Yeah, but Sturridge is not even half as good as Sneijder and Everton would be paying Chelsea to do them a favour by developing their player. It's a joke imo and extremely short-sighted from Chelsea who are putting the development of one of their very few talented youngsters at stake over £3m.

Guessing there is some option to buy clause, so £3m loan fee and then £10m or something. Don't know about the wages, I've only seen the £3m bit around. I honestly can't see him getting in front of Lukaku now they've nearly got him in.

Oh and lolololol :D at Soccer AM Sneijder piece!

Sturridge and Lukaku will be competing for different positions: Lukaku is competing against Torres and Drogba for the central striking role. Sturridge is competing against Kalou and Anelka for the right-sided striking role. Hence why it's likely that Sturridge will get a fair bit of first team action this season.

Losing Ngog doesn't give us much cover for a striker. I don't think he is as bad as some make out, and i would rather keep him unless a replacement is lined up.

Just read about Pardew saying he wants to get rid of "our" bad news image

"It is how we set the tone, and the message has to change.

"The fans are used to bad news and players leaving - this is something we have to correct.

"The only way we can correct it is by success."

Only way it will change is by success? I think I stand for most Newcastle fans that if they stopped making **** decisions and bought people with the money that we got for players then they wouldnt have been bad news this year and fans would have been happy about making signings.

£3m + wages isn't actually that bad :\.

that is a good deal i reckon too, just think of all the horrible signings that have gone wrong and cost a lot more. did liverpool not sign keane for 1 year and lose £8 million in the process? £3m for a decent enough player for 1 year and im sure he must be on low wages too.

He's at chelsea. Their low wages are still going to be 50k+ I would imagine.
I think its bad having to pay £3million for a player.

If your team was going to buy a player for £3 million but only give him a one year contract people would start to ask questions about the deal. If you have to pay a fee for the player then it should only be in you can buy the player at the end of the loan for x amount of money. Sturridges case no more than an extra £10 million

LOL @ Tevez Arsenal rumours....gave me a right good giggle that did...aint gonna happen because one, he wants too much money and i cant see Arsenal even getting close to what he would want to play...secondly hes a mercenary in that he sticks around for a bit then wants out..hes got absolute zero loyalty to any club hes played for.

Its a nice dream i suppose to have him as he scores a lot of goals but i want players who will stick around...hell i want Wenger to toughen up our defence first and midfield if need be but definitely our defence...forget Tevez:p

Starting to panic a bit on strikers for Newcastle, Bendtner is the latest rumour, however he offers nothing different to Ba or Ameobi (Skill aside)

We need a pacey striker to work along side the big men

There was something the other day about Man Utd owing Cleverley's original club 10% of loan fees, and Utd offering £50,000 (therefore Utd generating at least £500,000 for his two loans at Wigan and whereever in the Championship previous to that) ......and I thought that figure was rediculously high

3m just for 1 season's loan fees is stupid money (no disrespect to Sturridge who looks like a decent player once he 's developed) - when you consider Chicharito cost less than £7m - even if the latter is one in a million (no pun intended)

If I was Chelsea I would put in a clause in the loan saying £1m upfront - with no more to pay if he plays x minutes /x games , and depending on injuries an extra £1m or so if he just sits on the bench etc all season then both clubs win and the player gets decent experience (and maybe a buy out clause next summer -£1m / £2m or whatever is paid)

I know even though Everton is a reasonably small club compared to some but their income / turnover is still pretty healthy, so maybe Chelsea should expect a £1m or so - but thats just stupid imo

edit - wages could be a sticky point of course, I guess Everton could offer £30k-£40k /week if pushed but Chelsea would probably need to contribute the rest (which of course might not suit them, but surely anything that they arent paying must be a blessing this late in the transfer window.....even if loans arent so restricted, they need to know where their players are going to be, so anything should help)

At least swapping him for nasri we would be getting like for like lol

It's better than spending £8.2m on someone such as Elmander, then having him walk away on a free after three years (so £2.7m/year + wages).

£3m per year + wages is better than £2.7m + wages?

A £3m loan fee seems a bit steep but then again we got £2m from Villa for Carson the othre year.

id love dos santos at united

i also think anderson will have a good year. i think anderson is just as good as modric, and if he was given the same game time playing for tottenham, wed all be singing his praises

What have you been smoking - cuz I could really do with some!!!

When Anderson has a good game, he can be excellent no doubt about it, but he is NO WHERE near the consistancy of Modric, and even if he pulls it out this season, he will still need to do it for a few more years before being that good.

Im hoping he does have a good year, I really am - but dont go overboard lol :)

Because they're not tied in. Getting Sturridge in for a year, as a known quantity, is better than gambling three year's worth of money on someone who's just going to be ****, for a club with Everton's finances.

With Everton's finances, they can't afford to pay £3m on loan fees though. If they're going to spend £3m they need to be signing somebody permanently.

See this is the thing, I don't think Modric is that much better than Anderson. He's a good player, yes, but he also has two years on Anderson and Anderson has certainly shown enough to suggest he could easily reach or surpass Modric's level within two years. That's why I think the numbers being quoted to sign Modric are insane, but if Chelsea want to do it then so be it. He's a £25m player at best.
