** Summer Transfer Window 2011/12 Season Rumours/Signings **

so I guess Maureen was bs'ing agian about wanting to keep him at RM - no surprise there then lol

See this is the thing, I don't think Modric is that much better than Anderson. He's a good player, yes, but he also has two years on Anderson and Anderson has certainly shown enough to suggest he could easily reach or surpass Modric's level within two years. That's why I think the numbers being quoted to sign Modric are insane, but if Chelsea want to do it then so be it. He's a £25m player at best.

I dont disagree with a word you have said - the talent IS there, but he hasnt shown it consistantly yet. How much is that consistancy worth...... well I couldnt even hazard a guess, but I think its fair to say that if Modric wanted ot move to Utd, approx 1/2 of the transfer cost could come from the sale of Anderson which wouldnt make it that expensive anyway.

Saying that Modric doesnt want to move to Manchester currently anyway.....so it makes no difference at all.

Given his performances at the end of last season especially I think its fair to say Utd / SAF / Gill are doing the right thing currently, as Anderson was doing very well in a reasonably small window of the season, but he needs to ignore the nightclubs, stay fit and healthy and concerntrate on his game and get that consistancy (which will hopefully come if he gets a decent run of games without any injury) .....but I think its also fair to say there is still a ? over his head a little bit.

He needs to really prove himself this season though if he wants to stay at Utd though (another off field issue and I wouldnt be surprised to see SAF wipe his hands and say "enough is enough")

Modric cost £16.5m, he has gone on to show he could play for any team in the world and you think Spurs would sell for £25m? Think again.

Always thought he would be around the £40m mark IF he scored more goals, he can control a game and do his job brilliantly, and what he is asked to do there is no question he is one of the best (if not THE best ) in the EPL, but to be in the really top notch price wize goals would have to be a core to his game, which they just arent

£30 - £35m at max imo (even with 3+ years on his contract, which will be what it is when /if Utd go after him next summer, if current personell dont work out)

It's true he doesn't score enough, but he isn't an all out attacking midfielder, he's an industrious box to box player with great dribbling and passing.

He currently has 5 years on his contract and won't go for less than £35m and probably more like £40m.

I'd have been happy with £35m this Summer after he spoke up about wanting to leave.

another factor (whether Spurs board /fans like it or not) is the Cesc transfer, Im sorry but any other club would be mad to agree to a fee (a lot) more than what Barca are paying

In my mind the fact that Barca can use Fab only wanting to move to them to decrease the buying price, is balanced out by lack of goals on Modric's price - so they should go for roughly the same (at the same point in their contracts as it were)

My reasoning is thus,

1. They need someone to get goals.
2. They can't afford to buy anyone who can get enough goals (Elmander was £8m, Alves was £12m... both being ****).
3. Loaning someone is the viable option (in terms of getting a striker in).

That would be nothing more than a quick fix though. If he fails they've wasted £3m and if he is successful they lose him in a year, and are back to square one. Everton need to sell one or both of Rodwell or Fellaini and bring in 3 or 4 decent if not spectacular players.

The problem is this season, they need a goal scorer.

And what happens next summer?

They have no money whatsoever and their only hope to raise any, to improve the squad, is to sell one of their better players.

Everton can't afford to spend £3m on a loan fee just because it doesn't make financial sense but also because they simply don't have £3m.

consistency comes with a run of games which i dont think anderson has been given the chance yet due to injuries/team selection. as i said, if he played the same number of games as modric and for tottenham, he too would be worth 30mil with everyone sniffing around.

i think andersons game is very similar to modric, both can play the short pass game and have an eye for the long pass too. both come and collect the ball and can shield it and run with it. also im not sure of modrics age, but if he is 2 years older, than its fair to say that anderson is potentially better.

this will be a big season for him and i expect him to do well if he is given the chance

They can't afford to get relegated either.

that arsenal midfield and attack could be very promising if given the time to develop and understand each other with a run of game without tinkering. the defence and keeper is questionable though. arshavin needs to be given a free role behind vp to flourish i think

Selling them won't give them the funds to buy a striker, though. That's the problem.

I assume you mean if they sold Rodwell (for example) they'd have to replace him before signing a striker? If so, they'd still have Cahil, Arteta, Fellaini and even Heitinga that can fill in midfield.

I know they dont have that much rolling in (and rightfully what they do have is spent on their own players rather than loans), but come on Im sure they do actually have £3m (apart from anything else didnt they get near enough £10m for where they finished in the EPL last season, at a guess)?

I have to admit the way I see the issue with Rodwell, was that because he had an average at best season last time out (I think mainly thruough injury) they probably woudnt get anything like what he was worth last summer (would be very lucky to get Jones money let alone the extra ~£3m or so for Henderson) - so is it worth selling him from such a cash strapped club.....

difficult one to judge I would suggest

Just got back in.

Can I just say, its not going to be too hard for Young and Nani to get three times as many assists and as Gerbils if thats the kind of performance we can expect from him.

Can we not just close Nick's account now and spare us all the agony of his posts till I win this bet?
