** Summer Transfer Window 2011/12 Season Rumours/Signings **

It does seem odd that we dont just sell Berbatov

It makes perfect sense playing Welbeck now just to see whether he's ready for the first team or if he needs another loan before the window closes but based on his performances thus far he's probably now played himself into being 3rd choice with the opportunities he's been given so that now leaves Berbatov as 4th choice :/

It's not like we need to keep him around for experience sake as we've still got Owen on the books.

The club said earlier in the summer that they've got the option to extend his deal for a further year so unless things change surely the only thing left to happen with him is that we execute that and sell him next year thus still get a fee for him.

Is it a clause that both sides have to agree to execute or just the club? Because I can't see Berb wanting to stay around if he remains 4th choice this year.

Times & Telegraph both reporting Liverpool interest in Sebastian Coates. Won Best Young player at the Copa America - Superb player! Hope it comes through.

12+million + 100k off the wage bill isn't to be sniffed at. I like him and would like to keep him, just not as 4th choice. It's a unilateral agreement btw. United can activate it, not him.

I still kind of think of Owen as a Liverpool player, simply because that was where he was at his best.

Maybe it's just Liverpool fans that won't remember him as an ex-Liverpool player :/

Saw a few reports earlier today; seems to be gathering a bit of momentum now Soto's left.

I've heard a lot of good things about him but haven't seen a great deal of him. I believe he kept Godin (who I have seen and rate very highly) out of the Uruguay side during the Copa America so he's got to be doing something right.

edit: Tony Evans says there is an outside chance that Bellamy could return too. Bellamy's a reasonable player and in an ideal world we wouldn't have sold him when we did but I'm not too sure about having another firey character in the dressing room. Him, Carroll and Suarez could end up literally fighting for their place in the side.

No idea, the whole situation is very cloak and dagger I just cant believe we'd let the club record signing leave on a free transfer

I read an article the other night saying it was a 1 way clause and only Utd could activate it.
So has Arry started bidding for every striker on the planet yet?

No but 'Arry said they tried to buy Young, Downing and Jones (there was probably another 15 players but I gave up reading at that point) but they couldn't do anything 'because of the wages the big sides play, we can't pay that sort of money'.

Eh? I doubt Young, Downing and Jones (and to be honest most of Liverpool's / United's signings this summer) are on stupid wages.

'Arry making excuses again.

Tbf, I suspect Downing and certainly Young now earn far more than any Spurs player is earning.

However, just like with all the strikers in January, I'm not sure how serious Spurs' interest really was. A Spud friend on mine seems to think that Redknapp/Spurs are making noises they're interested in these players simply to appease the fans.

The amazing thing is we still haven't shipped Diouf or Macheda out, so we currently have 7 strikers

Not to mention flipping Gibson...

Come on Rovers - you know you want Gibson really (crosses everything)

Dont forget this -slightly wierd imo- one sided extension clause in Berba's contract, that Utd can extend it by a further year....what hasnt been mentioned is that at which point this has to be done by....but I guess currently he could stil have 2 years left on his current deal (if the club want this of course)

One sided extensions are fairly normal in pro sports contracts. I seem to recall hearing that Lewis Hamilton has a similar agreement in his contract with McLaren .

It wouldn't make sense for the player to be able to activate the clause unless certain trigger were met would it?
Imagine you are a club and a player you have has such an agreement that they can activate. They are out of form, difficult to work with, long term injured or whatever. The player could just extend their own deal by another year and get a pay packet and force the club to pay out if they wanted shot.

Players are just employees at the end of the day and the company isn't going to give that kind of option to its staff.

Well its rare in football terms - or certainly how Gill seemed to describe it a week or so ago

Hoping Coates joins Liverpool. Saw him play in Copa America after switching on to perv over Suarez and he really stood out. Same cliche applys.. Can he adapt to the EPL?

When people talk about adapting to the Premier League, they're usually referring to the physical nature of the game over here. I don't think too many South American CB's will worry about that ;)

The lad's a bit of a monster too. I can't see the likes of Kevin Davies causing him too much concern.
