That's a fair post to be fair, plenty of United fans lambasted Fergie for going 4-5-1 during Keane's later years (coincidentally the same time Arsenal also started playing that way)

What are you on about, Keane left in 2005 and Arsenal were playing 4-4-2 in the years leading up to that (midfield of Pires, Ljungberg, Vieira, Gilberto with Henry and Bergkamp/Reyes up front). In fact aside from the odd game here and there I can't remember 4-5-1 ever being a long-term favoured formation for the club... maybe you could argue our current 4-3-3 is a 4-5-1, but even that didn't start until 2009.

Only a few clubs will be able to afford Ade wages, and of those few clubs around Europe I doubt any really need/want him.

Although Spurs like the look of him, you cant have one player on 170k and the likes of Bale, Modric, VDV etc on nowhere near that amount. Only way he will be a Spurs player is if it is a loan from City with them paying halve his wages.

To be fair - if Ade goes on a free, Spurs are "freeing up" £10 - 15m , which over a four year deal , even at the minimum of £10m, is approx £50k a week on top of the wages they would normally be prepared to offer. This is just a potential rationalising point from Spurs point of view to any players who could complain

While this is still a cut on his current wages, he could easily be on over £100k/week (depending on the transfer fee, but as he was only signed by City two seasons ago that fee would normally be pretty large)

I seem to recall Bale signing a mega- contract relatively recently, so while he probably isnt on that kind of money, I wouldnt be surprised if he is on 60k /week or something similar

Diarra would probably have to take a similar cut in wages if not more so (given relative tax codes in the different countries) yet he is meant to be imminently arriving also

Sky Sports New reporting that the Mata to Chelsea deal is pretty much done now. Expected to be announced next week.

Just Modric left for Chelsea to sign; if we get Modric as well this could be a very good season indeed :).

Well the first time I remember Arsenal playing 4-5-1 was the 2004 FA Cup final when Arsenal were well and truly battered for 90 minutes and that was Veira's last game, I cant remember Arsenal playing 4-4-2 much after that it, it certainly wasn't as late as 2009 when he adopted the (4-5-1/4-3-3) formation full time

I'd want £40m for Modric. We took the gamble spending £16m on him, he wasn't a cheap signing, he was virtually a club record signing. He has since proved he's a world class player, Premiership proven and has big game CL experience.

Chelsea have taken the **** with their derisory offers purely aimed at unsettling him and our squad. Everyone knows the opening offers were too low, so make them pay or they don't get him.

£40m and not a penny less Mr.Russianovich thank you please :D

It worked that day too ;)

I've noticed that too. He does come up with some crazy stuff but he does speak some sense too. I'm nowhere near as anti-Wenger as DM though, the man has been absolutely fantastic for the club, just because we're going through some (relatively) bad times doesn't mean he should be sacked. He has lost it a little bit though I think, he needs a better number 2 than Pat Rice who just seems like a complete yes man. Someone needs to tell Arsene that such and such player isn't going to make it, or that he needs to try a different formation, or different tactics or whatever. Since David Dein left he's made questionable signings at best as well, I mean we could have had Jagielka for an extra few million, Wenger refused to match the valuation and then went and spent £10,000,000+ on a clone of Walcott. :/ If David was still at the club he would have sorted out the transfer and we wouldn't have been in the situation today of having to rely on an 18 year old, or however old Ignasi Miquel is.

+1...as much as i hate seeing what DM writes, some of it does make sense.

Ive pretty much thought the same as you mate, since Dein left we havent been the same...we havent made the signings that will win us trophies and in the past few yrs we have lost most of our major players without really replacing them. Dein leaving us was a huge loss because from what i understand he was the guy who signed the players and made it happen.

I dont really want to get on the bandwagon of Wenger out but its getting harder to not feel that way...i just do not understand why Wenger wont buy some decent players instead of these relatively unknown players...we have until the 31st to make some signings but so far i see us linked with certain players but nothing. Prime example is Mata, who has now signed for Chelsea, which is bloody brilliant for us because Wenger couldnt get his finger out of his arse and make it happen. Its the same with Cahill, Samba and Jagielka...nothing is happening there as of yet.

Im just hoping that the 2nd leg against Udinese we pull through and win...a 1 goal lead is not enough i dont think...mind u it doesnt help that most of our players are injured...its a joke really.

I think we'll be OK against Udinese, but I fear next Sunday. Asking a bunch of kids to play against Newcastle and what was an average Liverpool side yesterday is one thing. Asking them to hold their own against the league champions who have strengthened over the summer is another ball game altogether. Could be embarrassing.

Nothing more on Nasri? Strange how that died out so quickly. I wonder if he asked for too much money or people are thinking they only have to wait until January and they get him for free.
