Fulham squad size decreases even more..Simon Davies out for up to 4-6 months :(. Our full first team squad is now 20 players, 16 of them fit...2 long term injuries, 2 injured, 3 new players and 1 just back from a longish injury. Gonna be an interesting next few days transfer wise...

Could be a big loss for Newcastle, they didn't win a single game in the last half of last season without Barton.

hopefully the likes of fulham stoke birmingham will be shafted with commiments to the euoropa cup and be below newcastle by xmas. wasnt very impressed last night tbh watching marveux and cabaye but sammy ameobi could be a revelation as hes taken 20mins to score unlike nile ranger ...

AFAIK Barton was on a very similar wage, perhaps even more(i've heard 85k) at Newcastle, him, Nolan(probably) and Enrique(Owen, Smith, Geremi, etc) were on absolutely retarded wages.

Enrique said if you noticed that Pardew said they had offered him a FANTASTIC deal, and Enrique said that was a lie, but honestly I took that to mean, like Nolan and Barton he was offered a deal with a significant paycut, and that it wasn't fantastic.

Thats why Newcastle is happy to lose them if they refuse to sign for a "reasonable" wage. QPR caved like idiots, in a year Barton wouldn't have a contract and would have no chance of getting over 50k, they really are idiots for giving him a 4 year deal on that kind of wage, but thats why Newcastle/City are letting people go on free's, so clubs can match the current wages of those players.

Modric isn't exactly young and Barton isn't an OAP yet, but I'd fully expect Modric to be on a higher wage by the time he's 28.

Wages are getting ridiculous, Messi is still stupidly young and is on quarter of a mil a week, what are the clubs going to be offering in another 3-4 seasons for the next contract? Could Barca refuse to offer Messi more than what he's on now, Messi decide to see out his contract and get half a mil a week at City or something mental?

I wonder how much Rooney will want the next time he hands in a transfer request?

That's one of the things I've never quite got about Messi, that he apparently loves Barca so much (and I've never seen him linked with a move elsewhere) but is being paid such a ridiculous amount of money per week. I think Barca shot themselves in the foot signing Ibrahimovic on mega-wages and were basically forced to hand it to Messi too since I believe he signed a new contract around the same time.

Wenger on SSN saying that they did not offer £6mill to Bolton...so looks like someone is lying lol:p...

It was, from the start 6 mil with 4mil in addon's, that is significantly higher in comparison if not actual value, as in that overall is 66% higher. But of course this is one of Wenger's little things, considering every deal like its full value with addons even if theres smeg all chance of them being forfilled. International appearances, cups, prem league wins as addons maybe, then Bolton would be getting 6mil and not a penny more :p

10mil upfront with the potential for a few million more sounds a lot more realistic. Why Wengers ****** around with days to go and a freaking critical game on Sunday, a game we've got almost no one fit/not banned for and absolutely don't want to be thrashed badly in, I really don't know.

Make a 13-14mil in total offer, get him signed, play him against Utd, even if it was in as DM.

Given Barton's wages, does that mean Fernandes might be willing to fund a late buying spree for Warnock?

Well if you look at it as saving a 6mil transfer fee, thats about 1.5mil a year over 4 years, or 30k a week they basically put from transfer fee into his wages. Not "cheap" but not exactly throwing cash around like a mad man.

Thats the thing, in most career's you make more as you get older, Zidane, Beckham, Henry hitting "big" wages for the time but only towards the ends of their career's, with Messi/Rooney/Yaya Toure/Tevez/Ronaldo already on that kind of money, what are they going to want in their next contracts, and will any of the clubs refuse to pay and in doing so, open up some transfers you might never have thought would have happened. Messi and Ronaldo to City in 4 years time, 1mil a week each, :p

Oh no, by itself it's not a big amount, but the point was that before Fernandes took over, Ecclestone and Briatore weren't letting poor Colin spend a single dime at QPR, and you can bet they probably wouldn't have funded Barton's signing. I'm not saying they're going to go out and spend £50m on someone, but I think you could expect to see a few players finally come in to the club now.

A free, a loan, and likely a cheap midfielder.

I can't argue with the money paid, but yeah, I'm not exactly ecstatic with the players we've brought in either.

I know a lot around here like SP - whether its just because he is British or not is neither here nor there, but Surely Spurs can aim higher than him for a midfield general to get you back into the CL?

Its just a bit meh (not unlike Ade it has to be said), and Spurs surely cant be short of a bob or two

Spurs simply can't afford the wages of the players needed to push for a realistic challange for top four spot. Wages appears to be a stumbling block for the Diarra signing who is rumoured to want 100k a week.

Once one player is on high wages the likes of Bale, Modric, VDV will be knocking on the door for a pay rise, and it soon adds up.

The likes of Rooney has really never been the problem as far as wages are concerned.

Premium players at the top clubs should earn the most. Its when lesser clubs pay unsustainable wages to lesser players that the problems start. As a Leeds fan you should know that, your chairmans goldfish has a bigger transfer fee than most PL players at one point. Seth Johnsons grandkids will be thanking Leeds in years to come when they have enough money not to have to work based on his wages!!
