I think he's a "marginally" better player then Sandro and he's got experience too.

How much did they get for Palacios? That's if he's gone to Stoke? :o

Diarra is good enough for Spurs. He's not good enough for anyone going for the title though, hence Arsenal, Chelsea and Madrid getting rid.

Experience of what? Sitting on the bench at Arsenal, Chelsea and Real? He's not a terrible player but he's not great either. I'd say that he was slighty better than Sandro defensively but Sandro was the better footballer.

And I don't think Palacios has gone yet.

I understand bringing him in for ~10 million if they've shipped Palacios out, not if they've still got him.

That's what he'd be doing though wouldn't he? He'd be sitting in front of the back four and if he's better at it then Sandro why play Sandro there?

I think Sandro is a pretty good player, he's adapted well, he's got a really good pass / vision on him. I'm not sure I see him as a kind of sit in front of the back four type player, he's a bit more flairy (if that makes sense and is a word :o) He's got a bit more attacking threat with him.

How often will Spurs need a player to exclusively sit in front of the back 4 though? If you had money to burn (and you wouldn't then sign Diarra) then I can understand signing Diarra as an addition to the squad, to play in the games against the bigger sides when you need an out and out defensive midfielder.

Sandro can play a bit but I wouldn't think he and Diarra would be a natural CM pairing if that's what you're suggesting. It would only be the bigger games where you may play 3 in the middle to sure things up that I could see those 2 both playing in.

Agree on the second part, I can could see him playing as the holding player in a three.

Nah, wasn't pointing out you'd play them together, but just that Spurs need to do better against the top sides so his defensive work could be helpful in those games. He's happy to just sit and that's not something I see many of the other centre midfielders doing.

I fully understand signing him if you've lost Palacios but not if Spurs keep him.

If I remember correctly, he's a big Benitez fan.

:p

For sure. Seriously though this is the irritating question people always ask.

What top class manager could replace Wenger up to 2006, none, which top class manager could replace Wenger now...... question should really be what middle table manager wouldn't do a better job.

Honestly, I don't know who should take the job, I don't know who is available and who would take the job. I wouldn't be against Hughes, he likes expansive attacking football, City before Mancini took over, every game was pretty much amazing to watch. I don't know if he's good enough, don't know how many transfers he was in control of as quite a few players sucked and quite a few are the reason City are pretty damn good at the moment. He did a great job at Fulham aswell.

I don't really care about the name, or reputation of manager or player, just that they do the job well. Hiddink I think would play attacking football but sort out the defence.

All I know is Wenger as he is now and has been for 5 years, isn't doing anywhere near a good job, the team is now screwed, but we've been getting worse every year, this is just the year that broke the camels back. I've been so pee'd off at Wenger because I saw this coming every day for 5 years, the point where it all starts to fall apart. Where we end up losing champs league, where we drop out of the top four, and honestly the way he's left the team so far, we could fall far short of there aswell.

Seriously, name one half sane manager who wouldn't have rested Cesc before that cup final, I can't think of the last thing he got right. Vermaelen, but then he gets Vermaelen, and freezes out Toure, then gets rid of Djourou. One step forward, 2 steps back, then Verm got injured and we were completely boned. What we should have had, was Toure and Gallas left as "cover" and Djourou/Kos as worst case scenario backup plan.

I just do not understand why Wenger has not spent any cash, when the rethoric we have been feed for at least 3 years is "we have money and im not scared to spend it".

Its all lies!

How can Wenger be so blind to see we need to bring in players.

We've neede a CB for years now!

Whilst other teams build and at least try to fill in gaps oin their squad, Wenger has let the Arsernal squad thin out, and we are now relying on youth, which against the billions of City and Chelse will get you nowwhere.

Having seen Frimpong play today, I definetly agree that the boy is another gem, up there with wiltshire, but he is not ready to start for the Arsenal, especially when the legue is so competitive.

The problem is this, we nuture and rely on youth (lack of money??) but when they reach the age of 24ish they dicide that they are fed up of not winning things and then force a transfer.

So we lose players we nuture from youth right at their prime time in their career.

There is something going on at Arsenal we or the media are not aware of.

Maybe Arsenal do not have as much money as they say they do.

Why would a 'Great' manager like wenger allow their best players to leave? Pursue blindly and rely on solely youth to build a successfull football club?

Not plug gaps in the squad such as a CB when it is glaringly obvious we so need it.

Also, why do we pursue with our formation! Its crap.

