My main problem with Android is the lack of coherent strategy. It feels all over the place, various manufactures thinking they're software developers by sticking silly skins on top of their devices, adding other app stores and no centralised update system.

That is one problem, the other big problem, for me, is the Android market. It is dreadful in comparison to the iOS app store, DREADFUL. Developers can't make anywhere near the amount of money as they can on the iOS app store, and thus many big name developers prioritise the iOS platform because of that.

The lack of proper curation on Android market is not a good thing, with various reports about malicious applications and the general lack of quality or consistent approach to app development is terribly painful when you come from the iOS app store.

Android itself, is mostly fine for me, Its the stuff that 3rd parties do to it and Google's management of Android market.

Also, another thing, which I always find hilarious is this snobbery about things being easier and nicer to use. People wanting to protect their geek cred by purposely using stuff that is harder to use. It's weird. Very weird.

Absolutely spot on.

Chances of the new IP having a LED light? I hope it does. I'd much prefer my phone to just have little light flashing to notify me of a message / email / whatsapp etc. Don't like how the whole phone lights up with the big box and the name of the person (I know you can remove the name being displayed). I much prefer it to be more discreet.

Yes, a notification LED is a possibility. Apple filed patents for something relating to it not all that long ago so it's certainly something they are thinking about.

I hope it has one, not having one is a huge oversight on a phone.

Can I ask why?

I'm out and about all the time and most of the time I leave my phone lying around on a table and I don't like random people or even friends being able to look over at my phone and see who's just text me. Also with whatsapp the name, group name, what they've said all comes up.

BB deal with this a lot better. A simple red flashing indicator at the top notifies you that you have something on your phone which needs attention. For me that's what I'd like to see on the next iPhone.

IP5 - 499 on release. Sell it in a years time in good condition and you'll get 300-350 pretty much guaranteed.

SGS 2 - in a years time will be be worth? Certainly not anywhere near as much.

Apple products hold there value very well.

I have an 3GS 16GB, it's a two year old model and they are still selling on ebay for 200 + pound, easily.

The main reason Apple products hold there value is they are the only company making the phones simple as, Android has lots of manufactures making phones so it stands to reason they will lose value faster, but they will always be cheaper then the Iphones to buy.

On the subject of LED notifications.

iOS5 has the support, and it works - but obviously the only LED is the back one on the camera, so it isn't performing the job described in this thread. Instead, it is useful if you have your phone faced down and it is on silent, it'll flash to let you know.

Samsung planning to stop the sale of the iPhone 5 once its announced by refusing Apple access to patents they have no legal right to stop Apple from paying to use.

Last desperate act from the Koreans ?

Hopefully nothing will come of it. Though, to paraphrase my Android brethren -

"Wow, Samsung are retarded, don't you just hate them."

"Oh my word, Samsung are clearly scared because they can't touch Apple with a bargepole at the top end of the smartphone market."

"Damn, those Samsung guys are just SO anti-competitive, I hope they go bust!"

And repeat. :p

In another attempt to annoy the pants out of Apple, Samsung has revealed part of the iPhone 5 spec before Apple's even announced it..

iPhone 5 sports an LG Display-made screen, LG Innotek’s eight-megapixel camera, Samsung-made NAND flash and A5 chip and an NFC chip for wireless payment.

Bolded part is another patent Samsung are trying to stop Apple using.

Thought it was known anyway after some South Korean carrier advertised cases for the NFC verion? Think there's an article on 9to5mac.

"For as long as Apple does not drop mobile telecommunications functions, it would be impossible for it to sell its i-branded products without using our patents."

Its official Samsung own the entire mobile telecommunications industry, everyone else give up now please.

Come on Apple hurry up and release this thing. I have money waiting for the device !!!
