hi,

I happen to have a small issue at hand with my Samsung Galaxy S2, It's either the phone itself or the Market playing up. I have no idea why :(

Trying to Download WidgetLocker and Riptide GP of the Market, Fails for some reason? I've deleted the cache and dalvik cache, All the same.. Ended up looking for APK links for the files, I've already paid for both.

Previously on Lightning ROM, Have never had this issue. Recently been trying out VillainRom 2.4.2 With Ninpo's Kernel and other goodness.

Did abit of research on google and all i can see is something to do with Google Talk?

hi guys,

getting my samsung s2 tomorrow.

I think i got a really good deal

£15month 400mins, unlimited text, 1gb internet and free galaxy s2 over 12 months.

I am coming from a htc desire with cyanogenmod. I understand that cyanogenmod is not stable yet for gs2. which rom is recommended and please can someone post a link for how to root.

and last questions is i am thinking to sell my desire, which is the best place to sell it, ebay, mazuma or cashconverters.
