Yeh but he wont be a striker for Arsenal he will go on the wing :p

Although sad this is very true. I am getting tired of him signing players to play in all positions. How about signing a midfielder to just play as a midfielder?

Next we will be signing wingers to play upfront lol

You have to laugh or you might cry

Jonny Evans has been given the no. 6 shirt vacated by Brown, so can assume he will be staying at United for the foreseeable.

There no real reason NOT to give a player a vacant squad number right now anyway unless it was being earmarked for a new signing? 1-11 doesnt really have much relevance now. Cesc and Nasri have been given numbers at Arsenal - i cant imagine sales are booming in the club shop!!

I'm confused who is Wenger going to try and bribe to stay by giving him the armband...Van Persie?

Certainly cheaper than Fergies method that cost 100k+ per week and if it gets a year or two's loyalty from a player before he sods off for millions then more managers should try it.

I feel for Arsenal fans tbh, again they are selling way too cheapily, sadly the wrong spanish club has come in for him. All the boyhood heroes stuff is tiresome.

LOL on the day Arsenal all but sold their two best midfielders they sign another striker :p

Oh and Robbie Keane is signing for the LA Galaxy

Seriously? Arsenal are going to have no players left at this rate!

Not really, he's a rightback primarily and we've just bought another rightback (Jenkinson). Even if we work to the assumption that Fabregas, Nasri, Eboue, Bendtner and Almunia were all sold, we'd still have a full squad:

Hawkes (Fabianski, Mannone)

Sagna (Jenkinson)
Gibbs (Traore)
Vermaelen (Djourou)
Koscielny (Squillacci, Miquel)

Frimpong (Song, Eastmond)
Wilshire (Diaby, Denilson on loan)
Ramsey (Rosicknote, Lansbury)

Arshavin (Chamberlain, Ryo)
Van Persie (Chamakh, Vela)
Gervinho (Walcott, Campbell)

So even if we sell FIVE players without buying anyone new, that's a 30 man squad plus additional youth if required (Shea, Afobe, Watt, Coquelin, Hoyte etc)

Not the strongest squad the club has ever had, but certainly should have enough numbers to field 11 plus 7 subs every game.

There is a part of me that wants to give Squillaci a chance. He was a pretty good defender for Lyon. Didn't they reach the CL semi's with him?

The other part says give him away and get in another CB on top of Mertesaker.

EDIT: @HangTime: Can't we recall Kyle Bartley too? Rangers seem to want him pretty bad so he can't be terrible.

EDIT2: All things considered I wouldn't be unhappy with Cahill/Samba/Jagielka/Mertesaker, Vertonghen and Mata/Shaktar Player.

Just been reading on the official Utd page, Fergie is promoting Pogba to 1st team squad which is good news - lets see how he does (cant be worse than gibson after all.....even if they play different positions)

Seeing the squad like that just confirms we need LB, CB and CM before the window closes. The other positions aren't fantastic, but not too shabby. Up front we've probably strengthened with Gervinho and Ryo coming in, although that will depend on how they bed in.

Think I'd still have Song before Frimpong, he still looks a bit too rough round the edges for regular PL games.

Pogba is built like a player who could become a first team player very quickly.

been hearing really promising things since he moved to Utd......2 seasons ago?.... from Le Havre, the senior squad needs young box to box players so Im really praying he gets some early opportunities this season (even if its just sub apps to start)

Seems my prediction of us not signing any central mids is ringing more & more true.

Boss set to promote Pogba

Sir Alex has revealed he is promoting Paul Pogba to the first-team squad after being impressed with the FA Youth Cup-winning midfielder.

The 18-year-old Frenchman replaced Paul Scholes in the Reds legend's testimonial against New York Cosmos and is in the manager's thoughts ahead of the new season. The youngsters at Old Trafford have ensured the manager is in a relaxed mood about his squad ahead of the transfer window closing at the end of the month.

"We've got Darren Fletcher to come back," explained Sir Alex. "Michael Carrick, who tends to develop more around November/December. And we’ve got a young boy Pogba who's showing great promise for us. He came on in a couple of games in terms of progress with the youth team, we’re quite positive about him.

"I mean if we hold Pogba back, what’s going to happen? He’s going to leave. You know, in a couple of years’ time when his contract is going to finish. So we have to give him the opportunity to see how he can do in the first-team and he’s got great ability, plus he’s got the physique and athleticism.

"He is a possibility so, when you take that roll call of players you know, I’m certainly not looking to add anybody. I’ve been saying that for weeks, but you’ve all been writing differently, you’ve all been writing about how I’m going to buy this one, I’m going to buy that one but we’ve said nothing, I’m carrying on with business."

When asked directly if everybody can forget about Wesley Sneijder arriving from Inter Milan, he replied: "You can forget about anyone you like! I’m happy with the young players we’ve got."

In terms of whether the likes of Tom Cleverley, Pogba, and possibly Ravel Morrison and Ryan Tunnicliffe, when he returns from Peterborough, can push the existing first-team midfielders, the manager is realistic about the situation.

"Well, I mean my intention is not to put pressure on anyone," he stressed. "My intention is to get the best team I can for United. There’s an emphasis on young players in the squad and there always has been.

"There’s a case where a young player comes through the ranks and that they can threaten anyone. Because if they have the ability and the temperament, there’s only one thing you can do and that’s play them.

"It happened with Ryan Giggs and Lee Sharpe, who was doing very well at the time, showing great promise and what happens? Ryan Giggs appears and Ryan Giggs gets the spot - it’s that horrible business of somebody's ability being better than yours."

I suspect Pogba will be getting CC & FA Cup runs and seeing how he goes in those before he's chucked into an EPL game.

Its spot on.

I said already i dont see where WS fits in. I KNOW it sounds like sour grapes but he makes little sense.

A lack of WS doesnt mean Darron Gibson. It means a faith in Cleverley and others including Pogba.

I dont know what the truth of the Sneijder deal was but it always seemed liked style over substance to me much as i embrace style!

With Nasri and Fab going, why would other players want to join arsenal? OK they have the CL this year, but selling their best players really shows lack of ambition. Gary Cahill is probably thinking twice - my money would be on him joining pool to be honest. We are certainly splashing the cash - maybe a player + cash deal might be done.

heres hoping anyway :p
