****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

Gingermod still but Modaco GR6 is due soon and there is a free online kitchen out so I willcheck that out tonight.

GPS seems much better now! I tested CoPilot this morning on my way to work and it picked up a GPS signal much quicker this time. :)

Gingermod looks interesting, Going to give that an install later today. Currently running kitchen rom with KH3infra kernel. Which isn't too bad really after using the kitchen rom app to install extras.

It learns your location to pick up the GPS signal quicker, I find it a pain travelling between Brum and London as it learns one location, then takes ages to pick it up again in the other location.

Yeah maybe 'awful' was a bit strong, thing is i am, what i'd describe as a very a heavy user of my phone, as in always calling, texting, emails etc, so for me battery life is my top priority. :)

lol, users fault, thats such a stupid comment. So its my fault that i am a heavy user, and i need my phone all the time, and i need it to have a good battery life? By your logic its sounds like your dad is using his iP4 wrong then....

Fact is the S2 drops about 5-10% overnight doing nothing, whilst the iP4 drops hardly any. thats just an example but you get the idea. I know you can freeze that and do this to improve the life, but seriously, why should i need to do that? Android is a battery drain, always has been IMO. Muy old Nexus One was the same, friends and family have Desire's, Wildfires, the original SGS etc, and their all the same. Everyone complains about the battery life....

As i said, its a great phone dont get me wrong, I like the screen and the fact it is so light, but its just not right for me. :)

Battery life on the SGSII is on pretty much on par with the IP4 - Simple as.

For you to say its awful in comparison, well

My dad was an example of how you can drain a battery fast by not turning off wifi and 3G data.

And my battery only dropped less than 5% overnight (10 hours) on a stock rom no freezing.

I'm talking real life day to day use.

You should know you have both ( as do I )

I know, having used both extensively there isn't a big difference, but if you put them to the sword the iPhone 4 will last longer, it's noticeable.

The only real difference is power draw from the screen, a small 3.5" one will always use less than a 4.3" and the LG IPS is very efficient too.

GSMarena video playback.
Samsung I9100 Galaxy S II – 8:05h
iPhone 4 - 9:40h

Both offer similar charge times for my usage. (1 day charge cycle = medium/heavy use or 2 days medium/light. Other phones like the Desire reduce it to 1 day = medium/light use, 2 days = spare battery time :p)

Oh and Samsung have just announced the 720p version in Korea!

stats show they have different strengths - very evenly matched I'd say. Add the Official 2000mah battery to the SGSII which adds 1mm in thickness...SGSII will then be utterly great.

Exactly, you would expect the iPhone battery life to be better (due to the screen size, etc), and it is.

Calling the Galaxy S II battery 'awful' is absolutely incorrect but there is a noticeable difference. I'd say many people here browse the web a lot (more so than phone calls :p) so the pretty huge difference there is going to make a clear impact.

By this reasoning you might as well say the HTC Sensation battery is pretty much the same as the Galaxy S II as both will last you a day, but I don't find that particularly reasonable as again, there is a clear difference between them.

Ive already said that saying the battery life was 'awful' was a bit strong, but from my experience its not as good as the iP4. Why should i turn off features that i use?

FWIW, i never turn off WiFi or 3G on either the SGSII or the iP4.

Anyway, i don't want to argue, just saying what i've noticed from my own usage of both phones. :)

I was looking at a SG2 instead of an iphone 5 then read something about banding on the screen, is this an issue that has been fixed? I may wait for the SG2 with the HD screen now though :)

Some people complain about it but I'm not exactly sure what it is, it's certainly never bothered me.

WIFI is never turned off on mine & it lasts easily a day if used in a medium fashion. If I keep 3G/H on all the time then battery life dies a lot quicker so I only turn that on when I need it when I am out & about.

Lets put it this way it is the screen on the SGSII that causes the most drain :)

This is driving me up the wall. when I get a text message my phone vibrates but no sound will alert me. During a call I can hear the message alert saying i got a message. But I hear no sound when my phone is idle...any got any ideas? been through the settings.
