HP Pre 3 released

So basically, you've just got a new toy and have universally panned BBOS, iOS and Android?

Hilarious! :D

Maybe you should read the "stuff" from beginning to end. Pretty sure I mentioned my expansive knowledge of all things smartphone related

Now go quote more "stuff" from the others who are enjoying their phones in this thread for more hilarity ;)

Okay then sparky, what makes it a better touch experience than an iPod touch, Desire HD and BlackBerry Torch?

I'm interested.

The actual touch experience. The responsiveness to gestures, the speed of response and accuracy/sensitivity. The keyboard is very nice too, I've never been able to use the bb keyboards due to the size/height of the keys. The Pre 3 keys have been, I believe, a steeper profile (sure there's an easier way of saying that) which makes centering your thumb/finger on each one so much easier than the BB's I've experienced.

Does seem a real shame they've bailed on these phones as once the software was tweaked enough to satisfy the more fussy users amongst us it would've been a decent seller at full price.

That better for you youngster? :p

I'm really not sure how you've come to that conclusion but fair enough.

There's just no need (when you know very little as you said) to start dragging up comparisons with other things you know nothing about, it's a bit pointless.

Just post your thoughts and what you like about it, instead of claiming it to be better than other things when really, you don't know.

Still on your soapbox Robbo? :p I certainly prefer it over iOS4, Gingerbread and NoDo.

The card based multitasking and gesture area is the best small screen UI around.

Shame I don't like the pre qwerty format :o:(

Soapbox? I've got no problem with people liking it at all, I even like it.

My problem is with people that post things like "I know nothing about this, but it's much nicer than X, Y and Z".

Oh, and the obligatory "my friend with an X said so too".

Funny how everyone's 'friends' always prefer what they've just bought. Imaginary friends perhaps. :D

Oh my friends are imaginary? That explains it :(

Why didn't you just say you didn't believe me in the first place? Much easier than just being a rude ### ;)

For a moment there I thought you genuinely believed me when I gave my experience of other smart/phones/devices to position my happy bunny post appropriately when compared to the "experts". I have tried to get my imaginary friends to register on these forums, they at least pretend to read them, without success so far but if they were real I can assure you they do agree with my thoughts on the device in question.

I'm not being rude to you and I'm not calling you a liar. I'm just pointing out that it might be better if people left out the strange (and usually uninformed) comparisons when it comes to these things, that's all.

Where did you get it from anyway, and what did it cost you? If it was a cheap one then that is hugely in favour of the Pre3 on all fronts ;)

Oh it was a cheapy ;) (£108 via that mobiles site on a 12mth contract 9mths free by redemption, which my mate (not imaginary) took out , in short a you scratch my back I scratch yours deal as I got him a 32gb TP at the same time as I got my own and sold to him at cost). He didn't want the phone (incidentally he is the iphone4 owner).

The only reason I mentioned my lack of wide ranging experience, I have access to a Desire/BB Torch/Iphone4 (my own ipod touch 4g) each of which I've had a few plays with and I do like them all, not so much the Torch, and those phone owners have had a play with my Pre 3 (they are all long term smartphone users), was an attempt to avoid responses like your initial one (so I failed miserably).
It's all very well having highly experienced users posting opinions but they're not as much use to the less experienced users such as myself who like to read opinions from both ends of the spectrum.

...but this is the official X thread! He's in the right place to express any love towards a certain letter in the alphabet.

Just like in the Y forum where X and Z are rubbish by comparison!

:D

No worries. Glad you're pleased with it.

One thing I both love and hate about it is the symmetry of its design: the LED at the bottom is the same shape and size as the speaker slit at the top. I love to look at it, but it's often caused me to pick it up the wrong way up:p It's an eminently gropable phone as well, most other touchscreen phone I've seen seems more designed to be looked at than held (especially things like the Nokia X7 with its angular corners), but the Pre is sweet and curvy.

So I take it the pre 3 isn't selling at the ultra cheap rate anymore? Might consider one anyway, Im literally in love with my pre 2 (however now with shatters screen). Can't believe more people don't use these, so much more of a pleasant user experience than iOS/android.

I'm torn between getting one of these pre 3s and an android phone - the Acer Liquid metal looks very nice, especially at £140 when its back in stock. The pre3 on the other hand, I can get the £50 cashback and my mum will give me £50 for the sim, meaning the phone and accessories (including touchstone) will be £152... oh and I don't have to wait until next month to get it. Anyone able to help me decide?

The things I would use my phone for are mainly listening to music, a little bit of surfing now and again when the laptops not around. GPS tracking (for when on the run/bike) and navigation (when lost on the bike) seems to be the big hurdle so far. This is something I would want a smartphone for. Is there any decent GPS software available for the pre3? I would also like to export trip data to use on other cycling software on my laptop.

Having used WebOS on the Touchpad, I do prefer it over Android, but Android is fine to use as well. I don't care so much for having lots of space, I need about 2-3GB for music at the absolute maximum. Offline GPS apps might be a bit of a worry though mightn't they, if theres only around 6GBs available on the Pre3? Battery life may also be a concern, but having a touchstone might ease things a little.

I'm really stuck! Someone help me decide! Should I just keep using my 3310?

Last I checked mobiles.co.uk still had that 12-month contract with 9 months free that I got, meaning the phone was effectively £108. Don't know how much the accessories you want go for.

I do actually mind the lack of space, finding myself wishing I'd gone for the 16GB model :( But if navigation software is a main thing of what you'll be using it for then Android might be better for you, as Google Maps has voice navigation which the Maps app on the Pre doesn't, as far as I could see. Still, I have high hopes of the Dalvik port eventually being finished and letting us use Android apps on WebOS! ;)

You forgot to claim £30 quidco cashback. Makes the deal £78. I went for 600 minutes, and its cost me £93 all in!

anyone else who went for the mobiles.co.uk 12 month deal just have a whole load of accesories delivered?

Yeh, I phoned up after I got a mysterious tracking number texted to me. Turns out its something they sent out free to everyone because of the delay.
