****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

Well i originally had an Iphone 4 at release date but had to sell it before going on my travels around Australia. Whilst over there i fell in love with the S2s screen and rather than spending the same amount of money on an iphone i figured id give the samsung a try. I got back last week after using a Nokia E71 for 6 months so it MUST be better than that :D

I took the ipod touch with me and its just so full of games and music that i figure id keep it as a dedicated music/games player as i hear the S2 isn't the greatest for music. Plus i could never quick fully let apple go! ;)

What has really irritated me is that despite the Mali 400 being a powerful chip. For me it is less useable that the Touchpad GPU.

My reason for saying this is that on the Touchpad (which I think is essentially a Sensation) you can watch Flash videos with no problem at all. On the S2, I keep getting "this video is not optimised for mobile" followed by an unwatcheable video. Why can the Touchpad (and I assume the Sensation) watch these videos with a weaker GPU than the S2?

Its not really problems, its what ive been use to.

On the iPhone I had Lockinfo which displayed all logs/calls/emails/texts on the lockscreen which I could view, dismiss or reply to without unlocking the phone. It was really handy to glance at and simple to use. I miss that and so far unable to get that experience on the SG2.

Inputting text on the SG2 seems harder. On the iPhone it was clear and simple. Too much stuff going on with the SG2 keyboard I feel. NO double space for "." and no auto correction (without swipe auto creation mode).

Miss SBSettings. The SG2 does have some widgets where you can swipe down and turn things on and off but not as many as SBSettings.

I really wanted to cross over from iOS to android but its not easy after using iOS for many years and having to get all the apps again.

The phone is brilliant though! No issues with that!!

This is Android, there are many different keyboards available, i just use the default samsung one but there are a lot better ones this i'm sure someone will come along and reccommend. Or you could give the Sype keyboard ago which is preinstalled, i don't get on with it but lots swear by it.

To uninstall system apps like that yahoo thingy ma jig you need an app like Titanium Backup.

There is ways to display the information on the lockscreen but it takes a third party app like Widget Locker.

I guess this a Hi-Def .flv file? As every low quality file that i downloaded from youtube or break or whatever run fine in the stock player.

The stock music player is a bit basic download Poweramp as it's 10x better.

The easiest place to reproduce results are on pr0n sites. Most videos work nowadays but occasionally you get a link to a random comedy website and the video stutters like a mofo it just really irks that this best in class chip can't handle it but a sensation can

youtube is normally fine. It is the random weird sites that have odd players that have problem. When I find a link I will post. They seem to becoming less of a problem every now and again I hit one.

Morning guys, this thread is pretty damn big!

Is there a 'what you need to know about SGSII ROMS' guide anywhere?

Does each ROM come with it's own set of problems? (Including the default one?)

You only need to get a custom ROM if you have specific needs, like I wanted to overclock and enable PS3 controller bluetooth connections to play PSX/N64 games.

Generally the stock ROM is great, one of the best OEM ROM's out there.
