With the nights getting shorter, what else can I do to try to maintain the fitness I have built up this year since the clocks changed. Will have to start riding straight away after working instead of after tea, but when its mid winter its dark by 4!

I'll be able to ride at least one day at the weekends, but I normally get a few shorter rides in after work just to keep my legs spinning over and my backside like leather.

Got caught out tonight and it is very dark under the trees with no street lights out in the country on access tracks. Lots of nasty holes and ruts that are almost invisible too, don't want to become a cropper!

get some decent lights go in the dark:p. i hate the short days in the winter.

I have two weeks holiday saved, but I don't think taking Wednesdays off for nearly three months so I can go riding mid week would go down well at work!

Sold my Juicy 3's on within a day of advertising them, still super impressed with the stopping power and control of the Elixirs compared! :)

There seems to be a lot of cack talked about regarding lights, I ride an hour max in the evening, either 5, 7.5 or 10 miles depending on time/weather so the battery would only need to last that long if it was rechargable, but as said there is no artificial light, and the longest route has a short section on road, so would need to be sufficiently bright.

aye i bought some so called bike lights they cost me near enough £100 and they broke within three months and they weren't that great, bought torches with cree leds and mounts, mounted one on the handlebar and one on my helmet and jobs a good'un ,plenty of brightness and a decent battery life of just over an hour.

I wasn't as impressed by this as I was his last video, but that's only because his last video was so incredible! I enjoyed the other vids too, especially the free-running one.

it was a very good program and some well made films. Also most of them shot using D-SLR's rather than video cameras!!

Right, decision time chaps, which of these two:

Lapierre Zesty 214 or Canyon Nerve AM 7.0

The Canyon has by far the better spec but is £200 more, however still a bargain for what you get. However, every Zesty rider I speak to says it's the best bike they've ever ridden (even though this is the base model, I can upgrade bits as I go where needed).

Thoughts?

Guys

Going to get a bike on one of these ride to work schemes through the company I work for. What’s the best bike for a grand ? I’m going to be using the bike for off road riding for the moment in the local common etc, not going to be using it on road really and i i do it will only be riding to work which is only a few miles down the road. I’ve been looking at specialized but really dont know a lot about bikes.

Cheers

no one :eek::confused:

The Camber is a lot of bike for a grand. Sure, the spec is mostly entry level but since you're fairly new to biking I can't see that this would be an issue.

There are some that would say you should kick off with a hardtail when you're first starting out and if you're only riding your local common then you won't need much more than this, but if you plan on going further afield and taking things a bit more seriously then I'd opt for the Camber.

I've got a Canyon Nerve AM 7.0 and without a doubt its a fantastic bike, excellent build quality, top of the range components, very light weight and a really well designed frame, you can pedal up hill not far off like a hard tail. But you have to deal with buying direct from the german factory, which can take a good month to receive from when you placed your order, and if some thing is not right or missing you can expect to wait a good 2 weeks before anything is sorted out.

I love lapierres and kinda wish I got one instead, if not just for the peace of mind I can go to where I got it from and sort the problem out face to face.

A Lapierre gets my vote.

No question - The Zesty 314 :)

I have been pondering a Zesty for some time, but the spec on the Canyon is hard to look past and it's a ton cheaper. I can't help but be wary of what Juggy says too though, with there being no support in the UK should something go wrong. Hmmmmm... decisions decisions....
