****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

Currently CM7 is not usable daily as a fully featured modern smartphone OS because:

No HD camera

No Samsung Dive support (other services available via the Market but you have to pay a subscription for them to get less features and Samsung's mapping accuracy is way better, accurate to within 1-2 metres).

Phone is rooted now :) and decided to apply villain rom as my first custom rom. Just to check before I completely mess something up...

- Ive run a backup on Titanium and copied it to my pc.
- Run backup in clockworkmod recovery- does this need copying to pc?
- next stage is wipedata/factory reset?

after that I guess I flash the rom using clockworkmod and then restore using that and titanium?

Cheers

You don't need to copy the Nandroid to PC, no.

Factory reset/wipe data
Wipe Dalvik Cache
Flash new ROM
(Optionally flash theme)
(Optionally flash overclocked/undervolted kernal)

I've pretty much tried majority of the rom's and kernels out there. VillainRom has always been a favorite of mine and given good battery life with the ninphetamine kernel. At the moment I'm going through cognition 1.5.1 with latest speedmod T38 kernel and getting excellent results. Only had 4% battery drain for the past hour with screen on time of an hour as well. Will calibrate battery and properly test tomorrow.

I've deleted all Samsung bloatware as well and usually keep my settings the same when testing roms and kernels.

EDIT: Now that battery is calibrated, in real life usage, 20% drain has lasted 5 hours with screen on time of an hour. Will leave it on idle while I'm out and see how well this kernel can idle.

What's your Quadrant score chaps? Any of you with diffferent roms, firmware or overclocks getting noticeably higher results?
Here's mine on stock rom, 2.3.3. no overclock. It usually takes running the bench a couple or three times to get the best score. 3491 is I think my highest.

If I got one of these on three, will it be stacked out with three's bloatware?

I like the look of three's all you can eat data package compared to t-mobile unlimited but with fair use. Nice cash back deals on at the moment as well.

^^ any clues anyone? I was hoping to order this today on the one plan, but not if I have to faff about and root it just to remove the three branding/bloatware and sim lock.

The camera quality comparison between stock and hacked videos have been updated thanks to my dad's S2 arriving today:

Stock:

Hacked (Potatoman's version):

A very clear difference!

Also I notice my dad's phone has a slightly blue tint to it compared to mine at the same brightness settings. Pic here - Must be manufacturing differences surely as I didn't think they made different versions of SAMOLED+ screens?

In person mine looks more natural whereas his looks slightly more blue biased. Although it is new so maybe this will settle over time? I don't know if mine was blue when new as well as I didn't have another S2 to compare with :p
