****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

Can someone clarify what a kernel is?

I am running 2.6.35.11-ninphetamine-2.1.1+ninpo@titan #22

FW - Batista70 3.7.2 - XXKH3

Should i change the Kernel?

ninphetamine-2.1.1+ninpo@titan #22 I found this kernel to be just fine. It is the one you are running now :)

What Is A Kernel?
The central component of most operating systems. Its responsibilities include managing the system’s resources (the communication between hardware and software components) and can provide the lowest-level abstraction layer for resources (especially memory, processors, and I/O devices)

Hi guys,

I am concluding that this odd screen-staying-on-issue is likely hardware related.

What's the best procedure for getting my tinkered with phone replaced?

I have had iPhones for the past couple of years and those have always been a doddle.

I obviously need to reflash it to Vodafone FW. Do I need to reset this flash/download counter on the odin screen?

Will Vodafone swap it out or send off for repair? Chances are it'll be no fault found as the fault doesn't always occur.

TIA.

Hold on, are you the same Intratech as the XDA one o.O? #Curious

Anyone on KH3 get the KH5 update? I've not but I'd like to know what KH5 has and if I will lose my root access ...

Guilty. KH5 will be pushed to XW devices not XX.:p
Updating the firmware will always lose root permission, just have to re-root.

The screen tweaks alone look very appealing. Will install on my Leomar Revolution ROM tonight.

That Kernel looks good might see what happens if I try & flash it to my 3.7.2 batista rom. I already have ninphetamine-2.1.2 installed on it. so shouldn't be a problem to go back.

[EDIT-: T29 works fine but breaks boot animation on Batista 3.72 I will leave it for a week or so & see how it goes though]

No problems with it yet, seems stable and fast as advertised but you will get the yellow exclamation on the boot screen as you're flashing the kernel via Odin so be sure to have chainfire's workaround to hand or your USB jig. I used the jig as it's so easy it hurts :p

still being on ke7, whats the best route to getting up to date without losing any settings?I am rooted but a stock firmware otherwise. I don't want to lose any of the social integration stuff like the custom non-sense Roms caused on my desire, so think a stock Samsung Rom with root will be the best bet?

what radio etc will I need these days? Also, what improvements have been made for Me to look forward to?

cheers

Tom.

I do need to get around to buying a jig, The exclamation mark doesn't really bother me though really only see it every now & again. Did you flash through odin? Cause I just flashed it through CWM & everything is fine :)

Any of the custom ROMs will keep social integration, ones that chop them out have flashable update packs to put them back. The only ROMs that don't have such things are AOSP based ones, so Cyanogen, Oxygen and DevNull. All other ROMs are based on Samsung sources so keep all the features of a stock ROM but add tweaks all over.

If you're installing a custom ROM then radio/kernel etc will usually get flashed anyway but some ROMs won't touch the radio leaving that update to you but It's probably best updating the radio to the ROM/kernel version so they all match up anyway. Again, simply flash via Odin or CWM recovery.

Check out ROMs like LIte'ning, Batista70, Leomar's Revolution (what I'm using at the moment) and also Modaco ROM. Leomar's has more in the way of customisations that you can apply via the built in kitchen app. Quite a few themes and tweaks, stuff like browser user agent switcher setting, home button wake disable, call recording addon for the phone app, better camcorder quality, volume down hardware shutter button etc etc.

Batista 3.7.2 is great!

Battery issues have been resolved and it is very sexy in use.

How do I turn off the notifications that link to his blog?