Robin Van Persie, is totally being wasted as a lone striker!

I would change the formation imediatly to 442, sign at the very least a CB, and possibly a striker (Even get Adebayour back)!

The rest - a nasri replacement and a possible cesc replacement, I do not know, but one of our issues is the formation.

I am really craving at this monent in time for Arsenal to go back to old ways. I want to see us play less pretty football, and become abit more steely, hard and gritty. (Where we cant win, we draw, kind of thing)

Bring in some experienced players go back to basics.

Only problem is this. For years Wenger has been spinning the same excuses.

Why have these issues not been sorted before the start of the season!

I hope we sing Mertersacker or Cahall, although I see it far more likely if we do sign anyone it would be Scott Dann. Younger and cheaper. - The Arsenal way.

And Arshaving! What is wrong with him. He is not the same plyer we bought from Saint Petersberg! Is he out of position?

Wenger needs to sort this mess out.

I love wenger, he is a great manager, but just maybe it is time for someone to come in with fresh ideas.

A bit like at liverpool. They brought in a British manager someone with the club close to his heart. What has he done? He has aggressivly sought to close the gaps in the first team and liverpool squad.

Can Arsene not do the same?

Even Ray Parlour could do a better job than Wenger!

What game were people watching that Frimpong was good? He started, he fouled, he went off, where was the good bit inbetween. Frimpong and Wilshire in the same sentence is frankly, blasphemy. He got very very little right. Balls forward that were overhit, consistantly fouling people for no reason, in stupid positions, IE little to no danger or in a stupidly dangerous place to concede a freekick and he kept on after getting a yellow just to make certain we were down to ten.

Sorry but he got nothing right today, at all. He plays in a way that almost every game he would play. He did improve, the first 35 minutes he barely did anything right, he passed very very poorly, defensively useless, he improved and his passing got a tad better. He ran the ball forward, but tripped himself up twice, sure we got freekicks, neither were freekicks in a million years, ref mistakes don't make him great. There isn't a single hint from Frimpong of anything but being a hothead, even worse than Song.

Song has been lucky for 3 years, that seems to be running out and Frimpong seems even more clumsy and foul happy.

Does no one remember Gilberto, someone who could defend brilliantly but could also pass, shoot, score, touch of vision, played the ball forward quickly. Yaya Toure as a DM at Barca, you can be a great footballer, and great defensively without just fouling everyone.

Flipping hell what is it with Arsenal fans and walls of text, double spaced no less

I dunno but it's make me wish club threads were allowed because there's not really transfer news in here any more it's just:

WALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTarsenalWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXTWALLOTEXT.

All the time.

Finding any posts about transfer news is a rarity, in a transfer news thread.

EDIT: There was something that happened on the Caf where there were two separate threads. One for discussion, and one for posting the news and gossip. It's much better because you can go in one to see the news and then go and see the discussion. Rather than trying to pick your way through the WALLOTEXT.

Fee agreed for Diarra.

11.5m Euros

Source: Beeb

IF you keep Modric then a brilliant signing for Spurs, and a much better 2 man pairing than any of your current options imo. Sandro could go on to be a very good player but at this moment in time is still an unknown quantity.

The problem with arsenal is that they still think there is a 'top 4', with the same teams taking it turns who is 1st, 2nd etc, except liverpool, we never 1st lol. Theres 5-6 teams going for 4 places up top, not spending isn't an option anymore.

Apparently Arsenal have had a bid rejected for M'Vila, he's a defensive midfielder isn't he?

Meh, ultimately, I don't trust the judgement of a guy who thought Denilson, Song, Frimpong are good DM's, to go out and buy a really quality DM now.

Hence my want to get rid of Wenger. If he thought Denilson was world class in that position........ what exactly is he looking for in a new one, Song without the fouling, I don't even think theres a word to describe Song without the fouling, not because its difficult to find the right word, theres just nothing else to his game, at all. :p

Diarra really would be a great buy, and 11mil, a steal...... would he come back to play under Wenger, I really don't think he would, get a new manager in and he just might, but its too late frankly :(

If you aren't willing to research a player before effectively slagging him off, I don't think you should comment.

M'vila could be a very good player for Arsenal! Much more creative than the standard Defensive Mid, imo.

I'd love to know what season DM's hate for Wenger first reared it's ugly head, I can imagine him wanting Wenger sacked the minute Arsenal lost their 49 match unbeaten run :p
