For those who know football outside the Prem he is a known player and looks a very good prospect for the future. He was never going to be cheap, just like Wickham etc. Arsenal won't lose any money on him I doubt, probably be just another Walcott.

So the Guy who is 18 next week, I know footballers are slow, but 2 schools years back is some doing!

He wasn't half the fee Cesc will be either but unfortunately he was party to EPPT (English Premium Player Tax)

You have to question whether now is the right time to be spending not inconsiderable sums on potential though. Wenger won't spend a few more million to match the Everton evaluation of Jagielka, but is more than happy to shell out £10,000,000 on a player who is only potential, and in a position where we have more than adequate cover.

Also his comments at the conference this morning saying that he doesn't feel the need to bring in extra players is just laughable. Fabregas going or gone and Nasri all but gone as well and he isn't looking to strengthen? Not to mention the solid CB that our defence is crying out for and the left back that we should have immediately signed. Who cares about Gibbs' development, he couldn't push for a place in the first team when Clichy was here, what makes him worthy of the first choice left back slot now? It's ridiculous.

sorry but i disagree with your post. If fabregas is trying to help arsenal get good money from him, why isnt barcelona coughing up the 40m? 2 years ago fabregas was worth around 30m. today his being sold same amount? by your logic, fabregas HASNT helped us not one bit. hasnt helped us win any silverware for the last 2 years and hasnt helped arsenal gain more funds from him.

If he wanted to go 2 years ago we could have sold him to barcelona for the SAME price we are now offering him to barca now. so what have we gained from him signing 6 year contract? No trophies, no proper fee for him.

try and use just a little bit of logic, firstly, the numbers being talked about are 35mil with another 5-6mil depending on Barca's performance, which means, 40mil total and we're very likely to get that. So you're understating the fee by a large amount, its no where near the Nasri fee, and the Nasri fee is hyperinflated due to City being morons, nothing more or less, any other club in the world bidding for Nasri today would be bidding 10 as an absolute maximum.

Then look at the other things, Cesc is epic for Arsenal, in the previous two seasons he has been the difference between winning and not more than any other player in the team, he's been worth countless points, and we might have dropped outside the top 4 without him which would have cost us upwards of 40mil in the past two seasons. If he hadn't signed a contract, he could be leaving this summer for nothing, instead, he's likely leaving for 40mil, if you can't see the difference between that, I really can't add anything.

Killswitch sums up what most Arsenal fans feel, 7mil upfront on a player who likely won't play more than a handful of games for 2 years, but won't stump up 2-3mil extra to actually get the CB we need in.

Considering the club is FULL of striker/wingers already, even if AOC(too long typing out his name, he'll be AOC from now on, yes, this took longer, this time :p ) is fantastic, he'll be one of far too many players we have for the same position. We waste money on all these expensive potential youngsters, which frankly if we had 10 less youths on the book, and just bought AOC in 4 years as almost the finished product for 15mil, would have saved millions.

Hell, lets say AOC is great in, 4 years time, but is on 2mil a year until then, he'll have cost us 15mil minimum before he makes any difference for us anyway, so whats the point.

WE don't need AOC today, or in the next two years, we desparately need a CB, today, and we need to stop wasting money on Squillaci, who is really rivaling Grimandi for the worst player to play at CB award for us.

ANyway the latest press news is, Fabregas has been asked to stay in the UK till Sunday at least...... sounds to me like Wenger tried to pretend he wasn't leaving until after the Newcastle game, as if the players don't know he's going anyway, nor the fans, no one is unaware he's off. Whole thing is a joke, we're reduced to trying to delay bad news till after a game incase it hurts us, even though everyone knows its coming.

IF Barca had offered 40mil for Vermaelen and we were desparately trying to keep it quite till next week, maybe, but Fabregas, the cat's been out the bag for 4 years.

Does Pep actually do that much at Barcelona? I can imagine the players coaching themselves, deciding who to buy etc.

I kind of imagine him as a bit of a baby sitter with a bunch of really talented kids to look after. Point them in the right direction and off they go with little regard for the wishes of their minder.

RVP is the captain for tomorrows game, Wenger wouldn't comment on who would be captain for the season; presumably as it would've given the game away that Csec was on his way

YOu do wonder how much he does, he does get quite animated in direction during games but, its always a question of how good a manager is when they come in to a pretty much established side, and the team keep playing the same way they did before he got there. Is he just keeping things ticking over, or is he a great coach, likely won't know until he goes somewhere else.

Who is Nasri actually going to?

City are supposedly interested, but then, if it doesn't get done soon, they aren't limited by money or choice, they can go get someone else, while people who will overpay for Nasri when he'll be on a free next summer are, City, and no one else is dumb enough.

AOC will be really good in the future, watched him all season and been amazed at how good he's been for 17 in a professional league.

Just stupid to pay 15m for a player who just isn't prem first team material for a good few years. (though Wenger is clearly a Saints fan on this logic)
