I think you would be wrong on the 99% look on this forum and you will find that most want and use the features .

Bung your SuperHub in modem mode and pair it up with a decent third-party router. Sorted :)

I don't see why I should pay out £80-£100 for another router when the one I have(sh) will do the job well if VM would leave it as it was pre R26.

I have tried my wireless and it's crap...I,m going to ask for R26 back.
 
I've just had the 50mb installed today, but im pritty sure it's dropped connection 3 times now at least since it's been fitted at 1pm.

is this dropping down to the superhub? it's running the R30, Don't really want to have to use a different router, load of crap if you have to just to sort out this problem

yeah i realise that, but afaik its the wireless side causing all the issues? i've had my wireless switched off for a month now, using my wrt54g for wireless instead, and i've not had a single lockup in that time. It just seems to me that people are crying out for modem mode thinking that will aloow us to use another router when we've been able to do that all along ?

You could do that with old firmware...

The difference, I believe, is that the modem mode actually switches off the wireless and routing functions completely.

The key point is, you could disable wireless on the old firmwares... but the drivers for the wireless adapters would still be running & memory leaks from these are apparently what has been causing the majority of lockups.

Modem mode actually disables the drivers from running at all... or at least, that's what I've been led to believe.

VM are sending me out a new Sh as since R30 it locks up :(
If any of you want to see if yours do then go into remote management and turn on Allow remote click apply then refresh your browser to see if the SH locks up.

This only happend after R30 :mad:
 
Finally R30 is here, I was about to call up and beg them to use my old modem. Just need the 655 to arrive.

What firmware are people running on their 655? Standard or something else?
 
I've just done some wireless tests this morning on my new 50mb connection ( running R30 ) and using my samsung galaxy s2 off it using speednet app, it's only doing 16mb? this is right next to the router
same with my PS3 ( PS3 downstairs but showing 100% strength )

This is with 802.11 mode: to 300 Mbps, it's the same if it's set to 145mbs.


This is using 2.4ghz, again 5ghz is the same



anyone know what makes it so crap?

The response is always the same - I've checked your stats and there is no issue - several days go by - there is an issue and here is your ticket number or whatever - your estimated date is this / or your problem is part of some wider stuffup and we don't have a fix date yet.

I'm so worried that even if they fix my jitter my line will go to crap and I will be stuck with their rubbish service for up to 18 months.

I think I'm going to pull the plug on this experiment and go back to bethere.

Well guys, I had my Virgin 50Mb disconnected yesterday. A nice experiment, nothing wrong with the bandwidth but if you want to game, make sure you test your latency because in my limited experience Virgin was not up to the task.

what firmware are you running on the s2? i found mine to be very flaky on transfer speeds using older firmwares. im on lite'ning 6.0 (kh3-based) and i've just tested my connection speed and got 26mb down / 5mb up from about 12 feet away. thats r30 firmware on the superhub, 5ghz wireless/300Mbps

R30 hit mine. Not affected me at all. Then I didn't really have a problem before on R26.

I was hoping the wireless signal range would be better but its about the same for me. Frustrating because another 10% or so boost would kill all the deadspots in my house.
 
Got 30Mb installed in my new flat. Could only test it for a few hours, but it seems pretty good.

Thing I noticed though. I was downloading the Windows 8 dev version, but whilst it hit 3.5MB/s or so, the speed kept going down to around 1MB/s. I forgot to turn off IP Flood Detection, would that have caused the speeds to fall?

Same when trying a torrent. Hit full speed for a bit, then dropped down and went up then down again. Does the connection need to "run in" like ADSL, or do I need to change some settings? It was over wireless, but I was sitting right next to the Superhub.

EDIT: Turning of IP Flood Detection seems to have stabilized the download speeds. Getting pretty solid 3.6MB/s on torrents.

How much are people paying to upgrade to 100mb? I currently have 50mb as part of our package which costs £110 and they said it will cost us £10 extra a month.

I pay £56 for M phone, L TV and 100mb.

Only cost £5/month to move up to 100mb.
