I'm not expecting us to compete for the title but I think we'll still be top four, Fabregas is ridiculously talented but we've lost good players before without replacing them like for like. The joys of being managed by Wenger.
I'd suggest reading the list, we could deal with losing, I dunno, Vieira, because we had Pires, Henry, Sol, Ashley Cole, Lauren(I'm bad at remember times, I can't be sure who was in the squad when he left tbh), probably Gilberto, Cesc, etc, etc, etc. Vieira to Cesc was an improvement to be honest.
We have rarely till our last cup win, lost players without replacing them with equal or better quality, sometimes, as with Vieira/Cesc, we got Cesc and Gilberto before Vieira left. As for 6 years ago, that hasn't been true, we lost Pires and his replacement was, Theo, Nasri maybe, we lost Freddie for Hleb basically.
Theres only so many times you can downgrade players in every position before it costs you. We haven't coped with losing top players without replacing them, it started 6 years ago........ we've been worse every year, with the squad getting weaker and weaker. Rather than selling Vieira after bringing in Cesc, we're selling Vieira with Ramsey likely to step into the 3rd central mid spot, Cesc was an upgrade, I like Ramsey, but he's a massive massive downgrade.
at the fact that we'd lose both Frimpong AND Song during that period. So basically be without a defensive mid.
